Was Ethan already on the Island or on the plane?

I don't think I understand... who is still saying that he was on the plane?

Some people are saying he changed his name to get on the plane that's why he wasn't on the list. I personally think he was already on the island, and the story is leading us to believe that, but nothing would surprise me anymore...

I was just watching the Pilot episode again and I noticed there was an effort to have every one of the main characters appear in front of the camera during the first few minutes where Jack is running around helping people. BUT, Ethan is not shown nor is there any trace of him. Now, I know this doesn't prove much, but I just wonder if this wasn't done on purpose to prove Ethan was already on the Island?

I actually think maybe it was trying to throw us off and that he went by another name. I'm saying he was on the plane.

BTW, there were tons of people that weren't shown in the pilot (Scott, Steve, that hypochondriac guy), right?

The "obvious answer" is that Ethan is from the island. But in the Lost -iverse, the obvious isn't always, well... accurate (Shannon & Boone being just bro & sis, Locke's legs, which blew my mind but my spouse claims was "totally obvious"-- sheesh!)

Rose is so convinced there are other survivors on the island-- could he be one of them? But then why's he so creepy? Surviving a crash wouldn't make you want to do Dog-knows-what with a newborn...

why are we even discussing this? we all already know that ethan was on the island before the crash, and is one of the others. thats why his name wasn't on the list, thats why he beat up jack so easily and kidnapped both claire and charlie, and thats why it took like 7 people to take him down! Theres no question about it, he was one of the others, ALREADY ON THE ISLAND!

he wasnt on the census, and im sure the security for planes would be tight since 9/11!

but thinkning about this, since seeing the screen cap of the dharma logo on the side of the crashed plane, if dharma was intending the plane to land/crash on the island im sure he could have gotten on easily if they were in charge

but if he was in the same league as goodwin, who turned up 10 minutes after the crash which i believe he isnt, he wouldnt have been on the plane.

but i think for him to take the plane, its too high a risk, he seems to involved to almost die in the crash.
