The imdb spoiler was inaccurate when it sed that shannon would be infected by the sickness and would be turned into an Others. I dont think that she was an Other, she may have developed powers and could communicate with walt, but sayid may have also developed these powers by swapping bodily fluids with shannon.
Of course the connection could also be from vincent. But i vincent is not Evil and he is not an Other. But it would be very cool if the mastermind behind the island is the dog that is running around the island and mind-controlling the survivors, that would be cool, heh heh heh.
