This is the thread to post any problems you have found with the board so the mods can be aware of them.

First of Many: What happened to the scroll tool at the bottom of the page? I think it was called Quick Find or Forum Jump. Now we have to go through the Forum Home option at the top.

There's one at the bottom, too

Gosh, I just love this new forum, I don't think there is anything to complain about. I just feel like the environment has completely changed.

I really do like the new forum, but I do miss the drop down box that allowed me to jump to a different forum. Navigation is cumbersome without it. Is there anyway to put that back?

It's down for the time being to test how much "juice" it saves. Tonight is our first Lost eppy since NuBoard, so they're concerned that we don't crash.

The new board is even more addictive than the old board. And that's not necessarily a good thing.;)

Im not convinced by the new colour scheme, it doesnt blend in with anything else on my screen so my boss knows when im on it!!
Could it possibly change to either black or red and yellow??
It would make life easier

Clementine, I will mention the forum jump menu to Erik. I think we had one at some point, and I don't know what happened to it.

UKC, you can change the colors back to green if you go to the very bottom of your screen on the left.

I don't like that when I close Internet Explorer, every thing I had marked read is a new post again when I reopen it. When I'm at work, I have to close IE every once in a while. Is this just me? Because some people like hodge (if you read the help desk) are having problems that I don't have.

I do like that I don't have to pay 7 bucks and renew my EZsucksSupporter that is about to expire.

You are quite the cut-up, eh Bekka?

I have had the problem of trying to get to the forum, and I would get a message that read "No data found on the page Losttv-fourm.com". It was my home computer (at work now), but eventually came up after about 30 minutes. I am guessing that it might just be my computer.

I'm guessing it might be a misspelled URL. :p

Have you tried it again recently? The default for the site was to not allow animated avatars but they have turned on that option recently.

Oh thank you Spidey, I'll check it out.

Here's my replacement complaint: For a couple days, we were able to see how many people were viewing the various forums in real time. I really liked it, it was sort of fascinating. I'd be like "Wow, look how many people are in shippers right now, or in Guys where are we?"

Bekka

SHBL, the feature is turned off for Lost day in case of server overload. It should be back sometime; perhaps tomorrow or late tonight.

Yeah, I liked that also. It was fun to see only one person in shippers most of the time. That message at the bottom where it would say what day and time had the most users is missing also. They are slowly deleting all the bells and whistles.

"They" aren't doing anything. A technician hired to perform the service is running various experiements and tests in order to determine how the site will best be able to run. Once he has evaluated the effect on the board of a full load of the character typically experienced on an episode night he will make recommendations based upon his observations and expertise. The idea is to try to get this new site as stable as possible so that problems will be minimized, both now and in its future.

OK by you?

(I also like the features which have been disabled, and look forward to their return)

I'm sorry. I apparently misconstrued the broad-brushed "they are eliminating the bells and whistles" statement as suggesting either some sort of conspiracy to deprive you and others similarly situated of your enjoyment or a disregard for the concerns of others. Apparently I somehow missed you were just funnin'.

So, let's try it again.

Oh, Spidey. You're such a card.

Feel better?

Neill does like to complain.

Probably the best way to look at it is we're trying to understand all the technical details of running a large site on our own server. Fortunately we have some great support guys working with us. Keep commenting here and bear with us while we work toward a finished product.

Gee...I guess I really have nothing to complain over. I love the new site, and I've just put anything odd up to starting up pains. I like knowing who is on line - but I didn't even notice it gone, until someone mentioned it.
If anything, I guess maybe I would like to have the option, when posting, to either stay within thread or go back to the forum.
(oh, and maybe a few more smilies....but I love the little guys, and feel you can never have enough)
Other than that - this place is wonderful.

Do we know about when we'll get the bells and whistles back?

ponderingthings
11-19-05, 04:49 PM
An observation:

I always use the New Posts feature - which is considered a "search" function". I think its terrific.

Today I clicked on the New Posts link, quickly scanned the thread headlines, and then immediately went to do an actual "seach" for something and I got an error message - "You must wait at least 60 seconds between searches"...

Its not a big deal. I just surfed another window that I had open while the count down was on... but I don't get it. If you want people to look things up before they post why put a time limit between searches???????

ponderingthings
11-19-05, 04:59 PM
Okay... just came across another one. This thread was on my "new" posts list. I responded to it *above* then it disappeared from my list when I clicked "new Posts" again. I checked the time stamps and it is indeed missing...

why? Other threads don't "disappear" after I respond to them....

I selected the option so that whenever I got a new PM it would show up in a pop up window, this no longer apears to be working?

But otherwise best board ever. . .

LostInWilderness
11-19-05, 05:23 PM
I think the popup notifier was turned off for performance reasons. Search is very resource intensive as well, thus the time limit. I don't understand what the new post/disappearing post issue was. We'll be on a new server before the next episode, and you can expect the bells and whistles to begin to come back after that as our webmasters fine tune our performance versus features.

Once mystjade posted on this thread - the thread returned in the "new posts" listing (after I clicked on new post to refresh the list). So it seems its hidden if I'm the last poster? Odd, this didn't happen before... but then if you are turning things on and off maybe its just an "expectation vs result" occurance?

I'm just reporting anomolies, as requested - not necessairly complaining. Maybe I'll wait until next week to report anything as you'll probably have the kinks worked out by then :)

I too love the new board by the way! :celebrate

I really love the new site, and realise that the minor kinks will be worked out, along with the fact that this is certainly normal for such a huge site.
I personaly think the color sceme is easy on the eyes and purdy.

Thanks to all involved with this. (props to you all) :celebrate

Pondering, I think that your problem may not be with the boerd but rather with your control panel option's. I went to another Vbulliten site, and they would only show me threads created in the last day. It was there defult setting. I went into the CP, and changed that. Hopefully that will help

As far as I know, if you're the last poster, it doesn't show up as a "new post." I think. I'm honestly not sure anymore if I'm understanding your question correctly. Hehe.

ponderingthings
11-20-05, 01:44 PM
Thanks Mystjade but the missing posts in the "new post" list is a thing of the past. They are now showing up as before, and as expected. I didn't do a thing.

I think its because the people who are operating this board are flipping a bunch of switches - turning things off and on, and sometimes we are expecting certain things which don't happen when that option has been disconnected/disabled.

I'm going to wait till next week to report any more observations. Hopefully by then the board techies will have the majority of switches flipped and these inconsistencies will be nonexistent! These are minor things and the board techies just need more time.

Thanks for your efforts board techies! - I of course image you all in a hatch bent over the computer inputting number sequences.... maybe you should try the "magic" numbers and all should become perfect! :D

Master Xander yesterday, if I was the last poster on a thread it would not show up - but would reappear if a new person posted (someone other than me).

Today its back to the way it was before - it shows up whether its me, or another person posting a message.

The above refers to the list generated by the "New Posts" search feature.
