One of the writers posted at The Fuselage that he was waiting for Kate's answer!!

I voted for hots for Kate, it's really obvious. That's so funny, that made me laugh. That would be funny if he had the hots for Sayid though. Can you imagine that? erm... nevermind. Hell, he's an optimist!:lol
He's made it clear from the beginning he does not want to be on that island. I would have thought his choice was obvious and not because of anyone else. Now had they all decided to up and take off to the caves, he might have thought twice about staying.

I agree Cristina. However, I actually think he might consider staying on the beach if no one else did.

From one of the writers, posted at thefuselage.com:
jenn - i think that a lot of people in the camp look up to kate, though maybe not in the same way as they do jack... and sawyer probably thinks of her as someone savvy and in the know - and he may just kind of dig her - so yes, her choice was going to affect his...
Oooh, look, I got "in too deep" in a Sawyer thread.
Okay I haven't really checked out thefuselage yet but I do plan to. Are all responses on there from the writers? Seems alot of time wasted answering questions online then. Not sure I buy it.
I'm such a sceptic. hehe

Cristina, I'm with you on the skepticism - not likely the writers would answer too many questions when mystery is what they are selling.
Then again, it *could* happen... can't rule anything out (except purgatory theories, of course)

They don't answer a lot of questions, just some. And they do talk about other stuff and make lost of sarcastic comments. The board is like "the bronze" where Buffy writers posted for several years, and I guess Fury got the Lost writers hooked on the fuselage.

He stayed because he's a desperate pessimist but is afraid to abandon all hope.

I really think he has the hots for Kate. And from the preview for next week...seems they have a bit of kissing action...*one can only hope*;)

i THINK HE DID IT FOR KATE AND BECAUSE HE DOES NOT WANT TO BE IN THE JUNGLE. BUT MAINLY BECAUSE HE IS VERY ATTRACTED TO HER.

I can't decide on "He has the hots for Kate" or "Hell, he's an optimist." I think it's both. He DEFINITALY has the hots for Kate. And can you imagine where he would have to hide all his stash if he moved to the caves. In that tent, he has a mansion of collected and horded things.

I didn't see last night's episode (GAAAAAAAAH! Damn family visits....), so I don't really know what went on there, but if I had to guess, I would say Sawyer is either
a) afraid
or
b) aligning himself
He seems to be the type of person that, when afraid, or sad, or angry, or in fact in any emotion, would lash out at people. He seems a little skeptical of the jungle...but then again he does tromp through it without any worry in The Moth. (kinda reminds me of Locke there, actually)
But what if he is aligning himself? He strikes me as the ant, if you will. He sees in the near future a definite power struggle (probably something he realized while reading Watership Down), and he sees that both the Beach and the Caves have able leaders.
But who would win in a struggle? The Doc or Captain Falafel? His obvious hostility to Sayid I think shows an underlying grudgin respect, and a gradual realization that they are very alike, and yet polar opposites. After what I heard happened last night, I think that Sawyer's decision has been firmly implanted: not only is Sayid a like-minded individual (Sawyer probably would've ended up torturing Sayid if he was in the same situation), but he has the cajones to step up when he believes in something, as well as the stomach to shove bamboo up a man's fingernails. Jack only threw a punch.
In Sayid Sawyer saw a valuable ally. The fact that Kate went with him only sweetened an already enticing deal.

Whooop! I was right...:lol
The cave group is led by Jack, and Sawyer would never follow in Jack's footsteps; he resents everything about Jack. At this point, the only thing that would get Sawyer to move to the caves is if someone told him he wasn't allowed.
I get the feeling, though, that the dynamic between Jack and Sawyer is going to change- Sawyer is going to do something that will make Jack re-evaluate his opinion of Sawyer, and give him respect.
Jack has already disappointed Sawyer. Sawyer doesn't believe anyone could be as good as Jack seemed to be, and when Jack participated in Sawyer's torture, Sawyer's belief was re-enforced. But that very flaw may be enough to allow Sawyer to begin to like Jack- he can see now that if Jack is capable of evil, can make mistakes, then maybe he himself is not as bad as he thought. If one can be good without being perfect, maybe Sawyer can forgive himself.

I don't know...Sawyer is the kind of guy who likes to suprise folks. I think he would move to the caves just to get a reaction out of Jack. He likes picking on Jack. :lol Trust me, I have a brother with that same impish, annoying sense of humor...

He's definitely got the hots for Kate. He even says so in the White Rabbit episode.

He DOES have the hots for Kate, but I also think a big part of it is that he did not want to be with Jack all the time.
