These guys who produce this show are so smart it's scary. They fill the weeks leading up to sweeps with rehash crap with back stories we've already seen and then when we're about to give up on the series they go wall to wall Ana-Lucia who is too cool for words. Now I'm totally hooked back in and I'm sure their sweeps ratings are off the charts. Too bad we have to go back to Kate next week. She's not my favortie.

I like Ana too. I still like Kate. But Ana is awesome. Poor Ana. Her backstorywas so sad.

Yeah, I thought they did pretty well also... too bad some people don't feel quite the same. Oh well.
And I have a feeling I will like Kate a whole lot more after this coming episode... I've always not been much a fan of her, since she seemed "too perfect." Let's hope for some flaws. :D

Yeah it looks like we're going to see some flaws. lol
I loved the part where she told Sayid she felt dead. I felt real sympathy. I felt bad about the shooting; about her guilt; etc.
Then they ruined the flashback entirely by showing her being a vigilante and murdering someone on the streets in cold blood. I went right back to hating/loathing her after I was starting to feel sympathy. I don't understand why they had her murder Jason. You can argue that he may have deserved it, but murder is always wrong no matter what the motive behind it is...
Why spend 75% of an episode trying to make us like her and then negate the entire thing by showing her put 6 or 7 holes in someone?

It's to show the complexity of her character. As you probably were also, I was shocked when she shot that guy 6 (?) times.
And yet, it really gave me insight into her emotional turmoil.

I don't think they're celebrating vigilante activity. They're just telling us the back story of one of the characters who happened to make a very bad mistake.

I figured out through the years that different people react to TV series in vastly different ways. Some people (like me) just like good stories with interesting characters and lots of twists. So we look forward to the writers changing pace and throwing us some curves. Others (the ones that hate MR right now) get very proprietary about the characters and the story line and don't like to see anything different. The writers can't possibly cater to that crowd or the series would become very static. But Anna haters will come around. I bet you three bumble gum cards and a trillion dollars in cash that by the end of the year Anna is the most popular character.
But I thought they were trying to soften us up to Ana. Make us feel bad for her, make us understand why she is the way she is. Then she goes and murders someone so now I feel just like I did before I watched the episode. I wanted my feelings for her to evolve not end up right back where they were before I started watching. I felt disappointed I guess, maybe I'll get over it...

They were definitely trying to get us to understand her. Make us feel bad for her? Eh... that's arguable, but I don't think so. I feel sorry for her, yes, but that doesn't justify her actions. That doesn't mean I hate her. On the contrary.

sorry I must object to the title of this thread. It is quite obvious that the reverse is true. She has destroyed the season.
The best she can do is salvage her appeal to the audience, which is possible for some softies, but really, come now her character is simply aweful.
All she does is add strife to the situation, there is enough already. The plot with the island is in some serious need of saving. Lets save the SHOW, not the damn character.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, but giving Ana Lucia all of the credit for what you believe to be a failing season? If you think the show has gone down the tubes, then surely there must be some other cause than a single character.
Yeah, the cause is JJ leaving and not being involved in production at all.
