There are a lot of threads about television and movies floating around out here so I motion to get a bit more specific.
What is everyones favorite actor or director? You know, movies you will always watch as long as you star is in it or directed it?
I would have to say my favorite actor of all-time has to be Gene Wilder. I have seen most of his films and just absolutely love his comedic style and delivery. My man Chris Farley comes in a close second because I could watch anythig that man is in and still laugh, but he wasn't the comedic genius that Wilder is.
My favorite director is tough. Lets eliminate one right off the bat with Kevin Smith. I love all his movies and think he is a brilliant writer but his resume isn't nearly extensive or diverse enough to warrant as a best or favorite. Next is Steven Spielberg. Most people consider him the best out there and its tough to argue. His films are brilliant, emotional and culture-gripping but I just can't call him my favorite. That distinction is given to Robert Zemeckis! That's right, I said it! He may not be the best but he is my favorite with films such as Used Cars, Romancing the Stone, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Back to the Future Trilogy, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, Contact, What Lies Beneath and Cast Away.

Favorite Actor is too tough for me to nail down.
But my favorite director, hands down, is JAMES CAMERON.
And if yal have heard about his NEW 3D technology, hold on to your shnit, cause I hear that a 3D release of Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope is slated for a 2007 release!!!
Not like the paper glasses, it's supposed to be like a visor that encompasses your peripheral vision also. Too cool.
Besides, Terminator and Aliens (and Titanic) were some of the fiercest flicks ever!!
Peace,

I have a couple favorite actor's: Jimmy Stewart is Phenomenal, in Vertigo, Rear window, It's a wonderful Life . . . the list goes on . . . Robert Redford's another one of my favorites, he was good in the natural, and great in Butch and Sundance, the Sting, Spy Game, The last castle, Three day's of the Condor. . . As for contemporary actor's a few would make the cut, Joaquin Phoenix, Matt Demon, Gerald Butler and Nathan Fillion. The last two are the least known, and the best actors. My favorite Actress is Frankie Potenta, even though she has only made a few movies, all of them are worthwhile. . . Particularly the Princess and the Warrior

Jimmy Stewart is just so incredible. He was definitely a wonderful actor and made you feel like you had known him forever.
My favorite director has to be Alfred Hitchcock. Suspense, without all of the gore. You can't really get that anymore.

male - Vincent Price
female - Sandra Bullock
Directors - Sam Raimi, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, many more
I'm fickle, so this changes from time to time, but right now:
Fave Actor = Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Fave Director = Quentin Tarantino.
Lynch is pretty much tied with QT, and I have to mention Anderson (Wes), Stone, Kubrick, Coppola, Van Sant, Aronofsky (although his body of work is minute, it's freaking brilliant), and of course--Peter Jackson, since he directed the best 3 movies of all time.

My Favorite Actor is Johnny Depp I love everything he does, all his characters are off-beat and weird, and he is so good at his craft. Second favorite is Mel Gibson he had me with Braveheart!!
My favorite Dirctor would have to be Peter Jackson, but a close second is Q. Terentino.

I want Clint Eastwood to do a Spaghetti Western in homage to Sergio Leone. I think he's the only director who could pull it off. He has the minimalist style; he knows the genre; it would be a blockbuster. Clint could find some statuesque unknown actor to play the man with no name, go back to Spain, and make an instant classic. I hope he does it soon or the genre may be lost forever.

This is hard to narrow down to just one actor of director. My mind and mood changes often, but at the moment heres what I'll say:
Actor -
Johnny Depp - with films like Edward Scissor Hands, Secret Window, Finding Neverland, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, From Hell, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Blow, Cry Baby, Ed Wood, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, Benny and Joon, and Chocolat.
Fantastic!
Director -
Tim Burton - Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish, Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood, James and the Giant Peach, etc. I love his creepy watercolor type visual feel.......amazing.
Runner-Up Category -
Director
- Stanley Kubrick A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Lolita, Dr.Strangelove (or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb), etc etc.

So, we only get to pick one from each category - right ? Very difficult to narrow down - but, what the heck - here I go...
William H. Macy - actor
Coen brothers (Joel / Ethan) - director
Heaven = when they all work together on the same movie !

Director - FOr me it has to be Kevin Smith. Crandyman has already pointed out his short resume, but his first five films are all flicks that I can watch over and over again (Trying to forget Jersey Girl). I just think his writing is top notch, and he has some great character development.
Actor- I'm going to have to second Riders on Ed Norton. I have yet to see a poor performance out of him. His performance in American History X is amazing.
Actor-The Rock
Director - Ridley Scott
