Jin came out of their tent all happy and content. Then Sun came out and they hugged. Hurley gave a thumbs up. Jack was in with Sawyer and Sawyer said "Where is she?" Jack said, "Kate? Prediction #1: By using the computer to communicate with Walt, Michael's probably brought about an "Incident", which I'm going to assume, based on the previews for the next episode, involves the monster running amok (it appears to go after Eko.)
Prediction #2: The Others, or the Dharma Initiative folks, are watching the activities as they unfold in The Swan. Why else have "Walt" communicate with Michael just as the respliced video is put together? Seems to me like it's all being staged -- the coinciding events are happening to 'test' the reactions and responses of the castaways.

Did it really say that we had to wait six weeks? When did it say that?
That was just creepy when the computer all of a sudden said Hello. I wonder if maybe Walt is either actually typing, if he's doing it telepathically, or if it's the Others trying to trick them. Anythings possible now.
WOOHOO KATE AND JACK FINALLY KISSED!!! About damn time.

I think some versions of the Bible say the verse that way. Different translations like to phrase things differently. I'm not sure about Eko's phrasing, but I know at least one version says "dark valley of death".

12-01-05, 02:27 AM
Some general thoughts:
Eko's story of Josiah... it's covered in "the numbers". Josiah was 8 when he took the throne...and he was 16 when he performed the actions that Eko described. Want a bible verse? 2 Kings 23:4 - 23:8... gotta love that. I also loved the double meaning behind Eko telling Locke he'll find something important in the bible, other than the film strip. One of my favorite lines was Eko telling Locke not to confuse coincidence with fate. I'm going to love them playing off of each other.
In the trailer for the next episode, Eko's reciting the 23rd pslam. Read it in full... it reads like a mantra for those on the island, specifically Eko. It's all about God protecting those in the darkest of hours.
I also loved that out of two lines Sawyer had... both were great. I loved his "Son of a bitch!" reaction to still being on the island.
Anyone else think that, if it is Walt on the other computer, he's doing this in secret. Like he knows about the computer... finds an open opportunity... and tries to signal for help. He just so happens to get Michael.
Mysterious Mike

I dunno, if I were these people on the island, I would be asking waaaayy more questions. I would want one of the tailaways to take me to the hatch that they found, just to check it out.
At least the security system seems to be up and running again, according to the previews.
I wonder why Locke didn't come running when the thing started to beep... I don't think it ever showed Locke telling/showing Michael how to do the numbers. I would think he would want to get and type in the numbers ASAP.

I'm not getting why Kate's dad thinks that if she knew who her real dad was she would automatically kill him. That seems like a big leap to me.
It jumped out at me, too, but not because I thought it was a leap. Like many instances with this show, I think it means there's something else we don't know.
Just when we think we suddenly understand Kate, her "father" tells her, "I KNEW YOU'D KILL HIM."

Eko probably knew about the herion because maybe in his native land (possibly Nigeria?:)) that's how they smuggled out the drugs. Just because he was flying from Sydney to LA doesn't mean he's from either of those places. POSSIBLY he was running drugs from Sydney to LA, and the crash made him religious.
I have a feeling that Eko and Locke will go head to head soon... They're courteous and respectful to each other, but I don't think either one particularly likes one another.
Ana-Lucia's line at the end about everybody hating her cracked me up.

HOLY CRAP. That was so good, I can't even put it into words.
The boards are really strugglin tonight, and I'm not surprised with all the craziness that happened tonight. So I'm glad I finally got this page loaded to type (gave me a few minutes to calm down after that FIERCENESS!!!!)
Here are my notes from this Ep., and believe me, they'll be alot more tomorrow (after I've read thru all 60+ pages of posts) with caps.
Here we go:
- no Eye shot to open, but no "previously on LOST" either
- Evie in a tree, what a surprise! :D
- The Black Horse: this was one of the angles they pulled out tonight that I absolutely LOVE. The first thing I thought was TWIN PEAKS. But then she touches the horse and Sawyer sees it too. There's their transportation across the Island. But there's SO much more to this horse, in that it was in Kate's FB as well as now being on the Island. Worthy of 6 weeks of yammering about for sure.
- I want a cap of the picture shown as Kate carries a drunken Wayne into the house. They enter the door, then are obscured by the angle from the other room. Here we see a bookshelf with a picture of a redheaded woman. I will post one tomorrow if no one else beats me to it.
- My brother pointed this out: Shannon was the one who got Sayid searched at the airport, and when it was all said and done for Shannon, she was in love with Sayid. What a drastic shift.
- The song that Kate put on in the Hatch...Patsy Kline? Anyone?
- So was Kate trippin, or was Sawyer "possessed" by Wayne? I think of Sawyer's obsession with the boar he thought to be stalking him in S1. I don't know what to think about this one.
- YAY!! The handcuff FINALLY comes off Jin!!!
- "I saw Walt" says SAyid to Kate. It's about TIME!!! Now that's out there, compiled with what happened at the end, but I'm not there yet.
- Eko's telling of the story of Josaih and the discovery of the Old Testament was so well acted, Adawale Akkinuoye-Agbaje should be handed over any Emmys he's up for, as NO ONE can compete with acting on TV like that!!!
- Locke's look is PRICELESS when he realizes what he's found in Eko's Bible.
- "So, Rose's husband is white. Didn't see that one coming" - what a great Hurley line!
- I think Kate is now "good" in the eyes of the Island (and in mine too, but I'll save that for last). She confesses to "Wayne" who she thinks is "possessing" Sawyer, and BAM, Sawyer is okay. Almost like the Island heard Kate's confession, and gave her Sawyer back for it.
- I heard someone yell right when Kate and Sawyer emerge from the Hatch door. It might have been very shortly after that, but I KNOW I heard it. Probably just someone offset (it WAS a 360 shot).
- The missing piece of film was very "dark". And that is SO not all that was missing. This adds strength to my theory that Desmond knows about some of the other Hatches, and has stashed pieces of the film there, and that's where he was running to - a THIRD Hatch we haven't seen yet.
- The whole thing with the computer and the update on Hanso site today....I was shaking I was freaking out so hard. This is where my brain exploded.
So in closing for this post, I'd like to formally apologize to KATE.
I'm so sorry for NOT TRUSTING you!!!
I thought you were in on the whole Island thing cause of some connection with your father. Looks like your life sucked.
I will NEVER say the phrase I've been saying since S1 ever again.
Now, I TRUST KATE!!!!
Whew. I'm still buggin out.
More for sure.

Did anyone else notice that in the new portion of the film... the doctor looks different. His hair is a bit different and all. It's subtle changes and all.
The reason I bring this up is because this whole film would have been shot together(Basic economics in television).
Kind of interesting if you ask me.

Way to go Sledgeweb for posting that screen cap asap. I didn't even catch Sayid on the TV. It looks like he is in handcuffs and is being led by American troops. Maybe we'll see why in one of his fb's.
I feel really bad for the US Marshal, he's always getting his ass kicked by Kate. He just never has it easy, always getting knocked unconcious and then dying a painful death.
Exactly what i thought.... Michael is violating the rule from the missing section of tape!! Do not use the computer to communicate with the outside. I dont know if it will awaken the monsters again, but something may come of it.

The best episode of season two has to be when Grimace (aka Ana-Lucia) went to fetch more dynamite and blew half her body off. Then she took the rest of the episode to die a painful death and afterwards, everyone had a feast of Grimace.
Oh wait, that hasn't happened yet. Spoiler alert!

Lots to mull over....
Ladybug, for starters, you could check spooky's transcripts if you follow the links to lost-tv.com. Otherwise, check the "missed an episode?" thread stickied here in General Discussions - you'll find help! And then, there's always amazon.com ;)
Loved the horse - which one was the hallucination? the one Kate sees when she's escaping the Marshall the first time around, or the one in the island?
Loved the Eko/Locke dynamic - and two perfect lines: "you really do mean the beginning" (I hope...didn't take notes, silly me!) and "do not mistake coincidence for fate"
Family dynamics: if Kate's biological mother and her legal father got divorced when Kate was 5, how come she's so close to him? It's gonna be great to be around for the discussions.

Man, I almost cried when Sayid was trying to do the funeral. Props to Jack for finishing it in a good way.
At least we are given more proof that what people see on the island is true, ie: Shannon and Sayid seeing Walt, both Kate and Sawyer seeing the horse... Maybe someone else could have seen Jacks dad as well.
That's so weird... polar bears, chickens, boars, horses. This island really creeps me out. So glad I'm not on that island... I wouldn't have made it four days.

It always amazes me that TPTB keep insisting that the show is totally character centric. But that the episodes that get the biggest responses involve two simple things, action and mystery. I'll toss in 'creepiness' as a third thing. I'll grant that the depth of the characters helps drive this, but a fast pace and a 'WTF' factor are going to beat out Sun having tea in Korea anytime.

I think it is a mixture of the character FB and the on-island drama that creates a mega episode like this one.
For instince:
My most favorite scene in the entire series was this season during the Locke-centric episode. When he's in the group therapy session:
"You want your $30 back? I want my damn kidney back!!!!!"
Such powerful, dramatic acting. That scene was soooooooo good and deserves an Oscar by itself.
It always amazes me that TPTB keep insisting that the show is totally character centric. But that the episodes that get the biggest responses involve two simple things, action and mystery. This episode rocked! It was incredible. Bam, bam, bam. My head was spinning from all the reveals and from new mysteries. I was fearful that the series was about to hit a blackhole, but this episode proves that its back from its "tailspin."
Yep, we're back to the original lostaways. Unlike the first three week episode break we had - before the one we'd all be talking about - this break is made less painful by an episode we'll all be talking about. And the opening scene with Jin and Sun and Hurley's thumbs up was an awesome opening. This episode proved that Lost can be character driven and mysterious simultaneously.
And who would of thunk that Truff would ever trust Kate again!:D

As far as the black horse and Kate-I immediately thought of it as a symbol of freedom or free spirit representing Kate. But when I searched online the symbolism for black horse has many meanings-some of which are:
"A black horse indicates impending death, destruction, Satan, and evil influences. Traitors, magicians, and the devil disguised as a knight ride black horses."
"The black horse in the book of Revelations relates to a necessary balance of the male and female qualities of the soul. Riding a black horse represents a need to control the energies of the body, usually sexual. The pale horse represents the thymus gland and represents the affections of love. Being halted by horses denotes a necessity to control and redirect the emotions. Falling off a horse shows rejection of some of the dream warnings. To follow a horses foottracks represents following Christ's footsteps. "

Great episode tonight! There was LOTS of stuff in there to keep us happy. Hurley's comment about Rose's husband, Jin freed of his cuff, Sawyer lives!, insight into what Kate did to freak her mom out, more shots of the hatch and the computer...
I agree that there are more parts of the film around the island. I bet some of them decide to explore to hunt for them.
What the heck was up with Kate kissing Jack? That was just bizarre. I have no idea what it "meant". Also why the HECK wouldnt she give mom the insurance info when she got the policy so she could get the hell out of town after she decided to blow up the house?? Her dad - so does he not know he is her real father? His comments to her didnt appear that way. But if he did know then he was one sick SOB.
Why on earth did Locke not tell Michael, "ok you can look at the hardware but dont touch". They already knew they werent supposed to use the compter for any other reason.

I really like Eko. He's very insightful and... just... he just seems to be a good person. Once again, here's the whole black and white reference. Locke and Eko... opposing forces, I think. Though I think that in this instance the black is good instead of the usual cliche. Locke is getting too into the hatch and that won't bode well, I think.

Hmm... If it was '02, it would coincide with the Iraqi war, which is why we might have seen American troops leading Sayid on the TV. That's what kind of gets me,we never are really told what year the FB's are in, we just have to guess. Maybe that would give too much away.

The comment about the blast doors must have some importance. Maybe the last "incident" was some kind of contamination or radioactive fall-out that made others sick -- except those in the hatch. Some died (the French woman's companions) -- and maybe some got stronger (The Others?). Just a thought...

Sayid was a veteran of the Gulf War(as it covered Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, in addition to Iraq). The current Iraqi conflict has mostly been referred to as the Iraqi War.

S2E9: “What Kate Did”
BIG QUESTIONS:
What is the INCIDENT? Was it an explosion, thus the need for blast doors?
Whose is the third cross? Ethan?
Why does Kate see Wayne in Sawyer?
Where did the black horse come from, both in Iowa and on the island?
Why was the Dharma #3 station film hidden in a Bible?
Why was Kate’s mom so afraid of her in the hospital?
MORE THAN COINCIDENCE?
The Marshall getting hurt in the car crash, Kate digging the handcuff keys out of his pocket, freeing herself, then running.
Kate making friends with the horse and connecting it to Wayne’s murder; Sawyer making friends with the boar and connecting it to the shrimp guy’s murder.
Black & White: stones in the cave, backgammon, Locke’s eyes in Claire’s dream, Rose & Bernard, Locke & Eko. Black Rock, black horse, black Bible.
SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF:
Charlie running into Kate in the jungle? This is one of many times when the islanders just happened to bump into each other as they’re out for a stroll...without even the distraction of the security system.
Kate has to pick mangoes because there’s not a scrap of food left for Sawyer in the hatch?
QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
What Kate did. Why she did it.
Are Kate and Jack ever going to kiss. Well. That wasn’t as intense as the Kate-Sawyer kiss. I didn’t see it coming, and the music certainly didn’t go along with the scene.
Hatch shifts: 2 people every 6 hours. I must have missed this before.
Sayid DID see Walt in the jungle.
MUST GOOGLE: Blast doors. Transference. And while I consider myself a good Bible student, I will still review my Old Testament and the story of Josiah.
LOCATIONS FOR THE LOST MAP:
Tallahassee--is this where Sam Austen was?
NUMBERS:
I know you heard them. Kate is 24 at the time of the murder; Her dad was in Korea 4 months before she was born. He left when she was 5.
CHARACTERS:
Jack: So was he hearing Sawyer or Wayne when Sawyer said “Where is she? I love her.”
Kate: Mom calls her Kathryn/Katherine; Dad calls her Katie. I wouldn’t have pegged her as a motorcyclist. Strange that she was a “straight arrow” until she torched the house.
Sawyer: Great to see him up and around! Maybe Claire can give him a haircut.
Sayid: Oh, Sayid, come on over here and let me offer you comfort in your time of need.:love2:
Locke: Odd that at first he thought the missing splices were nothing significant, then he is giddy with delight in speculating about the odds of finding the missing film.
Charlie: “Lord of the Flies” reference was funny.
Claire: Bonding with Aaron.
Sun: What was she doing when she was with Sawyer?
Jin: He looked mighty happy walking out of the tent. And I am SO GLAD he finally has the cuff off.
Shannon: Oh Shannon, I can’t believe I’m saying this but you will be missed. I’ll put up with you any day over AL.
Hurley: Ah. Mentioning the mental hospital.
Michael: THANK YOU Michael for being the voice of reason. He has asked AL several valid questions (like last week’s “ARE YOU CRAZY?”) and tonight he was as skeptical as I am when he asked Locke about the purpose of pushing buttons when all he heard on the film was something about electromagnets and an incident. GO MICHAEL!:worshippy
Walt: OK--he must be in ANOTHER Dharma station using ANOTHER Apple IIe computer!
Vincent: Wouldn’t he have tagged along with Michael to the hatch?
Ana: Still don’t like her.
Mr. Eko: AAA is such a formidable presence! Sheesh, he doesn’t even need any lines.
Bernard: So cool to see Bernard and Rose together!
Cindy: Is anyone bothering to look for Cindy?
Animals:
WOW, that was a truly magnificent horse! I hope we see it again.
Favorite Lines:
Locke to Michael re: computer “Just don’t break it.”
Hurley to Jack: “So Rose’s husband is white. Who saw that coming?” (Is he speaking for the LOST fans who swore Mr. Eko would be Bernard?)
Mr. Eko to Locke: “Don’t mistake coincidence for fate.” (possibly the most intelligent line spoken thus far this season)
Literary/pop references:
Kate’s Janis Joplin t-shirt
Charlie’s “Lord of the Flies” reference
country music LP in the hatch (Patsy Cline?)
Kleenex Moments:
Shannon’s funeral
Kate’s breakdown with Jack--I started to tear up, then she kissed him and I was so stunned I quit crying.
Seriously Creepy:
Shannon in her grave...the wrapped body was a little too much.
“DAD?” on the computer!!! I thought the response might be “Do you want to play a game?” (from the ‘80s computer movie “War Games”)
Music:
Opening scene--again, another beautiful variation of the “peaceful” LOST theme.
Shannon’s funeral scene-so poignant.
Summary:
Great episode! Some great twists and surprises. Lots to think about before E10!:scratchch

Yay for Sawyer and his "Son of a bitch!" line in this ep. It's beginnig to become his mantra. I always love his comic relief. Him and Hurley are goofy.
Haha one funny thing that my Mom said when Jin n Sun came out of the tent was "now that they're all reunited, everyone's gonna get pregnant." It would be a strange twist if one of the womenfolk do get pregnant.
OK... the blast doors... remember the other station that the tailies were at? Could that be an identical station, with the blast doors allready closed. That dharma station seemed to be just a corridor that lead nowhere.

I think Walt is "transmitting" from somewhere -- he's not literally "on-line". We know that he has some kind of telepathic powers -- he was reading about birds, and one flew into the window, and then he was reading the comic book with a polar bear, and one charged into their camp. He then appeared to Shannon, and later to Sayid as well. It's very likely then, that he is communicating in his "own special way".
BTW, I loved the fact that Sawyer awoke after Kate confessed to her father about why she killed him, and he left Sawyer's body in peace. I think Kate has become good in the eyes of the island -- and I think that's why she could approach and pet the horse (who represents her father somehow?). And maybe because Sawyer and she now recognize their special bond, Sawyer saw the horse as well -- just as Sayid saw Walt after professing his love for Shannon.
Other thoughts?

Guess I don't understand what you're tryin to say abut the Iraqi war... I know it's referred to the Iraqi War. It could be a possibility that although Sayid is no longer in the Republican Guard, maybe he did have a part in the Iraqi war.
  I'm soo LOST.
Now that I think about it...
I'm kind of confused too.
The Republican Guard was something that you just couldn't "leave" if you wanted - it was Saddam's top soldiers. He probably was in the Iraqi war and that's how he got caught or surrendered to the American forces... although the Iraqi War didn't start until the Spring of 2003.
The lack of stating the year blurs everything.
I am a newbie to Lost having seen last week and tonight's episodes. Can someone please direct me as to how I might see all the shows that I have missed so I might TRY to figure out what exactly is going on with all the different characters? I really would appreciate your kindness.
Thanks,
Ladybug :)

Blockbuster's carrying Season One and I bet they repeat most of the episodes this season during the next six weeks.
Also, try itunes downloads for 1.99/ episode-I fear some of the next 6 weeks will be filled with holiday specials and a few reruns. I loooooooved this episode and can't wait to see Eko's flashback and find out what the island gave/took from him that has made him so spiritual. Also, I think that Walt is not the one contacting Michael, but he will be drawn out into the jungle again(rifle in hand) to search for Walt.

Great episode...I'm soooo glad we are back to our original survivors...and Mr. Eko of course, he's my new favorite character on the show (sorry, Mr. Locke).
The "Michael and Dad?" on the computer ending was a complete shocker and a great cliffhanger! I didn't see that coming at all!
The one thing that is a little disappointing to me is the whole Kate backstory...I'm not sure I get it. So, she thought army guy Mr. Austen was her dad all these years....and that her mom has been married to and in love with an abusive drunk, Wayne/Wade (not sure which it was)...then she finds out that army guy Austen is not her real father, but in fact, drunken loser guy Wayne/Wade is her father...okay, that's a big disappointment to her I'm sure...but now that she knows he is really her biological father, does it make sense to kill him? And why does army dad Austen say that he knew she would kill drunken guy Wayne/Wade if she knew he was her "real" father? This whole story just doesn't fly with me....Yes, I can see her being mad about being lied to...and yes, I can see her being disappointed that this guy was her father instead of the good guy...but the whole killing him thing seems kind of out-of-whack to me....does anyone else think there must be more to this story???? Because if that was all there was to it...then the writing of Kate's backstory is sort of lame.
But, with that said, I still loved this episode so much more than most of them this season...so happy to have our survivors back on the air...and we only had to see Ana in like two scenes (personally even that was too much for me)...but since she admitted that "everyone hates her", I kind of liked that scene!

I agree Chinamom, I could have done without seeing the wrapped body of Shannon. When Jack threw the sand on her, I could have swore that I saw the body twitch, but maybe my screen just jumped due to the weather.
I liked it when Sayid said "I saw Walt in the jungle before Shannon was shot. Does that make me crazy?" He seems so much more stoic and docile now. Poor Sayid has loved and lost so much. *sigh*

Great, eppy!! What a way to end the last original episode before the New Year! I have been happy with all of them, but this one had me thinking, wow, THIS is why I love Lost so much!!
Well done! Thanks JJ!

Regarding Eko destroying the statuettes of the Virgin Mary:
Remember the story of Josiah, and how the people were adoring idols because the church was in ruins? and how the church was rebuilt through the book?
Catholics use what other Christians consider idols - statuettes, stamps, etc. Given Eko's religious bent, it wouldn't be out of the realm of the possible that he's destroying what he perceives as an idol in that same sense.
Regarding Michael's use of the computer: someone mentioned that maybe that will trigger the security system - which apparently has left our original group of survivors pretty much be as long as they stay at the beach... and (coincidence? methinks not) as long as there was someone inputting the numbers and not using the computer for anything else.
So back to AceofDiamonds's predictions: Michael's exchange with whomever (and no, I don't think it was Walt) could conceivably trigger an attack by the 'security system' (black smokey thingie) on the hatch and nearby territory, which in turn could trigger the blast doors or... who knows, really?
Loved this episode, even with the new questions it poses!

I thought Sayid was a veteran of the Gulf War (1990-1991). George H. W. Bush (father of the current president, George W. Bush) was president at that time. Does that mean Kate has been on the run for that many years? I find that hard to believe.
He isn't communicating with the outside, only between hatches!
of course the other hatch is the outside, anything outside their hatch is. According to the tape, the inhabitants should not know about other hatches. I think that this is significant, and part of the cliffhanger.
#1 is it walt?
#2 oops, micheal didnt get to see to the missing part of the tape, and violated an important rule, communicating with the "outside".

I agree, salem2005. Kate's story is far from over. And if it is, I agree that it was lame. I also want to know why she randomly blew up the house... There has to be more than Wayne just being a drunk and abusive man to her mom and a dissappointing real father. I think that (although she never said it, and told the US Marshal that he never touched her) maybe there was some sexual abuse.
It is weird that her real dad said "because I knew you would kill him." She must have been a violent child.

Sayid indeed was in the Gulf War, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't been in other wars/battles. Just cuz he hasn't said it doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Chinamom - I just LOVE responding to your posts after a new Ep!! Very well thought out and presented. A++.
Your "BIG Questions"; I couldn't have asked them better myself. I would like to post an idea into one of those, but I'm so bamboozled by all this.
The crosses is probably the only thing we can figure out, the rest -
Your "More Than Coincidence" thoughts; brilliant.
Sayid DID see Walt in the jungle.
And now that's out in the open as he's told Kate. So Sayid remembers, and Kate knows. With this CRAZY computer stuff, Mike is BOUND to find out eventually about this.
Jack: So was he hearing Sawyer or Wayne when Sawyer said “Where is she? I love her.”
This also lends itself to the "was Sawyer possessed (so to speak) by Wayne" notion. I like it. More mystery.
Walt: OK--he must be in ANOTHER Dharma station using ANOTHER Apple IIe computer!
Haha about the Apple IIe, but Walt being held in another Hatch (maybe the Radio Tower or Underwater station) sounds right on.
I feel that the concept of "Remote Viewing" is extremely important, and should be examined very closely with concerns to LOST.
Mr. Eko to Locke: “Don’t mistake coincidence for fate.” (possibly the most intelligent line spoken thus far this season)
This was in my original notes (that I must've skipped over as I was wigging out after the Ep.) also. Bery profound. Mr. Eko is #1!!!
“DAD?” on the computer!!!
As Mike sat down at the computer and saw the "hello", I was like, HOLY CRAP, this is what is on the HANSO Site, THIS was the Update!!
When he typed in the first few lines, I LOST it. Then before it happened, I said to my brother "If it says Walt, I'm gonna lose it". Then it said "Dad?".
And I LOST it.
What an amazing Episode.
(in Yoda voice): LOST I AM.

I think Wayne must have done something terrible that we'll learn about in a future episode. I think Kate is basically good and will only kill for a reason. After all, she was trying to take care of her Mom when she killed Wayne and blew up the house.
Did anyone think that the other recruiter behind her father looked like a young Jack?

12-01-05, 03:53 AM
Kate gives Sawyer a reason for her killing Wayne (when she thinks he's channeling...) Her reason is -paraphrasing from memory here- that she hated knowing that he (Wayne) would be in her, so that no matter whatever she did with her life, he (his blood, genes, whatever) would still be a part of her.
Personally, I think we are still missing rather important pieces of this puzzle. Remember the conversation Kate had with what's his name when they dig up the 'time capsule'? I need to go check it out, but there was something there about Kate running very young - way before she turned 24, if memory serves. Plus, if her biological father was coming on to her... well, let me just say eeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

So back in the discussion about 'The Other 48 Days' I posted this:
Re: S2 EPISODE 7 THREAD 16-NOV-05: The Other 48 Days
The first thing I saw when I looked at the screen caps of Mr. Eko's stick was the word "Lord" on the bottom line. Does anyone else see this?
I didn't post often on the previous board, and I don't really get too deep into all of the theorizing - but I LOVE this Eko character.
The first thing I thought of when seeing 'Lord' (if that's what it truly is) is from Psalm 23 where it says, "Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me," after it says "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Plus, there are lots of references to rods (not being nasty!) in the Bible. Moses had the rod that turned into the serpent, the rod struck the rock to bring forth water (life) while they were wandering in the wilderness for the 40 years, etc.
I don't know if this means anything...I just found it interesting.
In the preview, Eko is quoting Psalm 23 (albeit a little wacky - I didn't notice the transposed 'valley' and 'shadow'). For not being so deep into this show - I wonder if I'm on to something? And what? Anyway...
Do you think there is something to this? I love Eko - but I have a feeling he's not so "good." The way he looks at Locke - one of them has to be evil.

A nice shout out to the fans from People Mag who voted Jin one of the best bodies (or best looking?) people this year. Having him exit the Tent-o-love with no shirt on and freshly scrubbed up.... yummy:D
I was so happy when Sayid told Kate that he saw Walt. Of course in true Lost fashion... then he gets up and walks away. and she doesnt try to stop him, ask him wth, or tell him she is seeing ghosts horses and Sawyer has a new voice. God forbid people... dont discuss it!
I got the impression when Kate backed away from kissing Jackass, that she thought she was kissing someone else. It was like she glanced up, realized who it was and freaked out. (I would too ..bleck)
Yeah to Sawyer getting his humor back. His I thought you were pullin my leg (or whatever) line when they stepped outside was perfect.
Nice to see Jackass back to being a ''why are you daring to bother ME by talking to ME'' jerkoff when Hurley asked him about chopping wood. GOD I hate his tone when he talks down to people! JERK....
About the horse. Squeeeeeeeeeee to a horsey being on the island now!! I about freaked when I saw him. How magnificent. My thoughts..this horse showed up when Kate needed a deversion to escape the Marshal. Now he's on the island. I think he's going to be her guardian angel. I hope he is now part of the cast!
The reason Walt was suddenly able to write to Mike and him see it after Locke showed him that you cant type anything is IMO because Mike was behind the puter tinkering with it. I assumed he played with some wire that allowed them to send and receive messages. I'm crying foul to an artist/construction worker being the technical wiz to play with these wires. Doesn't Sayid have anything to do now but meander around the beaches sulking? Give him back his J O B!
I'd like it if anyone could give a real rough description as to what a blast door is, and what it does??? Describe it like Im your 4 year old kid.
Did anyone else catch when Jack left Kate to mind the hatch.. he made sure to tell her to make sure and hit the button?? I thought he didnt believe in the button?? H A!
I still dont trust Eko at all! Something creepy in his eyes. Like when he asked to watch the movie.. He gives me the heebies. I'm not so sure he's ever been on the island, but I think he knows what the Dharma corp is. I thought the new film was a bit lame. Still not telling us what this ''incident'' is.
Also during the scene with Locke/Eko at the table. Why didnt Locke show ANY surprise at hearing there is another hatch? No questions about it? No wanting to run there and explore? This is Locke people!! The one who lost his mind over this hatch. Something is so off about his charactor! I think he knows what Dharma is too!
Kate's parents suck! Her loser real Dad tries to feel her up.. her trailor park trash mother defends the guy and turns Kate in for saving her from abuse.. and her fake Army daddy tells her she's a loser who was born to kill! (Like you're not Army man??) What I'm not getting is the time line.. When did real Daddy come back? When did Army daddy leave them? I assumed it was when she was 5 but that doesnt fit in with Army daddy teaching her hunting and tracking.
In closing was I the only one who thought (and still isn't sure) that was Jack sitting in the recruiters office with the brushcut?
Oh and sorry if anything here was mentioned after page 21.. Its taking like 5 minutes to refresh these pages and we could be on page 34 by now for all I know. 21 is where I left off..

Kate does appear to be quite young in the flashbacks (at least, they try to make her look/act younger, considering it's the same actress), so yes, I do believe that if it is indeed SAyid on TV, then the flashback is since 1991.

Poor Kate her life was a mess with those parents. I'm glad that she let her out of her system and that Sawyer was the one who listened to her and that's why he woke up to be sarcastic and sexy Sawyer again.

As for the blast door, imagine you're in a laboratory working with high explosives or some type of dangerous chemicals. Imagine a safeguard installed to protect you from a reaction from the dangerous substance. If you ever watched Star Trek: TNG, the engineering set had "blast doors" that lowered any time there was a problem with the warp core. It is meant to seal off an area that is in risk of danger.

There's your new source of conflict and interaction - Eko's faith in God against Locke's faith in the island.
So...the island is Locke's idol. Sweet! And Eko will have to destroy it.
Like Josiah destroyed the idols in his time...as did numerous kings of Israel. Idolatry was/is always a big problem. Especially when Israel was split into the 10 Tribes of the North and Judah in the South. The North always had evil kings while the South always had godly kings. I really don't think TPTB are Biblical scholars...but who knows?

Yes, guardian-angel-horse came to mind for me as well. And some people said they saw the horse when Kate left the house on the motorcycle right before it blew up, is that correct? So I can understand an imaginary guardian angel/horse, but the fact that Sawyer saw him/it makes me try to think of other explanations. If it was part of Dharma's zoological experiment, how could it be the same horse from Kate's past. Soooo confused!

One more thing...
The army recruiting office has the "Go Army" materials. The "Go Army" campaign is very recent so it couldn't have been Gulf-War era.
I enjoyed the show, not my favorite - but i've been very pleased with the show this season - no sophmore slump here!
I do think that Kate has been on the run for years - looking at her other background stories, she's been on the run, got together with her old boyfriend (the plane guy) etc., I wouldn't think these events are close to each other, and covered over the last 3 years. So I think that 1991 may not be way off kilter.
I like Eko as well, he's intriguing! the story of the book was cool.
The black horse helping to free Kate from the Marshall (causing the car to wreck) was a interesting tie into the black horse on the island - that is why she felt she knew him - he 'saved' her before... maybe she feels like he saved her again on the island (from insanity, her ghosts..whatever).
The kiss with Jack was good, but I loved his line with AL - 'as long as don't try to convince me that women aren't insane' (or something like that).
I've started rewatching last season on DVD, and am loving it - I LOVE this series!!

LOL... I know. Even the Josiah story in the bible has several references to the numbers(Josiah was 8 when he took the throne... he was 16 when he did away with the idols... and the bible verses covering this are 2 Kings 23:4-8)

Truff, thank you for your kind words:) Your posts are equally thought-provoking! And I'm glad you're trusting Kate now!
Azteclady, I believe Kate also told Tom that night in the car (or maybe on that old tape?) "You know why I was always running" and of course that's never been revealed.
There are definitely missing pieces to Kate's story. The events in tonight's episode alone give us the challenge of constructing a better timeline for her, but there are still gaps and questions. After all, this is LOST!
BTW to the questions about the calendar...in the first issue of the LOST Official Magazine (published by TPTB) there is an article that states the crash happened in 2004.
Ok, why is Ana Lucia allowed to make weapons? She should be locked in a cage. I deffinetly would not give her alcohol. Bet she's a lowsey drunk.
In the preview, you can see locke standing behind Michael as he cocks the rifle, most likely they are doing some target practice.
As Ecko Quotes psalms, he is standing in front of a fire. Psalms 23 is often quoted or read at funerals. Wonder who's next?

I think someone asked about books. The blue one is 'After All These Years', the one with the maroon spine is 'Hindsights'. Haven't found a real copy of 'After All These Years' yet, but Hindsights was written in 93 and published in 94. Here is a comparison image (notice the same maroon color, same silver text, and same font and spacing):

This ep showed that they don't have to rely on twists. The only thing I didn't see coming was the horse, all three times, and I still loved it.
Awesome acting by Lilly - this was one of the hardest episodes to carry and her delivery was flawless. Jack, too. Emmy-worthy, all the way.
I even liked Dom tonight!
:worshippy Kudos to the writers and the actors!
Loved Kate's recruiter dad, another case of a small role making a big impact.
Wondering if he's the one who sent Kate the money? Only thing was the lettrer appeared to be written in a feminine hand.
Sawyer, Hurley and Locke were back to their original wonderful selfs; Sun & Jin have grown, and Ana L. was perfect. Only Sayid was off his stride, but then I never bought into the Sayid-Shannon chemistry.
Preview: I agree, the "shadow of the valley" was jarring, whether intended or a blooper.
I'm starting to think that smoke robot/monster is simply there to prevent communication. It first killed that pilot. When that happened, I immediately began to think that it did it because the pilot perhaps knew too much; a way to get off the island or something else.
I haven't seen all of Season 1, but did the monster even kill anyone else so far? Didn't Locke look it right in the face and it didn't do anything to him? This leads me to believe it doesn't just kill whatever it sees.
Maybe communicating is going to get it "angry" again. I don't know.
But then again I don't remember actually seeing it in the preview for the next new episode. It seems like a battle is to begin but who says who it will be against? Maybe it'll just be the normal group versus the Others.
All these hallucinations make me think it has something to do with the island. Sayid and Michael see Walt but maybe it's not actually Walt in his physical form. The fact that the island has something to do with electromagnetism makes me think weird things are happening to their head.

Such a good episode, after a long dry spell. It managed to nicely balance, the shows mytharc, with the current story's and the flashback's. I was pleasantly surprised given my aversion to Kate, and her past flashbacks.
They biblical theme, which has been mostly ignored in the last few episodes, is back, more prominent then ever. Black horse, the symbol of evil, Famine, and destruction (but not death in less a white horse is present - in the biblical context at least).
Honestly as the more flashback's or shown the fact that all the characters ( Jin, and to a certain extant Hurley, AL . . we don't know about a few other characters) appear to have crummy parent's to be the only strong connecting tie between are losties, passing each other in the hallway's, etc . . . Just seems to be a red haring if you ask me. Also there seems to be a deliberate parallel between Jack's dad, and Kate's step dad, both being alcoholic's.

I've read up until here. Just putting in a little bookmark so I can find my stopping point tomorrow.
For the last three pages, you all were typing faster than I could read.
I wondered if Eko was inferring that Locke was seeing the computer as an Idol (being a slave to it).
The ending was a terrific out-of-left-field closer. Thumbs up!
Someone, I forgot on which page, mentioned confusion over why Kate kissed Jack. My initial reaction is that she did it to shut him up. Kate has used her sexuality before to get what she wants (see the Shampoo move in 'Everybody Hates Hugo). I think he was asking questions she was far too uncomfortable to answer.

What I am wondering is if pressing the button, provides power to the other hatches? Then if they don't and lose power the blast doors seal the whole thing off.
