I feel bad for you....cravings suck.......don't give up giving up.

If you're anything like me you'll need to warn anyone within 100 meters that you may explode without warning at regular intervals. I once had an argument with a jar of coffee.

Keep us posted. And are you using any Nicotine replacement products?

Advice....

Avoid 'triggers' that you associate with cigs.
Tell everyone that you know that you are giving up.
Remember your own reasons for giving up in the first place.
Take it a day at a time.....even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step!

And if that lot works......you've got more will power than me.

GOOD LUCK, I HOPE YOU SUCCEED.

any advice?

I've never smoked but my parents both smoked liked freight trains all my life until my mom had a HUGE tumor removed this year. It was a big scare and thankfully non-cancerous. She hasn't smoked since but my dad still does. She makes him go outside. I'm not sure how that will work this winter.

My only advice is to remember it's for your health. And it stinks...it sticks to your clothes, your home, your car. It's really gross. Everytime I visit my parents I try to leave my coat in the car because the stink just gets absorbed into the fabric. UGH! And when my mom comes to visit here I have to wash all of her clean clothes because they reek. Even now that she has quit the smoke is still in the house and there is no escaping it. :soapbox: I think I'm done now.

Calypsie

Yeah, we didnt smoke in the house.

so..

Yeah.

Way To Go!!! I quit smoking about 4 years ago. It was sooooo hard. It was like the third time I gave it up. But it is the last. You just gotta want to do it for yourself. There comes a day though, when you wake up and you realize you have your life back and what a slave you were to a rotten industry. Keep up the good work.

Calypsie
11-30-05, 03:34 PM
but i enjoy it so much.

and I completely just blew my diet all to hell with the candy bar i got on my non-smoke break.

darnit.

You can always go back on a diet later. Quiting smoking now is the better of the two choices.

I have an idea, put the money you would have spent each day on cigarettes into a box, then at the end of the week or month, see how much money you have.

Are you quitting cold turkey or do you have help?

Calypsie
11-30-05, 06:05 PM
Woo! $14 every two weeks! (i rolled my own with filters and everything.)

cold turkey.

My ex-girlfriend used to smoke, I helped her quit by saying that I wont kiss her for 2 hours after a smoke, i couldnt stand it.

But, like many have said, its something that you WANT to do. If you dont WANT to, and you enjoy it alot, dont try to quit because you wont be able to. You have to WANT to quit. So if you DO want to, best of luck to you.

Your body organs will thank you later for it :)

My mom died last year from lung cancer. She smoked for over 50 years.. started when she was 13. She only stopped when she was in the hospital and couldn't leave her bed. I never smoked but living with two parents who smoked has done some damage. Watching our mom suffer for over a year before dying convinced my sister to stop smoking. I know the craving is terrible, but think of what your family will feel if smoking causes the ultimate consequence and they lose you in such a horrible way.

Good job... I remember how hard it was for me to quit, but it's been almost three years. The biggest thing that kept me going was ... chewing gum. lollipops. candy. biting my nails. anything that kept my mouth and hands busy.
And like Sage_elf said, When you wake up and you realize you have your life back and what a slave you were to a rotten industry... that's the best feeling in the world. Giving away your hard-earned money to some greedy corporation is the worst. The moral obligation to stop giving those jerks money was also a huge incentive for me.
Speaking of incentives, one big thing to do is -- every time you want to buy some cigarettes, put the five, six dollars (whatever it costs wherever you are) into a jar... when you feel really bummed, look in the jar -- you'll have so much money in there that having a cigarette will seem completely worthless.

First of all I want to say that is great! I have quit all 3 times I had my kids, but then started back up when I went back to work. But.......On Dec. 8th here in good ole Washington State we will no longer be allowed to smoke in or around (25 feet away from) public buldings. Everyone I know is going to quit. We've all decided that today is our last day to smoke so we can start fresh on Dec 1st. I work in a casino so it is going to be real hard! I hope I can be as strong! Hang in there!

I worked in a race track, it was so hard to stop when your in an atmosphere where everybody is doing it. I stopped this last time because my two children begged me to, as In their words, "we don't want you to die" Powerful stuff.

Avoid 'triggers' that you associate with cigs.
Tell everyone that you know that you are giving up

These two are key. I gets easier after awhile. Something important to do is remember when you have a bad day that cigarettes will NOT take away stress.

That's why we think it will be easier when Dec 8th rolls around. It won't be in our enviroment (casino) anymore. Until then we just have to grin and bear it at work. You are soooo right about the enviroment though. Like I said I quit when I had my girls, but the minute I went back to work I started smoking again because I was in the enviroment. It wasn't until I was there that I wanted a cigarette. BTW, I don't smoke at home either.

It's been seven years for yours truly!

Although I never smoked in front of my children, they knew I did. The smell and all. "Please daddy, stop!" I couldn't do it.

I remember watching the commercial where the lady smokes through a hole in her throat. While watching it, I unconsciously lit up! Now that's bad.

What got me to stop you ask? Purchasing some gas on a credit card, I forgotten I was out of cigarettes. So, I was going to pay for them with cash. "Oh, give me a pack of (I won't name my brand)." "That'll be $4.03." Never had another one to this day!*Knock on wood*

My childrens health didn't matter. My own health didn't matter. I'm just a cheap bastard when you get right down to it!

Never give up! Never give in!:crossfing

I guess the only advice I can give outside of what's already been said is...avoid coffee.

My fiancee and I had both quit about a month ago on Monday...my first real go at it. She used the patch and I was doing pretty well with the Nicorette gum. She picked up again after a couple of days, but I made it through the week. The only way I was able to do that was by drinking only one swallow of coffee in the morning (when I usally drink about 40-60 ounces a day). I drank a lot of water instead.

Like I said, I did fine until Saturday Morning, when I was bored at home. I foolishly made a full pot of coffee and proceeded to drink 2 cups. I just about went out of my mind until I lit up a cigarette. Stupid! :banghead: :ashamed: :banghead: :ashamed: :banghead:

Three days of physical withdrawal and you're in the clear. You'll stop wanting to gnaw the arm off. You need to resign to three really crummy days. It gets much better after that.

Okay guys, I cracked after work yesterday. But i'm back on track now,

I'm gonna do the patch, cause I can't do it alone. We all cracked after work. So, I bought everyone a treat, and told everyone we did good making it through work, and said that I'd do better today!

So.. Yeah.

Anyway....good luck...again.
