The Official “Picture People” Thread

Yep this is a thread dedicated to those mysterious people who so far (as far as we know) have only appeared in LOST in photographs and other still pictures.

The idea is to collate any info pertaining to these people, and to add any new pictures as they become available.

The first group of pics are from Tom Brennan’s fridge. Tom (played by Mackenzie Astin) was Kate’s flashback friend in Born to Run. He appears to be the man in the top photo with the baby. “His name’s Connor” “22 months next week” he tells Kate. Amongst the women in the other photos may be Tom’s partner Rachel.

The top picture in the second group is of a mug belonging to Detective Calderwood of the Australian police from Exodus Part I. The detective (played by Kevin E. West) tells Sawyer that he (Sawyer) broke the mug on a previous visit to the police station. We see a woman and boy pictured on the now-repaired mug. Sawyer comments “nice kids”.

Below this is a photo of Desmond and an unknown acquaintance from Orientation. When Desmond is packing up his gear, Jack stops for a moment to look at the picture. The “stepped” towers in the background have been identified as the Hawaii Prince Hotel (http://www.princeresortshawaii.com/HPH/) in Waikiki. Mystery solved? - although she is clearly a different actress, the acquaintance is probably meant to be Penny Widmore who appears in a similarly composed photo in Live Together, Die Alone - see post #74.

Have I missed any pics? Anyone have any further info/speculation relating to these ones?

Addition #1 left: Strips of photobooth photos (or copies thereof) lodged within a wedding planner found by one of the survivors amongst the plane wreckage. Claire explains to Jack in Walkabout that they’re “Steve and Kristen” (last names unknown) - two passengers who apparently died in the crash. “They were on the plane sitting a couple of rows behind me. I remember because they looked so happy”. Later at the memorial service she comments that “they were really in love and were going to be married. At least, wherever they are now, they're not alone”.

Addition #2 right: Framed photos on a mantelpiece in Anthony Cooper’s home (my thanks to clayseason1). Locke is looking at the photos when he first enters the house in Deus Ex Machina. The 1st features a person whitewater kayaking; in the 2nd Cooper is posing like a cowboy with guns drawn with an unidentified elderly man sitting nearby. The 3rd features a person scuba diving with a large starfish in the foreground; in the 4th Cooper is profiled in a hat (part of a photo featuring a mountain scene can also be seen to the left of the kayaking photo). Kiwipat, I personally think this is a good idea! At one time, we were keeping a list of appearances of toy planes and globes in episodes. So why not pics in scenes.

This is probably going to require a plea for people who watch episodes, to keep this thread in mine. Right at this moment, I can't think of any, but I'm sure I will as time goes on.

SH - I’m not sure if those pics qualify as they are probably just photos of Kate’s mother Diane (played by Beth Broderick), and either her real father Wayne or her step father Sam. I’m more interested in those ‘mystery’ people who may pop up in the various pics - people who may become important later in the series.

:confused: no no...in reference to the pics in post #5 the top one I suspect is Kate's mum. The other one is clearly a guy in a white short sleeve shirt and sunglasses perhaps working at a barbecue.

or......at a 2nd look maybe its a little boy (the sunglasses look too big & fake) on a piano! Interesting :scratchch

Unfortunately many have made the mistake of thinking this passport is Joanna’s. The passport is actually in the name of a “Barbara Miller” - which explains why some tend to confuse the names Joanna and Barbara.

Early in Born to Run Sawyer disturbs Kate as she burns the area around the “Barbara” passport photo. Nothing about Joanna is mentioned at this stage. Later in the Ep Sawyer takes a handful of IDs from Kate’s backpack, opens one and waves it around saying its “Joanna’s ID”. However we the audience never actually get to see inside the ID.

So there is actually no connection made between Joanna’s ID and the one that is burnt.
No My Oops :dunce:...I've looked at the ep again - you do see the inside of the "Joanna ID" briefly as Sawyer waves it about and I'm 99% sure its the "Barbara Miller" Passport with the distorted photo (as posted). I must have blinked yesterday and missed it!

The only mystery then is why Sawyer calls it the "Joanna ID" when the passport is clearly in the name of Barbara Miller :confused:

No he didn’t, and a comment not as silly as you might think - remember his strange "nice kids" quip in relation to the woman and boy on the detective's mug....

Sawyer has either had bad eyes for a while, or as you say Sara continually just makes up stuff on the fly (maybe because of his bad eyes? :rolleyes:).

When Sayid visits Nadia in her cell he says "We have two suspects in custody. Have a look at these photographs. All you need to do is nod. If you prove you are willing to cooperate, I think I can get them to free you".

This is strange because if you look (at least) at the photo on top its very hard to make out anything let alone a person to ID!

ETA: Yes I can see the person now! for better pics of the mysterious male suspect see post #32 (thanks CS).

Are you talking about the WKD photos featured in post #5 of this thread, or are there some others I should be aware of? If so some location details within the ep would be appreciated - I'd like to hunt them out...

On the subject of thread location, I'm kinda happy with it being here in the relatively quite backwaters where things are manageable. Rather than being a short term topic for general discussion, I think its more suited as a long term redshirt project.

Clay, its from Deus Ex Machina. Locke is looking at the photos when he enters Cooper's house for the first time (see post#1).

Nadia isn't strictly a "picture person" as we have seen her in the flesh - there's no mystery as to who is being depicted (unlike eg. the Cooper photo with the unidentified man in the corner). But I'm happy to see any "pictures of pictures of people" from Lost posted here, with reference &/or commentary attached.

Someone in the episode thread translated the Arabic. It was a word that sounds similar to Sayid and means "Help us"

Here's one from Outlaws - it was hanging in the bar where Sawyer met Christian. I saw it when the bartender first talks to Sawyer. The setting reminds me of the setting in Locke's dad's six shooter picture. It might be the same place taken from a different angle.

Last but not least - from Outlaws - Frank Duckett - now this picture may not be exactly what you are looking for and do we really need a pic of Frank? No - but I thought it was interesting because it caught the reflection of what was in the glass behind Frank (notice the geo dome?) - also I think there's the top of the head of the person that took the photo.

CS Regarding the Numbers ones, is the far right one a graduation photo of a young Carmen Reyes? Interestingly I compared what was on top of Hurley's TV in Numbers, and what was there in Everyone Hates Hugo (Hurley's TV lotto win flashback spans both eps). The same photos seem to be there, but the Christ pic has moved!

Hi kiwipat - No I don't think all the photos are there. The "priest" photo is missing. The girl's photo on the far left is now behind the lamp and the small bottle was moved. The scales figure is in a different place and quite possibly a different balance. The picture of Christ was moved (as you have pointed out) closer to the statue (to cover up for the missing priest picture?). I find this disturbing. I don't think it is a continuity error.
And yes, I would agree that the graduate is probably Hugo's mother.

I reread the transcripts from Collision, but she's only referred to as Captain. Was there a visible nameplate anywhere on her desk?

Your post on the Geronimo Jackson album caught my attention. I noted in another thread that the bad boy up front looks like Sawyer (or maybe Liam) and the guy standing in the background looks like Locke with a bad wig. I think the blonde is Kate and I don't know who the afro belongs to. Take a look..

Man of Science, Man of Faith, where Jack gives Sarah back the use of her legs. Also, where he meets Desmond for the first time. And Abandoned, where Sabrina, Shannon's step-mother is informed of Adam Rutherford's death in the hospital. We see Jack walk by. I'm wondering, in those two episodes, who else might we see?

Here are two caps of the photos inside Sawyer's and Cassidy's house in The Long Con. The first is of the photo that was next to the one of him and Cassidy. The second is of the photos on the cabinet that appeared behind Sawyer.

Does anyone look familiar? The photo in the middle of the three on the cabinet could be a picture of Sawyer and some unidentified woman perhaps?

I'll tell you something that bugs me - the rooster - it's just out of place with that decor. I also have a cap (can't post - at work now) of a framed rooster print from this room.
Other roosters in lost that I've noticed without looking for - Farmer Ray's kitchen in tabula rasa - Kate's mother's kitchen in "what kate did". There are probably others. Do you think the rooster has some kind of meaning?

Other roosters in lost that I've noticed without looking for - Farmer Ray's kitchen in tabula rasa - Kate's mother's kitchen in "what kate did". There are probably others. Do you think the rooster has some kind of meaning?I don't think it does CS! We're keeping track of so many things, I'm beginning to believe we maybe spinning our wheels. The ole red herring trick!

We got a total of like four toy planes, three globes, three amputees! I'm hoping TPTB have a stash of decor they're using throughout the series.

In Deus Ex Machina, we have a posting for the two pictures behind the guard at Locke's dad's house. There is another picture in the guardhouse that hasn't been posted here. Towards the end of the episode, Locke goes back to the house after the operation and isn't allowed past the gate. There is a picture on the inside of the wall that most directly faces the house (to the guard's right when he looks at a car).

I thought they looked very different while watching the show but comparing the pics it's like they (TPTB) weren't even trying to match the women up. One has on white and one has on black. :confused:

One more thing I would add...if the person in both pics is meant to be the same person - Penny Widmore - then I guess this foreshadows a previous relationship between Jack and Penny (given the way Jack was looking at the original pic). Who was Penny engaged to?....wasn't she there just before Jack and Desmond met in the stadium??

I don't think so. The bedside picture from par avion looks like a woman leaning against that tree. The picture from the "ice station" in the season 2 finale is that of a little girl.
