View Full Version : MC Gainey - the bearded boatman

Ok, I couldn't find a thread for this guy so thought I would start one up. What is the story with the boatman who snatched up Walt? Will we get to see him again anytime soon? Hopefully this season! The few moments that we were introduced to this character proved to be terrifying to a portion of our lostaways...the abduction of Walt, the destruction of the raft etc. Some have mentioned likenesses to the Degroot in the orientation video, others have speculated that he may be Kelvin. Anyone else have any thoughts on this character?
BTW-
I watched "Dukes of Hazard" this weekend and was surprised to see our bearded boatman (MC Gainey) as Roscoe P. Coltrane. As I go through his filmography I see that he has played a few other roles that I never realized were him...the truck driver in "Sideways" who comes home to his wife cheating on him with Thomas Hayden Church...Swamp Thing in "Con Air"...and many more. Looks like this guy has had quite a bit of work over the last 20 years or so.

Sorry, I've always known the captain as Captain Gorton... :p
And I think we'll learn more about him later on this season. At least, I hope we do!

Should another thread be started under Zeke? Or will this one be renamed?
He is NOT Degroot!!!!

How cool would it be if his name actually does turn out to be Gorton, that would be the best in-joke ever.

Well, considering TPTB read these boards Trev, that would truly be a shocker. Talk about throwing the fans a bone! We haven't had many, if any, since the "twinkies" comment by Hurley in S1.

I was hoping they would make his name Gordon de Groot, or we'd see him wearing a yellow slicker, or casually throwing a fish-stick in the micro-wave... ideas for bones for us.
BTW, do any other boards refer to him as Capt Gorton?

What about Captain Gorton aka Zeke aka McGainey saying that Ethan being a spy was an interesting theory. That was a nod this way, yes?
I am waiting for a CGZMcG vs Sawyer rematch. Sawyer was the only one there with team spirit. Jack was silly and Locke was---invisible? And as for Kate, her being captured was just plain wrong. She's tougher and smarter than that. Jack's the one who should have been gagged and crying like a baby. Yes, that's the ticket...

I think so absolutely boonian! Like I said, we haven't had many "bones" thrown our way but that "Interesting theory" line was great. That's the first thing I thought of when he (Gorton/Zeke) said that. :)

As far as I'm concerned, it's a nod to the online fans [dare I be conceited and say, it's a nod to this forum in particular?], but it's also fuel for truffula's There are "others" and then there are OTHERS (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10521) theory. The way CGZMcG(copyright boonian androphile) said it, it pretty much gave the impression that he didn't have a clue what Jack was talking about.

keithc1234, you may want to do a search for interviews of Damon Lindelof done by the owner of the forum, Suil Liath. They have all been posted here, as far back as early 2005.

They're located on the front page of the forum but I'll just link them here (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/index.php?page=interviews) to save time.
Once you read those, keithc, you'll realize that yes TPTB do read this board. :) Happy reading!

I best remember Mr. Friendly from Carlton Cuse's old show, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., where he played Big Smith. Betcha Cuse is the one that got him on Lost.
Now we just need to get Bruce Campbell on the island!

Bruce Campbell should fall from the sky while grasping the Book of the Dead. His appearance would cause quite a stir. Unless everyone's hangin' in the hatch at the time of so conspicuous a drop. And of course anyone who witnesses such an event wont tell anyone else about it anyway. Bruce, as great as you were in Evil Dead 2, forget about it...:(

As far as proof that the PTB read's this thread look no further then the fact that one of the writers on lost, devoted one blog entry to saying captain gortenn wasn't true.

This is the best idea EVER!!! We must campaign for this. I'm sure its possible to make enough fake spoilers all over the place so that even the TPTB think its true.:D

Can you point me to the Blog?

I used to have the link, since it was my Gortons frozen fish sticks theory he was referring to, but I seem to have misplaced it. It was Javier Grillo Marxauch's blog and what he said was something along the lines of "the boat guy is not the Gortons fisherman" in a discussion about that character.
He was of course lying to divert attention away from the truth.

Gorton's Fisherman (Zeke) = Naked truck driver chasing Paul Giamatti & Thomas Hayden Church at the end of "Sideways"
How am I ever going to take him seriously now with that image of him running down the street stuck in my head?

Of course he's not Captain Gorton, he's the English version... Captain Birdseye (http://www.birdseye.co.uk/kids/)

That would be radio free javi (http://chaodai.livejournal.com/) I believe. It's most likely buried in the archives though. Good luck.

It's ok.. I for one am not going to try and find it.
In my world the bearded guy is Ezekial Gorton, CEO of the Gortons frozen seafood product company.
Ezekial so as not to confuse him with the prophet Ezekiel.
It's ok.. I for one am not going to try and find it.
Oh, I didn't think you would Warty, after all you've already read it. I was wishing luck to those who did choose to search the archives there. I'm not gonna look for it either. ;)

Who is Zeke everybody is talking about?:)
I'll merge this into his thread and you can read all about him. He goes by many names around here, Zeke is just what Sawyer called him.
