I don't usually visit this thread too much but have been reading since post #7081 today. Don't want to ruin anyone's fun. Wanted to join in myself.

Just sick of seeing more negative comments about people who post at OWA.

I would like to point out that some people are "listening" to what others are saying and trying to follow the given advice.

The OWA thread is a game from what I understand and if you cannot add a funny comment here and there, like many other members who have been here longer do, what's the point?

If people that post on the OWA thread are constantly being
criticized all over the place, members both old and new are not going to stay and new people won't want to join.

I think reading and searching are completely valid for one to do. But people are getting a bit too picky now if you can't make a little joke here and there.

Sorry but I just felt something should be said. I hate to see OWA get ruined.
I know this may not be the place to reply, but I wanted to acknowledge Dionysus' post and say some things in response. I hope that no one minds my doing so.

Dionysus, I don't think that anyone is saying that a funny comment here or there is a problem. However, we have all tried to keep *conversations* to the BBR (even though we all make that mistake on occasion). The post you referenced brought up a conversation in which you were involved but really, I don't think it was meant as direct criticism, just that things have gotten very difficult lately. When some of us have expressed frustration at posters, it was *usually* those who post nothing of relevance, double-, triple- or quadruple-post, or that say "I don't have time to read the thread, but"...

I understand that we are rapidly becoming an area that is VERY hard for new people to catch up. I don't know what to do about that, though, because the very nature of LOST and the webmaze in general is that you go from clue to clue, building the mystery as you go along, and knowing the background is what makes it possible for us all to solve the puzzles we're receiving. Sometimes it is only through ten pages worth of related posts that someone finally goes "AH-HA!" because they've been able to tie all the pieces together from what we've posted individually.

All that being said, though, we need to keep some sort of rules -- any community on the internet has them, and they're there to make sure that the place is welcoming to new folks yet keeps the interest of all the older folks. There will always be forum visitors that do not follow those rules, and when we kindly remind them of them, often times we are accused of being picky, or rude, or what have you. (Speaking not so much for myself here, as I've only spoken up once or twice.) But some people still repeatedly break forum rules (or unspoken rules, such as jumping in as a newbie and expecting others to catch you up). Most of the time those of us who post a response *still manage* to remain polite, and STILL people break those rules. I think you can imagine why we might get frustrated.

Now, back to the conversing -- we all love to do it, and there's nothing wrong with it. We're trying to find the thin line between providing a usable outlet for research, and a social place that we can all get to know each other. I don't know what the best solution is, but I'd like to think that we can think of something that will work for everyone -- we're the Mazers, after all! :) Perhaps some discussion could take place around this, and then we can ask yung his thoughts on the matter?

Just my $.02. You do good research and I don't want you to feel like you don't want to stick around.

I think Lisa has made some good points. I haven't had time - YET - to catch up on the OWA thread, and I really don't know what Dionysus is refering to specifically. I do think that we need to do something to clear that thread up. And certainly a single joking post here or there is going to happen on occasion. We've all done it, and we probably all will at some time.

But here's my thought. I left the office this morning at eight o'clock and that thread has grown by what seems like 10 pages since then. With no new clues posted by Vincent yet. That's crazy.

I realize that folks are trying to come up with things that may tie into old stuff. But Vincent hasn't said that there is anything we have missed. Some of it may come back into play later, but for now, we don't know which things those are. So people are posting things blindly.

A lot of people are also discussing the show and their thoughts/opinions on what is going on. This is stuff that would normally be in General Discussion, but I hesitate to send folks that way since mentioning the webmaze there is such a big no-no, and many people are trying to tie the OWA stuff into the show.

The only possible thing I can think of, and I'd like other people's opinions on this, would be to have a sort of "Webmazer's Show Discussion Thread" here in this forum, where people could put forth their theories and thoughts about the show and how things on it may (or may not) relate to OWA and the other sites. That might cut down on a lot of the posts... and since that particular thread wouldn't relate to any one website, but more as a general show discussion, if folks got a bit chatty or off-topic in there, no one would have to jump in and get all "mini-lab." Unless of course, it went waaaaaaaaaay off topic.

Just a thought that might help cut down on all the posting in the OWA thread, and make it a bit easier for the newer folks to post. And if a particular post in that thread later became important to what we were discussing in OWA, it's author could copy it over or link to it easily enough.

*Note this was started right after the post of ILE's that I quote above. The way folks are post-whoring around here, and with the length of this post, there are probably a few pages separating it from this post already. LOL!

To follow up with Jeannie and Lisa,

Does anyone else remember when OWA was not posted here, but in the website on the general discussion? It would sometimes be 5-8 hours before a new post was made. And that was fine, if there was nothing new going on. I was one of the first people to sign up for OWA as I was one of the first posters. We did not use the threads to chat about nonsense, talk about the show, etc. That is why a lot of 'older' OWA mazers have gotten really annoyed, aggravated, etc. I know we are not all perfect, and off-topic posts have been submitted by all of us. But the thread is out of control. Like Jeannie said, no clues were released today and that thread grew significantly today, with blind posting and people whining that they don't have time to read the thread. Well, I have read the whole thread, some of it twice. Why? Because if I am trying to play the webmaze game and earn miles. I don't see why people cannot take the time before participating to read the thread or use the search thread tool. If you start to play a game you never played before, don't you read the instructions first before playing? This is the same thing. And we need a solution to the problem or that thread is going to become unmanagable, soon.

lostagain, the problem I see with an OWA rehash thread per se, is that no one will bother reading and catching up, and they won't know what is rehash. Plus they'll be afraid that if they post it in the rehash thread and it's new, someone will see it and run over to the official thread and post it and get the miles.

(That was a reason someone gave for not searching... someone else may post the answer while you search and you will lose the miles. Seriously.)

There is no sense in starting another thread, guys, it will just get abused and cluttered as well, I say leave OWA as is. Trudge through its madness if you feel like it, or just ignore it altogether, which I personally am starting to consider. There are enough clutter monsters there now, that no matter what we do, its not gonna change. I don't even recommend the BBR to them anymore, because they will just come over here and whine or post the same garbage. I am not referring to other webmaze sites either, because that will just make them curious, and they will wander over to them, and cluck them up the same way they did OWA.

Please do not take this as me saying all newer posters in the OWA thread are this way, but at least half if not more. Those of you that have been in here today from OWA are all ok in my book, but there are others out there that are not.

I really have no idea how to fix it. Everyone should try the ignore post feature. When you search for something, if the poster you are ignoring actually posted something relevant, it will still show up as a result and then you can read it.

I didn't mean to wine, I mean whine. The problems at OWA are slowly being sorted out. I know it is frustrating for everyone. I LOVE OWA .I don't what to rehash all that I've posted, I merely wanted people to stop saying negative things. I did not myself mean it in that way.

The main problem is when you sign up there is no orientation for you so many people are posting repetitive things etc. I know I did. The messages about reading and searching are finally being taken I think by people who care,(I do thus the post), plus Aggie's first page is a huge help!

I have been reading many threads and its's talked about elsewhere. We were having some fun. But hey we were making fun of the passengers, the trip, and where people were on the plane In all honesty to me it was an OWA thing. I don't think a new thread is the answer. Morning everyone! Can you believe this: I did NOT yet see last night's episode. I got stuck on the phone at 8:57 pm EST (right after I left some of you guys in Bork) with some mother-in-law drama! (Lab , I sound like you!)

Needless to say, although the Tivo was going, when I got off the phone I was too irked to watch 'The Lon Con.' And that's also why I missed the Bork Awards. So shhh! today on what happened til I get home to see it! I hope there are some webmaze goodies today because I settled the case that I was to write a brief on today and thus am a bit 'light' on the workload....

Dion - I am not sure what you are looking for. If it is your Caps Lock key it is to the left side of your keyboard, I think yours is stuck on. The complaints are not about the webmaze, but some are feeling the webmaze is contaminating their highly defined retinal nerves if it is even alluded to on "their" boards. There are a lot of mods and i am sure those who need to know the exact number have it memorized. The welcome message of each section has who the mod is for that section for the most part.

dionysus.....if your asking what is the argument:

Some people dont want to have any webmaze information in the threads that they read. so called "purists". They think that anything that isnt seen on the show itself is extraneous. When they come to this website, they want to be able to read and talk about the show, without any other sources but the show itself.

Other people think that the Theories and Speculation section should be open to ideas that are derivations of things they see on the show. Spoilers have always been banned, but the Webmaze is new territory....so it is just a discussion about what information should be allowed to be talked about in the main forums.

WHAT I DON'T GET IS, IN GENERAL, DOESN'T BSS1 WHO I BELIEVE RUNS LOST-TV (LOST) WANT NEW PEOPLE TO JOIN?
