About 10 years ago, when I lived in another town, I was at my neighbor's, hanging out on the porch. They had a huge rabbit (Belgian?) and a 2 year old boy. The little boy stripped naked and crawled in the cage with the rabbit while the mom was in the kitchen. Well, his dad and I thought it was the cutest thing we'd ever seen, and he ran for the camera. When mom came out, she screamed! I think she sterilized the poor kid, and she was so mad at us, I still laugh.

Well thank GOD the new place is mostly on the first floor (YAY!! I actually have an upstairs and downstairs now!!) I have been on the third floor of EVERY Apt I've lived in since I moved out of the dorms at Berklee (and that was the 4th floor). So this is gonna be a VERY pleasant change. :)

Me too! I once stayed at a monastery rather than sleep outside on the ground in humid summer weather in Indiana. The room had no tv and the only reading material was a catalog from the monastery's business, a booklet giving the history of their order, and I think a Bible. But it was inside and air-conditioned, had a bed, and had an indoor toilet and shower (had I camped I would have had to use an outhouse with wasps).

So much awesome music offered in LOST....they just HAVE to do a CD of songs (non original, non Giacchino score) from the show eventually.
And at that, they had BETTER be releasing a S2 score soundtrack, cause I absolutely LOVE the S2 theme (much like "Life and Death" was the prominent theme in S1). You just KNOW that Giacchino has some magic up his sleeve for the last few Eps of the season...."Parting Words" anyone??
I predict when the CHURCH is finished, you will hear it.
And it will happen when they need it most.

There is a site that has all the songs (non-score) featured in LOST, I just can't seem to find it right now. Perhaps someone else knows what I'm talkin about and can link you.

Hey Rose - gotta love the peeps! did you know they make red ones, but only sell them at Target? LOL My daughter requests those every year.

Lostgal - We've got some wierd school days, they give us non-holidays off for teacher work days and thing but the "minor" holidays they make the kids go to school, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday...they do give the whole week off during Thanksgiving and 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 in March for Spring Break. I'd rather have days off here and there instead of a week at a time.

It's a bank holiday? I never go to the bank anymore thanks to direct deposit and ATM cards, so I don't keep track of those things.

Being as Easter always falls during tax season, I'm always working Good Friday. :( On the plus side, today's paycheck will have my tax season bonus attached! :Cowdance:

Our schools are always closed on Good Friday and for the entire week after Easter. That's the kids' spring break here.

As to the earlier talk of school on Good Friday, I don't think we ever had Good Friday off when I was a kid. I just looked at my old school's website and they are having class today. (I think there was Good Friday, or Easter Monday, or maybe even both that kids got off in northern Virginia, but my kids were in a private school there so I didn't pay too much attention to the public school schedules.)

I think it may have something to do with the predominate religions in an area. I grew up in a small town in KY, very Bible Belt, very Protestant. I don't think any of the Protestant churches in town (dozens of varieties of Baptist and Penecostal for the most part) really did anything in the way of services for Good Friday. The fasting stuff that Aggie mentioned is a Catholic thing. The very few kids in our school who were Catholic could request to be dismissed for holy days, but I don't remember that happening much at all. I think Episcopal and Luthern churches may do more in the way of Good Friday services (we didn't have any of those around us). Our church here in NH rents our facilities to an nondenominational congregation. I don't believe they are having any sort of Good Friday services (although our congregation and theirs is having a joing communion service this evening).

So I would be curious if those of you whose children do have to go to school today are in areas in which Catholics, Episcopalians, and Lutherns are in relatively small proportion.

Growing up, basketball games were never scheduled on Wednesday, because that was the day that all the Protestant churches had their mid-week services. The Catholic church had their mid-week services on Thursday nights -- they were just out of luck

Interesting Vee. I'd say in my kids (public) school system, the split would be about 40/40/20 for Catholics/Protestants/Jewish and other. But in this area in total, the Catholics are a LARGE part of the population, so I'm not surprised that all the schools around here have (for as long as I remember) been closed for Good Friday and the week after Easter.

On the other hand, the public school that I went to happened to have a very large Jewish population. I used to get so angry as a kid, because the Jewish kids were allowed to take off all Jewish holidays as excused absences, but we had to go. They got all our holidays off though, since the schools were closed. I had a chemistry class in high school where on every Jewish holiday the teacher and I were the only ones there. While that was an exception, I would say that most classes had less than ten students present on any Jewish holiday.

the district i teach in is largely Protestant/Catholic, with a small minority of Other. We would have had the whole week off except for a lousy snow day. We also have Easter Monday off. However, a neighboring district has a much larger percentage of Jewish and other, and they still had the entire week plus monday off. so basically i think it's a crap shoot depending on the area.

The accounting firm I used to work for had a lot of Jewish founders but I don't remember there being very many in the lower staffing levels (although my office mate was a Catholic in the process of converting to Judaism because she was engaged to a Jewish guy). A year or two before I started working there, a large national firm had bought the smaller local firm. They sent in this personnel director that was a Messanic Jew (I think) and he took both Christian and Jewish holy days off. Plus he instituted the policy that let blacks take off Martin Luther King Jr day as a holiday. Between those two things, it really riled a (white) secretary who decided she would start "celebrating" MLK Day, too. Thankfully, that guy didn't last there a long time. (Some people had issues with his personality, too)

Hi! No, I don't mind the nickname at all. I'm always sneeking onto these boards during work (OOPS!), and lurked during the whole Flight 213, which was awesome. Every time I got an idea though, someone was always quicker than me. But that's OK - this has been a ton of fun to just sit around and learn about new places and things.
