Everyone's talking about the monster - but I'd like to hear theories on what Walt was trying to say to Michael (via old-school IM) ;-)

I like Jack, I do...but I kinda wish Michael would have dropped-kicked him just this once so that he could turn his attentions to what Walt was saying, despite Mr. Candle's wanrings about using the computer for communication.

Just before Jack came in and spoiled the fun.
"Walt" was typing some like "I need you to"...

But we never saw what it had said.
I still don't think it's Walt.

And if it was Walt why would walt ask his father if he was alone....?

maybe he was going to send him some pics...

Agreed - no new theories here, but I think it's all part of the experiment - to see if Michael would respond.

Wait...has anyone other than Locke and Eko seen the spliced out film where Candle warns against using the computer for communication? I assume Michael heard it, otherwise he wouldn't have been trying to hide anything from Jack. But I don't remember seeing him watch that extra footage.

my dad brought up an intresting point last night while watching it. The punctuation of Walt's message was really good. He capitalized things and used periods and commas (i believe)

If it was walt wouldn't he be trying to just type fast and not worrying about that stuff, he said something along the lines of like he had to hurry cause they were coming back (or something close to it) which leaves me to believe it may not be Him

Good point.

And what kind of pre-teen uses the phrase "I need you to..."?

That's the kind of thing my boss says.

Definitely not Walt.

I don't think Mike knows anything about not using the computer. IMO.

And I didn't notice, but did they show how many minutes were left on the countdown? I thought access was restricted on the computer until 4 minutes before the end of the timer.

I'm not going to say it is definitely Walt, but I disagree with those that evidence of good punctuation means it wasn't him. Walt was basically a rich kid while living with his mom, and probably a product of a well financed private education.

I'm pretty certain Michael had chance to read the end of the sentence, it's just that we weren't shown it. However, I think it could be a havid, after all, Michael sat down, and within seconds he was talking to "Walt", I would have expected to have been waiting hours.

Michael was checking his watch when he went into the hatch. Perhaps he had worked out a rendezvous time with "Walt" the last time he chatted with him.

what happined during the time between the "Dad?" message appeared (ep. 9) and when michael first used the computer in ep. 10!?!?!?

i think that people would have been dying to find out what michael would do, during the hiatus, after he read the "Dad?" message...

ep. 10, didnt even show us what happined...

hmmm...

Yeah that's a good point - you would think Michael would have continued talking at the end of ep9. BUT......the first thing Michael asked "Walt" in ep10 was "Are you ok?". If Michael continued talking at the end of ep9 but we didn't see it, that's the first thing he would have asked. So maybe at the end of ep9, the transmission cut off or something.

Someone else brought up the idea that maybe Michael just turned the computer monitor off when Jack arrived. Maybe when Jack left, he continued to talk. In any case, I think Michael and "Walt" are communicating much more than the viewers see.

I disagree with the people that don't think Michael heard the missing part of the tape. Of course, he heard it. In fact, while he was hearing it he was glancing around firtively to see if anyone was going to come by and stop him from typing on the computer.

I also disagree that just because words are spelled correctly and capitalized that this is not Walt.

I believe that it is NOT Walt. I believe that it is someone trying to draw the lostaways away from their nice little safe shelter and into the hands of the "others". Afterall, the others that abducted Walt had a boat with gasoline in it. Why wouldn't they have a computer or be in another hatch somewhere else?

I also agree that it is by now fairly obvious that this is some sort of experiment, but as to why, no one knows yet.

Why does the supposed Walt ask Michael, "Are you alone?"

Daan

So no one will know where Michaels heading. Its seems obvious that Michael wel go after Walt.

LoStMyMiNd
01-12-06, 07:23 PM
How does Walt even know that they opened the hatch and found the computer and what is going on with everyone in his old camp? Because this question can't be answered, this is not Walt

Daan
01-12-06, 07:24 PM
Well, its not like the first sentence 'Walt' said was: Hey Dad, say hi to Eko from me, hows the hatch?'

Isn't it too much to believe that a 9 year old can type that fast?

FordPrefect
01-12-06, 08:49 PM
Maybe he's not typing; there are other methods of input. Maybe the Others have installed speech recognition software which automatically places ellipses at appropriate places.

They added it with the text reveal software that invariably comes with every communications scene in television or cinema. Y'know, the scroll and glide of the text, instead of just appearing all at once as it does usually.

I don't think its walt... dunno who though but not walt, it is weird though...

and I think (IIRC) that he typed "I need you to come--" then it cut to Jack.. at least I think the next word was "come"

What did you mean? I dont understand it.

I don't understand either. I don't think it's Walt, just cause. I don't think any of the evidence (spelling, typing speed, etc) proves that it's not. Just the circumstances and general island weirdness make me think that it's not him.

But, the first post by "Walt" was "Hello?". If it was Walt, he could have been locked in a room with a computer and was just checking to see if he could communicate out with it.

That's right - I forgot about that. I think they showed "C-O-M" and then the camera panned to Jack.

I'd bet 2 airplane bottles of Jack Daniels that the rest of the message would have given him a location in the jungle.

I don't think Walt is in any danger, like locked in a room or anything. I probably shouldn't, but I believed Goodwin when he said to Ana-Lucia "the children are fine. They're better this way." In fact, that specific conversation could lead to a TON of clues.

I tend to think that although the Others come off as raving kidnappers and murderers, they sincerely think that what they're doing is right. Doesn't make it right, I don't mean to imply that the ends justify the means, but they're not trying to kill people. They're trying to take the "good people" to what they believe is a better life.

...we need some kind of Psychologist on this thread to interpret the Others behavior...any got Dr. Phil's number?

I'm prettty sure it was going to say. "I need you to complete a permission form for me to go on the others trip to the museum next week. Just fax me a copy."

I agree with Leslie's bitchin' name. It makes me sort of mad that Ana had to start fighting Goodwin because if she had kept talking we probably could have learned a lot more about who they are and what they do. But I would agree that the Others are not "bad," maybe just brainwashed by the "disease" that is supposedly out there.
But there is no doubt that the Others can act and come up with clever plans

It continues to freak me out that the 'Others' don't ma ek noise when they walk through the jungle. Anyone notice when JIn and Eko were hiding and the Others group walked right past them. Not one shuffle of leaves, no snapping of twigs...nothing.

I have absolutely no theories on how they manage to pull that off, other than other-worldly theories that are pretty ridiculous.

If I remember correctly, certain Native American tribes would train themselves to walk through the forest and not make any sound, for hunting and warring purposes. The Others could have trained themselves similiarly.
