The question that plagues my mind most is: Where is Max? For weeks he kept us on our toes with his logic, his criticism and his never-ending commitment to backing up bold statements with actual knowledge. That was his specialty.
Max seemed to thoroughly enjoy blanketing us in his knowledge and his expertise and daring us to push a little further in our responses - often at our own beheading.
Max felt no remorse when he cut people off at the knees. He had no mercy, no sympathy and certainly no patience for stupid statements. And yet now, without his vigilance, stupid statements abound. The board is awash with speculation that seems pulled directly from the head of a toddler. With Max in our midst, that was immediately contained by his unfailing need to be quick in response and heartless in his quest for real defined answers.
I've been wondering where he is. It seemed to me that Max had a great love of the show and an interest in some of the people here. What drove him away? How was he able to escape his addiction? It is clear that the rest of us couldn't and have continued to wade through the muck in a serious pursuit of things we can discuss with enthusiasm and an eye toward an actual understanding.
I don't think Max did give it up. I think he's still here. I don't think he got away from this board any more than the rest of us. I don't think it was possible for him.
I think Max changed his name and is hiding among us - striking from a distance and perhaps having a little more fun. After all, when the people around you have drunk from the poisoned well, it is far easier to partake of the drink yourself than to fight the madness.
Agree with me? Think maxpublic is still here? Does anyone besides me see a tiny glimpse of Max hidden somewhere on this board?
I could be wrong... but I could be right. What do you think?
Maybe the more important question is: If you vanish from the board tomorrow, will people miss you as much as I miss Max? Do you think your mind is as sharp, your words as insightful or your interest as great?
I think I know who he might be. Anyone else want to take a guess?
