This LA times article was mentioned in the "Bad Twin" book thread along with other LOST marketing gimmicks:

http://www.calendarlive.com/printedition/calendar/cl-et-lost3jan03,2,1315617.story

In the thread, paondejour says in reference to that article "Lindelof also talks a little bit about the Web site they are developing to explore the Lost mythology that will never get into the show. This compounds my worry that the show won't be capable of fully explaining itself."

I'm thinking this is the writers' way of resolving the puzzles that seem to be forgotten, or those that are simply used to advance the plot but otherwise have no purpose (can't remember the term for that--help me Central Scrutinizer). So what do you think will be "explored" on said new website? Some possibilities:

Adam & Eve
the black & white stones
the cable (although I can see this explanation coming now that we've seen the hatch)
the shackled skeletons on the Black Rock

I'm not sure what might qualify as mythology fodder and what might still tie in to future episodes. Just curious as to what others think, seriously or otherwise :)

I think the examples you provided are too important to relegate to collateral ideas. They are 'forgotten' mysteries, but seem important nonetheless. More than likely, we'll get this kind of trivial stuff which doesn't qualify as show mythology to me:

Quoted from the LA Times article: Soon there will be "Lost Video Diaries" on Verizon cellphones, two-minute episodes that will chronicle the stories of characters who were on the doomed Oceanic Flight 815 but who do not appear on the show. Prepare for the worst. Two-minutes of an unidentified redshirt washing their socks? Or a FB about a character that may never appear on the show? That's not gonna get me to change my mobile provider to Verizon.

This idea was first done on the web with the diary writer - TPTB saw the hits and built a revenue stream. They know the fans are hungry for clues, but I honestly don't expect to be given anything notable. They are leveraging that curiousity for revenue and show promotion, not to provide meaningful answers.

In the original announcement, they stated these two minute clips would be included as an extra in the Season Two DVD set. But I'm sure it won't reveal anything major.

This sounds like something the main writers would hand off to secondary writers. Kind of like Jin's resume.
Keep those grains of salt handy.

I avoid all of this crap as if it were a big giant dose of the plague.

Thank you lacenaire mcguffin it is!

Wart, I tend to agree...I have a hard enough time keeping up with just this one board, let alone the fan magazines, novels, other websites. Whew. I don't feel so left out now.

I'm trying to see if anyone has any info about I rumor I heard. I know these things are usually baseless, but I heard from a friend of a friend that the producers of LOST are going to begin creating mini-episode of LOST for download on iTunes, like 5 minute LOST shorts that add to the mythology of the island. Has anyone heard anything about this? Have I been duped? If it's true, it would seem like an excellent idea, a great way to send people to iTunes and get people more excited about the show.

There have been commercials on TV about this, I think it is on Verizon cell phones that it will be done.

MOD: This should really be on GD since it is an "official" type of thing, not a spin-off.

They will indeed be doing that, and apparently each of the episodes will feature one of the background characters we always see walking around but never hear talking. It's also been said that these mini episodes will be included with the Season 2 DVD, so even those without Verizon will get to see them. (I have a feeling they will be floating around the net long before the DVD comes out, though.)

ETA: Note to self: Learn to type faster or wait longer to respond to avoid double posting.

lab, is there anywhere this can go? I don't really see why it was shoved down here...

Probably because Spin-off is for anything outside of the show; novels, VCast, etc. We primarily only talk about the websites but my understanding is it's for all non-TV info.

Don't be sorry L4G. You're not the one who put it here. Besides, after what went on last week, who knows what the mods are thining sometimes?

*sorry, lab5, but IMHO that T&S thing was not handled properly*

Lab - Can I suggest that we open up the other forum we deleted last week? Use this forum for all webmaze stuff and use the other one for the Vcasts, spin-off books, maybe even magazine articles? It might help to keep all the borks in a row.

No to another forum for now. It may turn into the monster like the one that was created last week. For now, we will let them come down here, if we start getting a whole lot, then either we will make a "Potporri" thread with just a mismatch of the short misc. type threads. If down the line it gets worse, I will bring up the idea of another forum like ralf just mentioned.

And sorry, nobody has got an answer for you yet,LostforGood, all I can say is keep checking back and maybe somebody who knows will come along and post.
