I wouldn't normally do this, (start a new thread, that is), but because I've heard from many in this community (LOST-TV) after I mentioned being in the path, I thought I'd post an update and allow others a forum to do so as well.
As for the area I live in, (southwest Georgia), we came away rather well given that we were on the easterly side of the hurricane. That was, as you most likely heard, the dangerous or more violent side. We've got some tree branches down, partial power outages, and limited structural damage. Most, if not all, of the structural damage was due to the ground already be saturated by rain and the wind just did what wind does. Luckily we had no deaths in my area and only a few injuries, mostly from downed trees.
I know of several others who were either in the path themselves or had family members in the path. From everything I've heard, everyone made it through OK, given the circumstances.
Thanks to all for your concern and your comments. I, for one, appreciate it! The sad part is, to have a storm of this ferocity this early in the season doesn't bode well for the rest of the summer. I hope I'm proven wrong and we won't have any more this summer but, after getting hit last year with 3 in a matter of weeks, I don't know. I'm not on the coast but I'm close enough that it doesn't matter. Those on the coast who went inland were far north of me.
Here's to hoping that everyone else and their families made it through the hurricane OK. Y'all are all in my thoughts and prayers. Yesterday, Sunday, was difficult to sit through but I was one of the lucky ones. I hope everyone else, here and elsewhere, affected by Dennis was as lucky!
