First impressions are very important, although mine are often wrong. Ever since a close friend of mine admitted to originally interpreting me as stuck up, and overly sophisticated (hahahuh?), I have been interested in peoples first impressions.

So now there is a thread for them. General impression's of the board, and specific impressions of people are welcomed. However while they should be honest they should never be mean.

Here are my first few, more too follow, later:

Spiderman Houston -Honestly I did not quickley connect with Spidey. Mostly because we got into some sort of fight in a Lost related area of the board, not a bad fight, just a stubborn butting of heads. Then when I started random questions I started to get to know him, and he has been one of the people I have gotten along with the best (well not in the car thread), who I trust, and who I can depend on to keep me informed, and mock Canada (not always in that order). He is essential here in many ways.

Leuthen - I started posting a couple months before he did, and when he first started posting, his nascar avatar did not make the best impression on me, So maybe that friend was on to something when she said stuck up. Also he seemed all knowing, which, now I know he is. When he first entered lostwawys in a serious way, It was right after the ezhack, and he misread my sarcasm and thought I was mad at him. Which lead me to the unnatural conclusion that he was mad at me. But after a fairly short period d of time I discovered that my original assessment of leuthen was entirely wrong. He is funny, sweet (even if he won't admit it), and intresting. He is one of the best mods we have ever had.

MjB: Really started posting in my summer absence, and when I returned home I remember being immodestly enthralled by her kindness and honesty, as I get to know her more these factors only grow deeper. Although at first I didn't think she liked me much, she soon set me straight.

Don't worry if you don't see your name here, and think you should it's probabley comming.

Come on people post your first impression

I didn't even remember about that car thread. But we all know now that one of the writers said that the "same car" doesn't mean anything and is not intentional. So to quote Nelson from the Simpsons, "Ha-ha!" I'm like the guy in Memento and I think I forgot my first impressions but if I remember i will post them.

I remember this! And I remember being absolutely floored that you thought that I didn't like you. I went back and tried to check as many of my posts as I could to see what I had done. All I know is that I am very happy that you had pm'd me. I've gained a good friend because of your honesty and curiousness!

And since you wrote it first: I mostly agree with you about Leuthen. Difference is - his avatar, etc never bothered me. I live in an area completely enthralled by all of that, so it is normal for me. My original impression was that he is very intelligent, well spoken, well written, honest, and a general smart-a$$. All things that I respect highly. I agree that he is very sweet and caring - and I don't care if I hear it from him later. ;) (definitely high on my list of people that I would want to someday meet IRL)

I won't really go into anyone else - except to say that I've usually been right about people. There are some wonderful people here, that I saw immediately and then there are some that make me roll my eyes.

:awwhug: , BTW.

edited because I can't type!

Dominic_Obsessor*- Interesting young character with good intentions. Although over-the-top a bit, she is still fun to be arround. Unfortunately she hasn't been around for a while.

Momofsamty- The greatest online friend I've ever had! A GREAT person, tons of fun to be around, but unfortunately she's been gone a while :( Haven't seen ya around Momo! Come BACK!!!!!!!

I always worry that people I hold in high esteem don't like me, it had nothing to do with any of your delibrite action's just my youthfull lack of forsight and true knowladge showing through my polished exterior

Difference is - he avatar, etc never bothered me. I live in an area completely enthralled by all of that, so it is normal for me.

LOL - It's funny how geography changes things, hardley anyone in Canada, particulerly in Toronto (even with the molson indy) watches it. The one person I do know who watches it is a tad dodgy.

Wow, thanks mj! You are far too kind, really, but I appreciate your words. Yes I did have my NASCAR avatar for a while at the old place and the reasons behind that aren't relevent to this thread so I'll refrain from elaborating.

Well, the time after the EZHack was a confusing time for many here, and that again is it's own backstory.

As for my first impressions:

LostInWilderness - When I first started interacting with LIW on the board, it took me awhile to get used to his method of responding to posters, myself included. It seemed to me, at the time, that he was trying to be argumentative but I later came to appreciate and understand his methods. We've grown to understand each other a bit at this point, at least I'd like to think so.

Khan & PhantomPhase - Well, when Khan (formerly nthxing) and PhantomPhase first started posting in the Michelle Rodriguez/Ana-Lucia forum, I honestly didn't care for the comments they were making. It seemed to me to be needless Ana bashing, which really hacked me off. However, once I gained an understanding of where they were coming from and why they actually disliked Ana, I had to admit I agreed with their reasoning. That doesn't mean I'm on their side, but I certainly appreciate where they're coming from and the discussions there took a whole new turn once I understood this.

Those are a couple that come to mind at the moment. I reserve the right to add more in the future as I remember them. I tend to wait before assuming anything about anyone. I lurked here for 2 months before I ever made my first post. I guess that's always stuck with me.

Thanks again for the way too kind comments mj! This should be an interesting thread to say the least. :)

Leuthen- Dedicated to the thankless job he has and seems like an all round nice bloke

Redneck Once Removed - thought you were a man (sorry Tashi - I learned real quick)

Bekka - an intelligent woman who said whatever she was thinking.

Alibrastar - a teenager looking for a fun hobby.

Homer Noodleman - I thought he was an old man who has been around the block a few hundred times :) Sorry Homer

boonian androphile - I hate to admit this, but my first impression of boonian was that he was, in fact, a she. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I knew I was wrong from the outset. Sorry boonian, I made a mistake.

PiecesOfArzt - My first impression of PoA was akin to my first impression of boonian; just the other way around. These screen names can be ambiguous to say the least sometimes.

MJBinNC - One of those times when I actually got everything right the first time around. She's a wonderful poster, intelligent, funny, and just as sarcastic as me.

I've come to really enjoy these people and their comments, along with everyone else's. It's just odd how first impressions can be made a second time with a little bit of background info. :)

My first impression of Leuthen? How do you pronounce that name? Also a deep admiration of Locke. And a genuinely friendly, funny and giving conversationalist.

Well, with that in mind, I feel even worse that I was wrong. :) As difficult as LOST is to figure out, sometimes, trying to visualize a person here solely through their words isn't exactly easy either. ;)

Thanks for the words boonian. I remember one of the first conversations we had regarding eventuality and fate and that's when I first came to appreciate what an intelligent and open-minded person you were/are.

WartHawg1 - I first came to appreciate Warty's comments/posts because they were so spot on, especially when it came to dealing with newbies....actually I think the more correct term is n00bs.

Hodgepodge - Another person that made a great first impression on me. One of the most intelligent, well thought out, and responsive posters I've ever met here. I think he most likely was the first person who welcomed me here oh so long ago and he's never changed.

azteclady - The first mod/admin that ever PM'd me at the old place. It was in regard to a post I made in the "Smells that drive you crazy in a good way" thread. Whether good, or bad, whatever thoughts/feelings anyone has about the way I moderate these boards, I learned everything from her. She is, and has always been, the greatest influence on how I conduct myself here.

Boonian, Didn't you have a dancing avatar? Yup that was my very articulate first impression. Later I discovered you were a great T&S person (just cause I am too scared to post there doesn't mean I don't Lurk) and genrally a great very funny person, as MjB states in a word a 'dear'.

Your Wellcome, as for the Nascar avatar, I have nothing against it, it was a stupid misjudgment made when I was young and dumb. Besides I change my avatar from day to day, so one of them must have offended somebody.

Well, I started almost exactly a year ago and the first person I remember is KathyFan2 aka KF2. It was hard to miss him, he had a post in every thread I opened. I, like many people, thought he was a woman in his 30s at first. And I also thought he never slept since he had about 200 posts a day.

And since Hodgepodge has had the same Locke avatar forever, I always imagine that he looks like Locke.

Never had an avatar until Sawyerhasbestlines made me! I had a Far Side, then Charlie hanging, then the current.

Speaking of Sawyerhasbestlines, my first impression was boy she's tough. I liked that, and have enjoyed her posts---and her occasional teasing---and her trio of Ethans!

And Drabauer!---who gave me such kind, informative and supportive words on my first post, a theory. I made sure I read every post she made. I relished her use of words and topics of discussion. Now we see you too infrequently, Amy!

LOL - Well I am guilty of doing the same thing, baced on that logic, spidermanhoustan is in Jessica Alba's house, because he is actully Jessica alba. ;) Although as everyone knows that is not the case

Sorry Boonian - I do remember your early posts, and always mentally associate you with SHBL's since the very beggaining, and Monty Python for the last few mounths. Both MJB's and your name poped into my mind when I saw monty pythons spamalot this week.

First impression of DohBoy - was that he was a lot younger then he actully is, because of a koolaide avatar (I think) that said Oh yeah. Then I started reading his posts and really liking him and agreeing with all most all his post. Then I found out he has almost the exact same taste as me, and well what more can I say

How funny...many people say I look like a teenager, I always get carded...I'm 4'11" and look very young but I am 35. And yes, I do enjoy it here, better than working and sometimes better than being home doing chores & what-not. I have so much fun and laugh a bunch. Yeah, we all can take things personally sometimes and ya know, sometimes we need someone to point things out to us, so my impressions of people here are very positive-no one here has ever pissed me completely/totally off. Everyone has nice manners and big hearts. Hats off to ya'll. I do have a few things to say about a few folks:

ILLB: BIG flirt.....but that's okay, it's all in fun & it makes me laugh.

Leuthen - Everytime I saw your avatar I thought you were a girl, probably because you have a picture of a girl...(i know that makes no sense, but whatever), but you were nice too, and you seem to be a hard working mod.

Spidey- I thought Spidey was a girl for the longest time! lol Sorry! It was his av, and I believe when I first joined that he had a Mariah Carey one. Eventually I figured out that he was a guy. And I thought was was a very sarcastic and funny person.

Leuth- I've always thought that Leuth was very nice. And he is a sweetheart! :D At first, I actually thought that he was younger than he really is! lol Many of his posts made me laugh, and he is one of the best mods!

Mary- Mary was always so nice to me! :) And she bought me ezsupporter at the old place! She's one of the nicest people on the board. She was always really caring too. :D

Bekka- I thought Bekka was young, like around my age, because she was so crazy in chat! lol She was always nice though, and very outgoing. And she was so funny! I lmao so many times in chat because of things she said!

Freck- Crunktard... Just kidding! :p At first, he seemed kinda mean, but that was just sarcasm, which I'm used to now! He was always funny and seemed like a great person!

JJ- You were one of the first people my age that I chatted with! Those were the days! lol Chat at the old place was classic, we had our clones, and jane... Good times! lol He was always nice and funny and just a fun guy to chat with! :D

As far as the Male female thing, I have been right about almost everyone, You first, Leuthen, Spidey (Ok so the word man in his username tipped me off - and he didn't have a female avatar back then), otherdruid, redneck, peices of artz the the onley person who's sex was an issue was feignbaum. It wasn't intill this fall when I figured that out *hits self on head*.

Az - Was the mod that greeted me, and actully agreed with me (on a first post no less, too bad I went down hill from there). She was my first first impression; There is just something about Az that is is so great; its not just her intellagence, her kindness, her strength, or her occasional use of much needed tough love, it is the combination, and the application of these abilities

Warthawg1
02-23-06, 09:20 PM
Aztec lady - My first impression was "now that's a good and fair moderator". She was dilligent, yet not condescending...sweet, yet firm with her understanding of what her job was.

Leuthen - "He should be a moderator"

Drabauer - "Now that's someone who analyzes LOST a bit too much, but she is hellacool"

KF2 - Now there are reasons for this, but I originally didn't like him. I would note however that I was being influenced by others words, and after having time to formulate my own opinion, I came to like him.

Boonian - "What the hell does that name mean?....seriously.. WTF does that mean?"

One more quick note - Don't read anything into me mentioning you or not. I've had favorable impressions regarding most everyone. I would list names but I would leave someone out and I don't want to do that. Suffice it to say that 90% of you have given me a very nice first impression, and most who haven't have been identified as the trolling squid sticks they really were, and have been driven off the site.

Boone + ian = Boonian (also serving proudly as adjective form of Boone: Now that was a boonian f&#$-@p if I ever saw one!)

Andro (greek for man) + Phile (greek for love) = well, you get it.

Ah, first impressions. I have to live up to these where I work. I give each person the benefit of the doubt until I hear/see otherwise. With that said, here are my first impressions of a coupla kids/friends/posters that I have encountered as of late. If I don't have you up here, I may not know much about you. Pay no mind. I can easily be swayed to or fro, and like to make friends. But you know what they say about your enemies.....Just kidding. Anyways, here is my 2 clams on who I know....

As for mods- Leuth: Great guy and very helpful. Takes the time to help people. Admirer of sweaty Kate as well as lover of Danica. Like him from the start and helped me on the old board.

Bekka: Cool girl and friendly. Thought she was a spazz but then found her to be helpful and cool as all get out.

TheBigCat: Intimates me, but I like that he is thorough.

Cinderellabop: Very friendly, and likes AD. Already down in my book.

As for posters: MJB, AZ, Merry, Timbo, OD, Sare, Momo, Feigenbaum, Redneck, and LIHS: I enjoy playing with them (settle down now) with the daily games and trivia as well as dealing with theories and general commentary. Keeps me on my toes at work. Very intelligent kids and always are sharp knives, so to speak.

ILLB, ILF, Warty, and Homer: Quick wit, sarcastically hysterical, and down to earth. Homer still kinda frightens me though. His crush on Cindy is scaring me (just kidding. I like Mick Jagger too. Just joshin' ya).

Island_maverick: Just met him, but keep the photos coming along. British women are hot-ties.

I can't think of anyone else right now. Sorry if you are not mentioned. This isn't an awards show or something. My first impression of the board though, was what a great community....and they enjoy Lost as well.

Azteclady scared me to death when I got here last February. I love her to death now.

Merry Slug was ravishing from the day she agreed to bunk with me.

Warty was awestriking to me. Still is.

Mystjade and LIHE have always been sweethearts.

Momo, MJB, and Dharmit are have always been high in my esteem, ever since I first talked to them.

Leuth seemed like a buddy right off the bat.

Drabauer, well, Doc, your the brains of the operation, and your intellect puts me in my place. I remember the first time I read your posts I was thinking, "Jesus, that's some good writing

KF2 was a kindred, albeit more flamboyant spirit right from the start.

YouFirst was a breath of fresh air in a noob infested time.

If I forgot you, it's because I've been at work for way too long now.

Oh yeah, and MoreLikeHurleyThanYou is, and always was, a bastard.

Well - as for me - the feeling is mutual! You are fun to play games with. You always have a good answer or comeback. You also keep me on my toes.

And one day when my daughter and I come to your town, I'll let you know, and I'll treat you to lunch!

Momo, MJB, and Dharmit are have always been high in my esteem, ever since I first talked to them.

Oh, MLHTY! You have always been fun, funny, and a genuinely wonderful person that I look forward to seeing! (and missing you right now since work has snuck in!)

My first impression of Warty:

"Wow...here is someone who hates noobs just as much as me!"

I got Warty right away and ILF too for that matter. Perhaps it's just becuase I have a very similar sense of humor and hate stupidity. There is no such thing as too much sarcasm.

I could have just called myself Gayboy 4815162342 but that would have been too obvious.
:rotfl: Actually, I asked boonian back before Christmas via email about his name and once he explained it me, I smacked myself on the forehead thinking, "How did I not figure that out before now?" :)

As Warty said, if I fail to mention anyone here, it's not on purpose. I've come to know a LOT of people during my time here and about 99% have made a great first impression on me. I enjoy everyone's posts/thoughts/insight on this forum, and we have more coming in everyday! :)

And LIHE - I always enjoyed your posts, humor and overall fun nature. Between you and your cohorts (who I really do miss), I had many a chuckle.

:awwhug:

LIHE- at first I thought that you were going to be the next do* for me, but it turns out you're not. Some fun chatting with ya, fun tackling ya, and overall a great person. Also fun to talk basketball with you, something most other people in chat don't really enjoy doing

*cringes* Yeesh... ouch that stings. I really hope I don't come off like that! But chatting with you was fun! It was nice to have someone to talk basketball with!

Crandyman - I had seen Crandy before, but my first real impression was formed in the last days of the old EZ board when the mods had left and he and I went on a terror rampage of the T&S section of the boards. I am not prone to laugh easily, but during those couple of days I laughed harder than I have ever laughed on these boards. I literally had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard, and that will always be my impression of Crandy.

MLHTY - As soon as I saw his name and siggy, I knew I would like this guy. I was correct.

lmao! You have over 2,000 posts... does that make you a post ho?
No... 90% or better of all of my posts have been legitimate LOST discussion, or at least a reply not just designed to get my post count up. It's just not me to engage in much idle chit chat on message boards, not that there's anythign wrong with that..

Thank you! :D

Well I'll make my own list too since everyone else has...

MLHTY, MJ, Mel, Bekka, Sare, Merry, Momo, wickedsweet - Would be impossible to say a bad word against any of you. Thanks for looking out for me on here. :D

Warty, ILLB, ILF, Crandy - I'll admit, at first I was scared of conversing with any of you, you didn't seem to like new people at all, lol. After talking to you all, you're all great people and I couldn't count the amount of times you've made me laugh.

Az - She was firm, but fair. Not a bad word to say against her, she's been nothing but nice to me. :)

LIHE, ScubaSteve, Scott, Swan - My chat buddies who were responsible for me going back in there, especially Scott. You're all crazy. :p

The Mods - Great bunch of people who do a great job here.

Buddha, Juanbong, Mystjade, OD, Feigenbaum, RoR, ALostRockstar and anyone else I've missed, you're all great too. :p

Warthawg that is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I was suffering new Mommy brain when I started posting here so alot of my 1st impressions are pretty blurry, here's the ones I remember:

KF2- I started posting during the Hurricane Katrina mess and KF2 and I definatly had different stances on the matter. I think I was alittle bit intimadated by KF2 at first. Then KF2 posted about drunk driving and I really came to respect and look forward to your post.

Leuthen. Leuthen helped mediate the Katrina debate and was the first really kind person I had ever come acrossed on a message board (most of the ones I use to visit seemed to bge more about flaming other posters than anything else).

MJBinNC For some reason it took me a while to visit Lostaways but when I did I remember reading your post and thinging this woman really cares about being the best Mom she can be and that just reading about her activities left me tired.

DrABauer very kind and smart and willing to go out of her way to help people. Gave me wonderful advice about my son and his future education and I can't say thank you enough.

Khan very opionated and straightfoward, two things that I really respect in a person. Always speaks her mind and I love that about her.

I wasn't here when Azteclady was a moderator only recently have I got the chance to know her. Right from the 1st post of her's that I read I liked her style and grace and her ability to deliver a nice little slap with tact. A true asset to any board.

Finally ILikeLostBrunettes- my first impression was hey, what's wrong with blondes? Funny and sarcastic ILLB reminds me of all the best friends I had at college. Always manages to crack me up.

I have to say that on the whole this is the smartest & friendliest forum I've ever visited (and the only one where I have ever felt self concious about my serious spelling problem for which I am sorry).

I'm afraid that my first posts here were argumentative and quite bitchy so my 1st impression probably wasn't the best and for that I apologise. Since then this has become the only message board I care to visit and I thank all you guys for making my little computer escapes so much fun.

A couple addendums:

16L43. I mean, how could you not love this guy right off the bat.

Bekka Sweet and sassy. First impression, and it's stayed.

ILF and ILLB I used to get them confused alot. I still do, but not as much.

Wanna Be Buddah sickened me from day 1.

Feigenbaum and LostaboutLost were my late night posting buddies last summer. I liked them instantly.

Thank you for all the kind words, guys - both as a moderator and as member, my interactions with you guys (and you know just who you are) have enriched my life.

Warty, I did remember that avatar and was hoping it wouldn't ever see the light of day again. Another hope dashed!

One major first impression change: Homer Noodleman. At one point early in 2004, as some old timers may remember, I engaged in a rather heavy debate with him over the level of moderation in T&S (I distinctly remember the expression 'heavy-handed' being used...). I kept thinking, "This guy is a major :censored: whose only purpose is to make my clucking life difficult!" Since returning to the community this past November, I've come to see how truly patient and funny he is. Here's to you and the giraffes, Homer!

Nothing wrong with strong women.....name-wise or otherwise. ;)

16L43 - I think MLHTY and I are in complete agreement in stating that this is one guy who we'd both love to sit down and have beer with someday. I was amazed by 16L43's posting from the very first one I ever read. He has a way with words that makes me pale in comparison.

OtherDruid - I haven't really interacted much with OD on a personal level but he's right up there with Warty, MLHTY, and SO many others who make me laugh on a daily basis.

ILF - What can I say? He's been everything that his first impression made on me. He's funny, smart, fun to talk to.....Don't worry Bekka, I think you're safe, I'm not trying to steal him from you. :rotfl:

Bekka - Wow, first impressions.......I didn't know anything about her when her name was brought up to be a mod. Before I could even read a dozen of her posts, here she was among us. Funny woman, easygoing, definitely an interesting person to know. :)

Oh, and there's no mistake those last two were mentioned together. ;)

I agree with the bump!

Ellaroo - Really friendly woman who always used to try and get me as annoyed as possible (and sometimes it worked). It was all in good spirits mind you and she's still one of my best friends in the chat room.

Kira1908 - The very first person to welcome me way back in August last year. Looked after me in the chat for the first few times I was there but has sadly not been around as much.

YouFirst - I was the first to welcome him! And he was a ray of shining light through the n00b influx which we went through, a good guy who's British through and through :P.

LostInHisEyes - Hey what can I say, the first time I walked in you were the life and spirit of the chat room. You were always very friendly to everyone and a very funny lass.

I know there's a lot more I have to do but I'm busy just now and just thinking of the first people I can remember best!
