ok, i am sure you all knew that she had said how she was a therapist. And Hurley knew her from somewhere.
But the scene of the two of them in the hatch, where she is being all flirty....watch it again....SHE IS TOTALLY PLAYING HIM!!!!!!
i believe she KNOWS him from the hospital and also KNOWS he is a lottery winner. and then she figures she can play all nice to him and if they get rescued, she can get some of the money. Not everyone on the island has to be a ncie person.
This is what i believe. I dont think she is a chubby-chaser...i think she is a gold digger!
watch it again and you will see what i mean!!!

I read on IMDB (I know, not reliable. This came from a poster on his theory who Libby is really), and this poster thinks that Gale and Libby are actually married, know who Hurley is because of the lottery, and have been tracking him down to get the money. Can you say, "Ha-ha"! That's a good one!

Some people really do have too much time on their hands. Sounds like that one needs to get out of Mom's basement and get some fresh air and sunlight for that pasty white physique! Wow.

You said pasty! :rotfl: Good stuff!

All these theories are wrong. Libby used to be a man that worked at the mental hospital. That is why Hurley recognizes her but he can't quite figure it out just yet.

Libby used to be a man
Cindy is the one who is a man. If you're going to try and bash Libby, at least make up your own joke instead of stealing the one I've been using in my war with Homer regarding Cindy, lol

Then again ... I'll have to take a look at that Cindy/Mick Jagger picture again.
It's about time they had some transgendered characters in television. It makes sense, Lost being such a groundbreaking television drama.

It's not a joke. It's a real theory and I never read your Cindy theory. Any similarity to theories old or new is purely coincidental. We will learn the Whole Truth soon that she used to be a guy. She/he probably worked at the mental institute where he met Hurley. Probably went by the name of Ralph or maybe Dave. Don't go bashing this great theory. :)

So Libby is short for Liberated?
I would think Billy myself. Transfer the b's and the l's.
For Wart's sake I hope that this theory fails. Imagine the horror of not only failing to trust the next woman he meets, but also the next therapist!:ImLost:

Being a member of this site has already sent 12 years of therapy right down the toilet, so I'm not going to waste any more of my hardly earned money on that crap.
Plus ya know... I've never known a therapist that wasn't in serious need of some help themself.

watch it again and you will see what i mean!!! I agree with you Johnny after watching episode 18. She could have been stalking Hurley since he was on TV. Knowing that he might be a bit weak minded having been in a mental institute thinking that she might be able to take advantage of the poor, mega rich chap. Something in the back of my mind makes me think she has a good heart though.
Post number 1, my cherry has been popped.

I don't think Libby knew about Hurley winning the lottery while she was in the mental institution with him. Hurley won the lottery AFTER he left and was working at Mr. Clucks. She may have started stalking him after she had heard about him winning the lottery...but who knows...

Well, she has to share him with food on a regular basis. :)

We know Libby was in a mental hospital w/ Hurley. She met Desmond and gave him her dead husband's boat. She is either what she says - a grieving widow who spent time in the ward after her husband died. Or maybe she caused his death - he was "sick." Damn sucks that she is dead but hopefully they will explain further because this is a great Storyline!
2nd theory - she is in fact working for the Dharma institute and Penny's Dad. She purposely met Desmond and gave him the ship knowing that he would crash in the Island prison where Penny's dad wanted him to go all along!

Couple of Libby thoughts:
1. Didn't she say her husbands name was "David", like Hurley's imaginery friend "Dave", who was bald (possibly chemo).
2. Has it been confirmed she's actually was on Flight 815?

It hasnt been confirmed that she was on the plane, but it has been proven she was at the airport when Mr. Eko and Charlotte (drowned psychic miracle girl) are talking. Thus, she must have been on the plane in order to have ended up on the island with the losties.

She was there on the beach kneeling in the sand when the little girl was pulled out of the water. AL asked her if she was a Dr. and Libby asnwered that she was a Psycologist and then asked AL if she was a Dr. and AL just said "no". Libby was wet and had been in the water.

It's just interesting to me how she gave that conniving look after she talked Hurley off the ledge and she just happens to 'give' Desmond the sailboat. It's a great use of a character and I can't wait til Sept.

There are three "Davids"
1. Elizebeth (Libbys husband) David, whom she says "passed away"
2. Hurleys imaginary friend "Dave"
3. Desmond David Hume (the prison guard said his full name)
Why all the sudden , so many "Dave's" ??

I suspect at least one of the Dave's is Libby's Dave.
Wouldn't it be cool if it was the 'imaginary' one?
I have a feeling we may learn more about Libby's husband next season. I find her to be an important character on the island. I suspect she is tied in with how they all got there, especially after watching the finale and seeing how she contributed to Desmond getting to the island, via her boat.

I could buy that! :)

I have always thought that the 'Dave' we saw was real at some point, but that Hurley took him too far as a delusion. When she said her man's name was Dave - I immediately thought of him, since we know she was also at the mental institution. Your take on it just gelled the whole theory Hodge, yeah I like it, thanks!!
Yeah, Dave is real. It would be very hard for Hurley to make up a character with such predominant features as that (baldness, roundish, freaky looking etc.)

I actually think that Penny and Libby are sisters. Libby either helped her father get rid of Desmond by giving him the boat, or she helped Penny by giving him a boat with a GPS so that Penny could find him again.
If Libby is working with the Widmore Group with her father, she may be helping him get people onto the island and giving Desmond the boat would kill 2 birds with one stone.
I haven't yet worked out a theory on why Libby was interested in Hurley, but I do like the gold-digger idea.

When I first saw Libby in the mental institute, I (with my insane imagination) thought that Libby was an undercover psychiatrist getting a first hand look at some mental disorders. But that doesn't make sense why she wouldn't tell Hurley that. Also I actually think that Penny and Libby are sisters. Libby either helped her father get rid of Desmond by giving him the boat, or she helped Penny by giving him a boat with a GPS so that Penny could find him again. I think that is brilliant. But why would libby and penny's father let libby go onto the island with the possibility of running into Desmond?

I remember reading a theory that Libby was at the Santa Rosa Hospital "for the slightly insane" on behalf of Dharma/Mittelos/Widmore/etc, to keep an eye on one of the chosen one's. Namely Hurley! :)

But the first time we see her, she looks really out of it. If she were undercover, would she be sampling the drugs? It would make surveillence very difficult, wouldn't it?

How many times have you seen someone supposedly taking pills, and putting them under their tongue, to spit them out later. I'm sure to many to count.

Sure she could have been putting the pills under her tongue, but she was sitting by herself with no one really looking at her, and she looked like a zombie with Krispy Kreme doughnut glaze over her eyes.

I'd have to re-read Bad Twin for the particulars but the two siblings..one good (i.e. works in the family business) and one a bit of a black sheep, is ringing a bell.
