Alex,
We know really little about her, but here is my theory:
Alex is working with Dharma, Ethan was done with Clair (and Aaron) so now he decide to let them go, maybe to infect the other survivors, but Dharma decide that it would be Alex who help Clair to escape, so that Alex will wins the confidence of our survivors and of her mother Rousseau (maybe she don't even know that her mother is still alive)
We have seen a screen cap from the maternity leaves that show one of the scientist looking exactly at the camera (some people say it's Henry) anyway the scientist has seen Alex and Clair but he didn't say anything!
It would also explain why Ethan and his "friends" where using torches and not the flashlights when they were "looking" for Clair.
Why would alex be against the others if she has been raised by them!

PS: Can Alex be considered a redshirt ?

Interesting question SonOfSawyer! I think she absolutely can. Well, maybe not a redshirt as that term is usually reserved for the 815s that are milling around behind the main cast. However, she's certainly a recurring character and this is the perfect forum for discussions about her.

Some people say that the others named her Jessica!

If Ethan let them go, why was he so eager to get her back to the medical hatch? I don't understand everything in your post, but are you saying that she has ben ordered by Dharma to save Claire?

However I think it is a good question to ask: why did she rescue her in the first place if she is "one of them", raised by the others?

Guess I'm more into "Guys where are we?"-stuff know, right...

Imagine Dhrama would want to see the baby grow with the survivors (an experience thing, we don't know why they are on the island yet)
If he just let Clair go she would eventually remember that Ethan injected her something and the survivors would have to put them (Clair and Aaron) on quarantine in the hatch, So the only solution Dharma had was to fake an escape and let them think Dharma made a mistake (just like the clothes in the medicine hatch), isn't this how a long con is made?
Yes Ethan was killed near the camp, but we don't know what his motivation was, maybe he wasn't trying to get Clair back, maybe he only came back for the list?

Ok, I see your point. But I belive Ethan wanted Claire and had to skip the list for now. Probably Henry is in the camp now to finish what Ethan started...

SonOfSawyer, I'm having trouble seeing the possibilities in your theory. That's not to say its' impossible. But, look at the incidents that followed Claire's return to the Losties.

Ethan corners Charlie in the jungle. "You bring her here. If you don't, I'm going to kill one of them. And then if you don't bring her back before sundown tomorrow I'll kill another, and another, another. One everyday. And Charlie, I'll kill you last." When she's not returned, Sceve is found broken to pieces. I honestly think Ethan and the "Others" wanted her back.

Hodge, I prefer to agree with you re/Alex. Believe me, I know a child can be raised with very different morals than the ones he ends up with. (This happened to me, in a way.)

I have a feeling that Walt is sitting in a nice room on a big sofa playing Playstation wile getting served lemonade by Zeke. Walt is now convinced that he got rescued from the raft in order not to get "infected".

I'm not convinced he saw them. Wasn't Jessica/Alex peeking through a crack in the door? Whoever that is looking toward the direction, may've heard something, but didn't see anything. And, went back to whatever he was doing before. JMO!

Sounds interesting. I can really go along with the thought that some of the children have left dharma, rebelled. Maybe they are the wispers in the woods? Maybe they have got people still infiltrating the others (like Alex/Jessica)? We can go on and speculate forever...and that's whats fun isn't it? ;)

This guy (maybe gale maybe not) has seen Alex and Claire getting out of the medical hatch, if Alex was an enemy to Dhrama why would he just let them go !

The doctor's garb, medical equipment, and 'vaccine' are theatrical props, and the OR scene was staged for Claire's benefit, just as the fire ring was staged for Jack, Sawyer, and Locke. (Imo, Desmond has been tricked into using the dummy 'vaccine' also, thinks he needs it to keep from getting sick).

We were clued into this both by the guy looking at Alex and Claire, and by the phony med label on the glue bottle.

Their motive is unclear. My only guess for now is they're trying to lead the Losties to some sort of conclusion or influence their perception of events.
As to whether Alex is a knowing participant or if she really believed she was saving Claire, I haven't a clue. I agree, Hodge, that it's great casting!

I think when I saw her on the episode Maternity Leave..I think that was her daughter...she looks exactly like her...great casting on lost and for the network...Cant wait to see how her story will connect to the others...and to her mother....this will be an interesting story....plus I read that she might be a regular..is that right?

there was like 8 screens in the pear, we have no idea what the others were watching 16 years ago...
And maybe one of the 6 teamates of rousseau was already an other before they came to the island.
We have no idea what is the story of Rousseau so almost everything is possible.

As far as we know Rousseau has only mentioned having one child, Alex the girl who spoke to Michael and helped Claire. She is an other....but there are no others.(no pun intended)

Jessica is the first name the writers gave to Alex before they change it to Alex, but Jessica Rousseau never existed :)

she's still a recurring characters for tonight's episode, but maybe she'll be back after this "mini season" as a regular, who knows...
