No, you don't sound anti english at all.
And for what it's worth ......there are no winners, only losers in war.
But you seem like a really grounded, sensible, worldly wise person, who doesn't make sweeping generalisations - so I guess you knew that already.
(Edited for typo)
aww this looked like a fun thread till all the country bashing began.
Another reason is because Ireland is Scotland's drinking buddy!

Ok, so far we have beer, beautiful girls, and green fields.
Did I miss anything ?
There's centuries of Irish history:
Naked warriors with their skin painted blue to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies.
It kept the Romans away.
Also: the Celtic heritage, James Joyce, and Michael Flatley.
Below is a picture of a Celtic cross that Saint Brendan the Navigator used over 1,400 years ago. It was a very accurate measuring instrument for long voyages at sea.
The Celtic cross was used by Irish sailors centuries before the invention of the astrolab and sextant.

I've never been -- it's way up there on my list, should the opportunity arise, but as I'm flying to Ireland, I'll be offering a rosary that the plane shouldn't crash and leave me never having tasted Guinness from a tap in a Dublin pub.

Speaking for myself, I enjoyed watching the Irish dance troupe when they made their debut here in the US.

Over recent years I've got the impression that he is held in higher esteem abroad than he is at home. He has been very successful as an Irish Export. Did I read somewhere that he caused a bit of a stir in religious circles in Ireland? Or did I get my wired crossed? (It wouldn't be the first time.)
I guess the US get Micheal Flattley and we got Ruby Wax in return. :p

That's probably the case.
My ancestors immigrated to America from Ireland and I guess I like anything that helps me make a connection with their homeland.
I'm not aware of any religious overtones that may have been caused by their performances.

we made the worlds best band U2,
And Flogging Molly (they're not the best, but pretty good)
Maybe the world's most overrated band. :) Seriously, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb sucked.
Rocky Raccoon

But you have to admire the rest.
Joshua Tree alone is enough for them to be the best band ever...
