Yes, I dont think that Boone would have done well as a good foundation. The dude had confidence problems. He needed to go to Island College before teaming up with Locke.

If by "college" you mean "tripping on crazy island hallucinogen" then yes. Although I guess thats pretty similar to how a lot of people experience college.
