View Full Version : U.K. people: Is Widmore an area of Great Britain?

I know that many of you are behind the U.S. in episodes right now, so I won't go into detail about anything (not that we have details at this point). But we've been curious about the name "Widmore"... does it ring any bells?

Widmore is not an area in GB, as far as I know.
There is a Widmore Road in Bromley (suburb of London), but that's about it, unless another UK viewer knows better?

Apparently it's a village down south, and as per island-maverick, it forms part of Bromley which is classed as Greater London.

mav: Yeah I found that "Widmore Road" thing on a quick google, that revealed some real estate sites.
Ellaroo, do you live nearby?
Is that area known for anything, anyone know? Like famous landmarks, special exports, and so forth....
Thank you everyone.

PandoraX, no I'm not familiar with Widmore, I'm a Northern Lass. ;)
If you try www.ukvillages.co.uk and search for Widmore, I imagine it will give you local points of interest etc.

There is a Widmore Road in Bromley (suburb of London)
Run a Google search on "Bromley."
In the UK, Bromley is a web designer, an office recruitment agency, a news site, and a college.
Not sure how relevant these findings are.
Also, Bromley is a ski resort in Vermont.

This is an excellent idea PandoraX! I hope it proves fruitful. :)
Widmore is around 45 minutes away from me, it's a town in Bromely (South-East London).
There is nothing I can think of at the moment that is exclusive/special to that town.

Sshhh...you'll end up getting sent on a fact finding mission Sevag.
Ah, well...it's Saturday morning now...if someone can wire me some lunch money and a train ticket...I don't mind :coffeedunk:
I've never heard of anything significant about Widmore. I have some friends that live very close though, I will drop them a line and see if they can think of anything. Why do you ask? BTW Are you sure the spelling isn't Widmoor? because that could be a whole different kettle of fish.

Thanks, HP, I hope so too....
Sshhh...you'll end up getting sent on a fact finding mission Sevag.
Sevag... so, what I need you to do is, randomly drive around town for 5-6 hours, and look for anything octogonal in shape, and take a high res photo of it. LOL... I'm j/k folks, it has nothing to do with that.
Badboy: I'd say but I think it would qualify as a spoiler to some people (though honestly it's not a huge deal except for one spoilerish point... we are kind of in the dark ourselves at this point in the new episodes). I'll spoiler tag it just in case for those who are behind us:
Damon & Carlton said there was something on an old Pink Floyd album cover (Animals)--a sign on a building in Battlesea, which would come to have meaning on the show. When people couldn't read it because it was too blurry, they said that the sign said "Widmore Construction". We didn't know what this could mean and speculated. In the most recent episode, a pregnancy test package said "Widmore Labs" on it. We're not sure what it means yet.

:rotfl: The worrying thing is, I doubt you'd stuggle finding volunteers to do that.
(And thanks for the spoiler tag... I know some people download but a lot of us are still waiting for S2 to aire in 'Spring'.)

Hi
I'm about 8 miles from Widmore Road, Bromley, I've travelled though it many times and It's a fairly typical English road. However, (& there's probably no significance at all) Widmore Road leads into Bromley High Street, birth place of HG Wells, Author of 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' & 'The Time Machine'. The reason I mention these Books is because more than once I've seen people discussing the similarities with 'Lost'.
Other notable residents also worth a mention;
Charles Darwin (Downe House, Bromley is now a Darwin museum)
Probably no help whatsoever but I thought I'd throw it in!

I've not seen any recent Lost, so I'm not aware of the significance of Widmore, but I think you've posted some interesting facts. I'm sure PandoraX will appreciate the info, especially as you have local knowledge of the area.
Welcome to the board by the way.

Well... those are some great potential allusions (and I mention HG Wells briefly in my Official List of Literature (Book / Author), Movie, TV, Song & Art References (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16085) also).
Of course, "Widmore" could mean nothing but some random name they decided to throw in, and not a place... and I would be barking up the wrong tree completely there (not the first time). But it never hurts to try!
Oh and googler, :welcome: also.

Googler, I love the avatar. David Brent is a legend.
As it happens I've just been re-living the pain of The Office S2 on DVD recently, and it's still as good as ever.

The Island of Doctor Moreau, could have possibilites. It's been a long time since I've read it, but if I remember the plot, it does have possibilites. "On a deceivingly beautiful island in the South Seas exists the sinister kingdom of Doctor Moreau. Shipwrecked in this seeming paradise, the unfortunate Edward Prendick stumbles upon the wild beastly creations of the sadistic doctor and enters into a bizarre and terrifying world of a doctor who plays an evil God and cruelly creates monstrosities of living creatures."

The Island of Doctor Moreau, could have possibilites.
If anything, it's a literary allusion to the purported genetic experiments by DHARMA.

Hello again
Even though we in England (the whole of Britain, me thinks) haven't seen S2, I've (shamefully) been reading all the spoilers & watching what I can so I'm aware of the allusion to Widmore (I'm so impatient & I can't possibly be expected to wait til the May broadcast of S2!).
I personally don't think Widmore has any sort of huge relevance but It's fun to speculate and I just love the learning curve this show sends people on! Even if none of the answers to 'Lost' turn out to be factually based, at least we've all had great fun speculating & learnt a whole lot more, for example, I know a lot more about - wave particles, portals, blackholes, buddhism, occams razor, schrodingers cat, electromagnetism & much, much more than I ever did before! Great for helping my four kids with homework!!
:thankyous to all those people that welcomed me so warmly & graciously. Actually, I've been stalking these boards for a couple of months now so I'm familiar with a lot of your names esp. PandoraX (I'm actually a bit of a fan of your & Yung23's ideas/theories).
Island_maverick - David Brent IS my hero :love2:

(I'm so impatient & I can't possibly be expected to wait til the May broadcast of S2!).
We know the feeling all too well.
S2 is drawing to a close over here and we'll be experiencing the same thing pretty soon.
Perish the thought.......shudder
That's why it helps to have a good board to discuss the show.
The message board takes on a much greater significance during the off-season.
Most of us would go completely nuts without it !!
Cheers, for now...

LOL... keith, I think Ellaroo and the others got this, but just to clarify... not everyone who can download chooses to, for whatever reasons (legal, want to stay with the rest of their country in the actually broadcast episodes, don't know how to d/l by torrents etc). I know some d/l, but I was just spoiler tagging it out of courtesy to those viewers who don't, since in that's why we have a separate international forum.
googler, we love us some stalkers around here! (That's some nice Americanese for ya, too) Though I feel kinda sorry for your kids now... hehe

Walt = that little dot on the road? Well, with stats that precise, I can't argue. :D
Thanks PP also... I'm thinking the Widmore as a location thing might end up being a blind alley also, but it doesn't hurt to check. :)
