hey gang - long time.
did you all see this "letter" at theblackrock.org?
http://www.theblackrock.org/module-ContentExpress-display-ceid-7.phtml

here's a link to a video inside it:
http://www.dharma.quantym.net/index2.php

at first I thought it was the same ol' fake hanso orientation from before, but it's not. Not saying it's real, just thought it was curious, especially considering this post I made in this thread a long while back:
http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=261991&postcount=1098

Oooohh.....this is some seriously GOOD STUFF!!

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

ETA - if you go to http://www.dharma.quantym.net (http://www.dharma.quantym.net/index2.php) you will see "Challenge One has ended" and the Swan Logo flash lightly really fast.
ETA2 - the original message to the user at BlackRock was sent by a "PL" - Per Lundquist
ETA3 - can someone PLEASE figure out how to save this video file, cause I cant, fake or not, I would like to have this archived

Peace,
Truff

Hey jocko. Thanks for that! :)

Interesting - I have an issue with the postage, that should of cost $4.05, with tracking $4.55. Unless Bryan made a typo in his excitement (hit the 2's instead of the 5's) you can't make a priority letter cost $4.22. Somebody could of put the incorrect postage on, but why?

Good work DM!!
That makes it look not so official, now doesn't it?
Interesting info in the vid...BUT....
I will say this again -
DO NOT PRETEND TO BE OFFICIAL!!!
NOTHING IS GAINED BY IT!!!
If you want to put your theories out there as part of the Webmaze, DO NOT try to pull the wool over our eyes - after what we've been thru, we will see right through it.

So.....this vid is hereby dubbed a FAN Creation until I see it on the show or on the Hanso site. I suggest yal look at this the same way.

Peace,
Truff

I wouldn't know about this, but it might be that some people here want to call it out as fan-created right off the bat because they don't want to get burned again. I wasn't around for most of the stuff that happened with the Webmaze, I just know a bit of the history. So it might be that we want to be believe it is by a fan. Or something. I don't know what I'm trying to get it. It's just there are multiple possibilities.

I think everything should be assumed fan-created until proven otherwise. But in defense of this video, some of the minor differences should be overlooked. Even the Eko-splice of the orientation film had differences from the film it was supposedly taken from...and that stuff is canon, so why should we be holding this up to higher standards than official products? Just trying to play Devil's advocate here.

Dion, no worries about posting in here. Everyone is welcome :)
I'm not so sure if that relates though. There is a thread in T&S relating to constellations/Apollo etc. where the Goblet is mentioned... I see that being the likely connection. Swan and Arrow are also mentioned.

And yes Emi, it has been a while, lol. I haven't seen you forget you were in Bork for a long time! :p

THE DHARMA INITIATIVE
5 OF 6
PROCEDURE

DHARMA-Goblet logo
PROCEDURE - STATION 5 - THE GOBLET

Greetings, I am Dr. Samantha Gray and this is the procedure film for station 5 of the Dharma Initiative
By now you and your team should be familiar with the history and current operations of the project.
You are presently located in station 5, also known as the Goblet and will remain at this post for the next 675 days. Your team will be conducting tests and collecting data in support of Dharma Initiative's aquatic research experiments.
Each morning, your team will be given a specific set of instructions through the microcomputer located within the Goblet station. These instructions will vary according to the experiment and data needs required for its particular test.
It is vital that you follow given instructions precisely with no variance in order to ensure the safety of your team and the success of the project. You are restricted from using the computer for any purposes other than receiving instructions and submitting accumulated data.
It is paramount that you do not attempt use the computer to contact the outside world or per (?) [cut here] repeat of the incident.
In addition to executing the instructions given to you each day, your team is responsible for maintaining the electrical containment field which confines test subjects within the marine research zone.
It is recommended that your team alternates between maintenance and research duty on a weekly basis. It is most important that the containment field not be permitted to fail. A breach in the containment field could place other personnel on the island in grave danger.
Subjects from escaping (word not understood) security system has been installed in a perimeter around the island. Although highly advised that you do not venture too far from shore due to [cut here]
Congratulations to you and your team. Your continued service to the Dharma Initiative is greatly appreciated. On behalf of the DeGroots, Alvar Hanso, and all of us at the Dharma Initiative, thank you, namaste and good luck

This last one is for background comparison from the new and the official orientation videos.

I have not made my mind up yet. A hoax is more probable. And the method seems very suspicious and as jocko pointed out, the source seems suspicious, too. Anyway I just tried to point out some interesting things about this "movie". I guess time will tell.

Holy Stromboli!!
At any rate, it sure was an interesting video!! I too am on the fence of whether it is fan-created or 'official...' maybe if thehansofoundation.org actually does get back and running soon as was mentioned in Jocko's letter, that will help to enlighten on the true source of this new video.

One thing that strikes me odd is that we do not have the good Dr. C. in this video. Maybe I mistakenly assumed he would be in ALL of the Dharma videos....from an acting standpoint, it was very obvious this lady was reading along and many of the lines she used are from the original 'authentic' Orientation video. These were reasons I became suspicious upon my first viewing.

This is a very well done fan video. Much better than the classification video that came out a while ago. Whoever made it should be applauded for getting so much right. The biggest flags for me are the acting and sound quality. The girl in the video isn't bad, but she's not up to network TV standards, in my opinion. Her voice also sounds as if it was recorded on equipment that isn't pro-level. The voice is a bit tinny, where Dr Candle's was rich and full. There are also a variety of small differences, such as the full-length lab coat as opposed to the lab jacket Dr C. wore. Lastly, I thought more details were given out than TPTB are known to provide. That to me is a flag of a fan going a little too far in trying to appear legitimate.

I'm very impressed with the number of details they were able to get right, however. The logo on the jacket looked great, as did the block with the goblet symbol. The room was not a perfect match to the one in Orientation, but it was close enough to possibly be somewhere else in the same facility. The splicing was handled well, and the sound distortions came out great. If whoever created the video reads this, I want to congratulate you. I'd also love to know of a way to obtain a nice, full-size version of it. :)

I also think it's fan-created. Well done, but fan-created. Were I to see the two videos without knowing canon, however, (or knowing that Dharma doesn't exist in the real world :p ), I would guess that this video was the authentic one simply because the majority of science-instruction videos I've seen contain soft and slow speakers. This is often for the aid of scientists whose first language is not English, and cannot understand fast-spoken English (Texans go in this category too actually). Knowing that Dr. Candle's video is canon, however, throws this off of "reality".

It also sounded to me like the cuts/holes in the sound in the beginning lined up almost perfectly, if not perfectly, with those in Dr. Candle's video. The odds of two filmstrips wearing out in the same places like that are close to zero, and I think the people behind the show would realize that.

Anyways, it was nicely done but I agree that the acting was wasn't very good. What did we learn from this video? It cover mostly what was mentioned from the Dr. Candles film with some slight info about it being an aquatic area. I smeel something fishy.

Say Im one of these people that make the fake movies like this...Like I probably would draw a map and find a lab coat and a pointer...and get a bad actress. I would splice the opening out of the swan video...bring it to photo shop take it frame by frame and add everything about the goblet...playback on a video system and add the "microfilm" style look to it. And finally splice the music...good thing Im not one of them...

I dont think so. She talks really wierd......like a second before each word. I doubt it is real. That would explain the security system. And maybe it is where the others are and how Walt talked to Michael. But she said like alomst the exact same thing as Dr. Marvin Candle. I count this video as a thumbsdown.FAKE.

i dont know if this matters but in the first film, the guy says "namaste" very low and with the proper accent. in this film, the girl says it all wiered with an english accent. i thought they would do a better job of that. you could totally tell they tried to do it like the last film.

I don't see why everyone is complaining about the acting of the nice lady with the big glasses, she was clearly not meant to be acting as it's just a informative video n the hatch they are located. I can't see this being real though as the writers of lost arent stupid enough to do the same storyline twice, (The Swan Station hatch & video). It could just as easily be fake as it could easily be real. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I haven't watched while paying attention to the dialouge, so I can't yet comment on that, but from the acting and the editing, I agree that this will not make its way onto the show. But the set looks the same and the editing is close enough to draw a resemblance. I think that this was created by the lost team but is an intentional fake. The girl's crappy acting was chosen purposefully so that people wouldn't take this as a legit video. That being said, the dialouge could perhaps give us some insight into what is going on. I didn't hear what she said about the map, but that could be something. I will post again later once I've watched it in its entirety.

i am on the side of it being fake... too many things that just ain't right... and not only the chances of finding another hatch with a film, but another film with missing parts talking about the SAME DARN STUFF!!! anyone notice the splice around when she was talking about contacting the outside world or whatever? IMHO there is no way it is real and TPTB would be stupid to use this in the show.

If we were to just entertain the thought that the new tape is real, which I seriously doubt, but putting that to one side at the moment do you guys think that it will be one of the "5 major events" in "Lockdown?" I think that if it is real Jack and Kate will find it in the jungle in "Lockdown."

I like it, seems to have continuity with the film we've already seen from the swan hatch...way better than the one that was done showing the symbols for all of the hatches. I think it could be real. My only gripe about it was that the imperfections in the film were almost exactly the same as in the swan film.

Not to mention, the Shark in "adrift" did not have the goblet logo on it...it had the solid, horizontal bar (Orion's belt?). I would think that sharks would qualify as being part of the "aquatic research experiments", although I suppose technically the shark could quailify as zooilogical...

Hmm.

Damon and Carlton did announce the big "webmaze" thing starting in May on the Podcast. Could be the start of some viral campaign to get it all noticed.

Though, you'd think they'd send one to Lost-TV as well.

That's not saying I think this is authentic, though. Just weighout out the possibilities. To me, it looks like a pretty amateur copy of the original orientation video. I'd expect a little more in terms of acting, sound quality, and prop consistency if this were done professionally. Also, I'd expect the letter to include a DVD or something with much higher quality instead of a flash file on a minidisc.

Anyway, if this is a hoax (which I'm pretty sure it is), it's a good one.

Hey all, sorry I'm so late to join in this discussion. I am Bryan. Better known as AstroJones.

I wanted to clear a few things up for you guys, and let me just say that I COMPLETELY understand your hesitation in believing whether this video is a hoax or not. I am not at all convinced yet that it isn't a hoax of some sort, but I want to do what I can to let you all know that I am not involved in it. Other than the fact that I got this in the mail and shared it.

Many of you have been looking around my site, dharma.quantym.net. I run the site, The Black Rock. In November of last year I started a game on my site, called the dharma challenge. It was just for fun. I never tried to convince anyone that it was official, but I did create a little lost "fan-story" to go with the game. Its a treasure hunt sort of game. If you visit www.theblackrock.org (http://www.theblackrock.org) you will see the description of the game. All game contents sit on my subdomain, dharma.quantym.net. This is the /private directory that was found, and the dharma flash logo at the root address that you see. When I received this flash video, I placed it on the same subdomain, so I could track hits seperately from the other stuff I posted about the video and letter.

As for the postmark, I am baffled about this one. There isn't one. I talked to the mail clerk where I work and he said he gets stuff all the time without postmarks, but it still seems VERY odd to me.

As for the logo on the envelope and the letter, they were definitely printed there, and not "actual" letterhead. The envelope is nothing more than a cheap security envelope, such as one you'd buy at a Walmart.

My biggest question in all of this, official or not, is why me? I don't personally know anyone who could create a video of this quality, so why would they only send it to one person and me of all people.

Feel free to ask me any further questions you all have. I'll answer what I can. I'm pretty much as in the dark as the rest of you. I do have some thoughts and opinions on the letter though. We'll see in time I guess.

Bryan - Why not you? If it is "official" do you think they didn't learn what a bit of mystery can do as far as publicity when Hodag sent out his picture? And with you hosting it there is no way to trace it back to any "official" sites. The quality and the acting were right on the money if your intention is to create controvesy about it. Bryan there are probably only a handful of sites that have the fan base and technology to make it work for them (an officially sanctioned ad agency or hoaxsters) and I think your site fits the bill perfectly.

I'm putting this to bed, all. Based on last nights episode, and the images coming out from the map today, I don't see any way that this is more than a fan creation.

Its been fun, but I'm to Map deciphering!! ;)

definetly a fake. her voice sounded to weird and it seemed like she was just reading off of something and she also moved around to much.

Not very surprising or anything, but Carlton and Damon confirmed in this week's podcast that it was fake, but encouraged people to do more things like this. They also said they wouldn't call a DHARMA station "The Goblet."

Not real, fan creation. If you remember the last episode 'The Pearl' is station 5 of 6.
