[28 Mar 06] :: Online Chat Panel with Javier Grillo-Marxuach
Come and talk live with writer/creator of The Middlman (Viper Comics), writer of Super Skrulls (Marvel) and former writer and supervising producer of the hit tv show LOST Javier Grillo-Marxuach.
The chat will consist of a moderated chat that will last for an hour and then be an open chat after the moderation has finished.
The chat will be on Thursday March 30 2006 at 10pm EST / 7pm PST
this was 100 % real. the transcripts will be up ASAP..
the comic site owner must post them first.
I took screen grabs as it went along, and we all asked questions related to Javi's own comics and of course, Lost.
(This is how they were able to get his Chat time, he was discussing his comic work and writing career)
AND he was also glad to discuss LOST !
"SPOILER CHAT" CAPTUREs !
THESE ARE MOST OF THE SCREEN CAPS I GOT.. the transcript is not up yet..
so this is for now.. sorry to post so much, it is chat. ( he he, chat, with JAvi !, awesome ! )
this was enough work as is, cropping out the important parts would have taken longer..etc
Javi entered, at this time it was un-moderated..
just guess what my first question was...
I missed the capture of me asking it, I was nervous, he had just come in..
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/1053/javilayer41ul.gif
then it became moderated..

Kudos to Yung23
THE WHOLE THING !!
later today, I will edit out the good parts to post in this thread alone...
but for now.. the whole Javi chat.
http://www.thecomicsreview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1607
btw, not only pay attention to the questions he chose to answer..
check out the ones he chose to ignore...
and look at how fast he responded normally...
(he knew he couldnt respond to some of the questions ie: like z2 ! I kept trying to get him on it, nothing, hmm)

yung, are you going to pull out all the entries relating to lost?
I missed the first few mins while I figured out what was going on, but from what I remember there was IWBL, truff, myself and yourself asking some fairly poignant questions - with very interesting answers from Javi.
It would be good to pull them in to a summary.
Alternatively, send me a PM and I can pull out the entries instead.
It was an awesome night, eh?
mav.
edit: Its too exciting - I'm making a start on the chat disection. PM me if we are doubling up unecessarily.
go ahead, right now I am too busy being a daddy..
but here is my favorite quote"
[22:06] <yun23> I dont know comics, but is it a good idea to learn something of quantum mechanics to fully understand the numbers ?
or am I crazy like lenny ?
[22:07] <Javi> yun - you won't have to know quantum mechanics to understand the numbers... but it wil help!

Ok folks, this is the disected chat with Javi. I took out all the non Lost chat.
For info, the Lost-TV people who took part were:
yung23, IWannaBLost, Truffula, Island_Maverick
I've packed everything into spoiler boxes just to keep it condensed and so you can choose which parts of the conversation you want to read.
The chat with Javi was a great experience. As well as offering the opportunity to asks some probing questions it was also a chance to see how warm and friendly the man is. He came across as very humble and seemed to enjoy getting down with folks in chat.
Muchos respect, Javier. Thanks for fielding the questions - we kind of hijacked the comicbook chat which was originally supposed to be about your latest, non-Lost related project.

[21:55] <yun23> javi, some artwork of my own, I love graphics etc, this is my lost tribute

[21:56] <Javi> that's pretty cool yun!
[21:56] <yun23> thanks
[22:06] <yun23> I dont know comics, but is it a good idea to learn something of quantum mechanics to fully understand the numbers ? or am I crazy like lenny ?

[22:07] <GlennH> WELCOME TO THE COMICS REVIEW ONLINE CHAT PANEL WITH OUR ESTEEMED GUEST FOR TONIGHT Javier [22:07] <GlennH> Grillo-Marxuach. THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE CHAT PANEL. PLEASE [22:07] <GlennH> REMEMBER TO BE CIVIL AND HAVE FUN
[22:50] <truffula> Javi, I would just like to thank you for all the wonderful work you've done with LOST, and would like to ask a question about Dharma. Obviously we're all talking about the Map on the Blast door; what I'd like to know is who made it, and why? It seems VERY important
[22:51] <Javi> truffula - well, i can't tell you who drew the map because it will be revealed later... but it was soneone who had to push the button everfy 108 minutes, so his explorations of the island were limited and a lot of what he put in the map is conjecture....
[22:52] <Javi> ...he was clearly trying to figure out where the other hatches were and had not been told...
[22:52] <Javi> by the way, i am THRILLED by how much attention the map has gotten!
[22:53] <Javi> by the end of this season you will know exactly who drew the map, why and what happened to him - i guarandamnteeit!
[22:53] <cmeade> i loved the map...spent an hour today looking at it
[22:54] <Javi> lol - there's already a five page entry about it on lostpedia! we can't put enough stuff on it!
[23:02] <GlennH> THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE MODERATED PORTION OF THE CHAT, WE ARE NOW OPENING IT UP TO FREE FOR ALL WHERE EVERYONE CAN TALK. BUT BEFORE WE DO I WOULD LIKE TO THANK JAVI AGAIN FOR BEING A GRACIOUS GUEST AND TO POINT OUT THAT MARIO WHO LEFT IS MARIO GULLEY FROM THE IMAGE COMIC ANT AND FOLEY IS ANDREW FOLEY FROM THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED GRAPHIC NOVEL PARTING WAYS
[23:02] <yun23> how many scientists worked beside the writers at lost ?
[23:03] <yun23> any ?
[23:03] <Javi> yun - we go out to advisors when we have science questions or history stuff (like hieroglyphs) but there aren't any on staff really...
[23:03] <yun23> so how often WAS that ?
[23:03] <rabidbat> Javi, are you doing any of the work on the LOST internet experience mentioned in this week's podcast? Is it like the game, I Like Bees?
[23:04] <Javi> rabid - that's classified! (i MAY have something to do with it...)
[23:06] <partyman> A quick LOST question Javi... when you recently paricipated in a writers workshop in Ann Arbor, you reportedly mentioned that "an upcoming episode" of the show would feature "the most pored-over, analyzed image on the show, ever", and that you were kind of responsible for the text. You meant The OMGWTFMAP?!?!!? yes?
[23:06] <Javi> partyman - absolutely!
[23:06] <Javi> that was the one.
[23:06] <yun23> how deep does gerard t hooft go into the science behind lost ?
[23:08] <Javi> who is gerad t hooft?
[23:08] <yun23> are Danielles maps worth the paper they are drawn on ?
[23:09] <Javi> yun - she is mentally... well... not all there, let's just sya they may be worht the paper, but the ink...
[23:10] <yun23> have you seen my 3d island ? is it what you have imagined lost to be like ?
[23:11] <Javi> yun - i try not to think of the totality of the island...
[23:11] <yun23> I cant stop it myself..but thanks
[23:12] <Javi> ...how about this, ana lucia will have a corss with at least one more lost character and who it is will surprise the living heck out of you!
[23:13] <Speaker> where is VINCENT?
[23:14] <Javi> speaker - vincent is very much around... he is, after all, the dog of doom!
[23:13] <yun23> do the numbers do many things or one thing ?
[23:15] <yun23> how about z2 ?
[23:15] <Javi> yun, the numbers have many meanings but the ONE most important meaning will be revealed soon.
[23:15] <Javi> or rather - the meaning most germane to what is going on in the island.
[23:14] <truffula> I just gotta ask this....Javi, you helped debunk the "bigspacehip1" website hoax when you replied on the Fuse about not knowing about a Website labyrinth. But I remember Damon saying that yal would be puttin out sites that you wouldn't take credit for....does XNA mean anything to you?
[23:14] <Javi> truffula - xna does not, sorry!
[23:14] <Summer> speaking of vincent....
[23:14] <Summer> will walt ever be brought back this season?
[23:14] <Summer> and michael?
[23:16] <Javi> summer - the walt story will be dealt with this season.
[23:17] <yun23> does phili K dick mean much to lost ?
[23:18] <Javi> yun - he means a lot to me, being my fave writer, so there may be some inflluence there...
[23:18] <mav> Javi, has some parts of the show been inspired by a kind of transhumanist ideal?
[23:18] <Javi> mav - not to my knowledge, although the darma folk do have a kind of extropian quality to them - don;'t they?
[23:20] <partyman> Jumping into the randomness with a cheeky LOSt question then....
[23:20] <partyman> Javi... "Threee Minutes" to what, exactly? *veg*
[23:22] <Javi> partyman - it's not a countdown it's the duration of an event.
[23:22] <partyman> ooooooooooooooooh!
[23:21] <Frank> Javi, do you guys have some huge season diagram with character arcs to keep track of all the complexity and continuity for the show? Your setups, payoffs, and reversals are more exciting than championship sport games!
[23:22] <Javi> frank - white boards in a conference room! it's all about the white board over at lost!
[23:23] <yun23> does vector space mean much to lost ?
[23:25] <Javi> yun - as much as it means to our dailiy lives?
[23:25] <yun23> moreso smokey
[23:26] <yun23> would you say smokey is half the creature it could be ?
[23:29] <mav> Javi, do you think Hanso and Dharma folk are still connected..or are they lone operators these days?
[23:29] <Javi> mav - hanso funded the dharma initiative!
[23:29] <mav> but is he still involved..?
[23:30] <Javi> mav - that will all be revealed in the fulness of time!
[23:31] <mav> I thought you might say that..... :-)
[23:31] <Javi> mav - well, it is a huge part of our backstory.mythology, but i promise a lot of that stuff is going to be illucidated in the near future.
[23:29] <DavidT> Javi, why did they they take the Hanso Foundation website down?
[23:30] <Javi> david - it's down fro remodelling, stay tuned.
[23:29] <Speaker> so - Javi - on the map - MDG is that M. De Groot?
[23:31] <yun23> what would you say to anyone who claims the show will not be answered by deep scientific ideas?
[23:32] <Summer> good question yun.
[23:32] <Summer> scientific or supernatural, javi?
[23:33] <Javi> summer/yum - have you ever seen a mass market piece of genre fiction that was COMPLETELY explainable by adamantine hard science?
[23:33] <Summer> erm... no.
[23:33] <Summer> :-)
[23:33] <Summer> but... you never know.
[23:33] <Javi> lol!
[23:33] <Summer> exactly.
[23:33] <Javi> you will have a LOT of science and spirit to chew on when it all comes out - and you will have to choose which to believe in!
[23:33] <Javi> man of science? man of faith?
[23:34] <DavidT> I remember one of the producers saying - before season 1 - that it wasn't supernatural, it would be explainable by science or "pseudo-science". Is that still the case?
[23:34] <yun23> I'll take the road les travelled, both
[23:34] <mav> The trade off between sciene and faith is fascinating in the show.....what was the inspiration for the duality theme?
[23:35] <Javi> mav - the internal struggle of all of us!
[23:38] <mav> Javi - it drives me up the wall wondering if events on the island are by default, like they take their own path, or whether something is trying to initiate it all.....I know you can't say, but I just wanted to get it off my chest
[23:38] <yun23> z1 z2 or z3 ?
[23:40] <JackLee> i've heard so much of the show and what caught my eye originally was something about the lottery numbers and yankees retired numbers, being a new yorker and yankees fan, my curiosity was piqued
[23:41] <yun23> does the island havea long history ?
[23:41] <Javi> yun - yep, much longer than any of us thinks.
[23:42] <yun23> did it form on its own accord ? or was it helped along by some force ?
[23:43] <Javi> yun - that's secret!
[23:44] <yun23> is "to catch a falling star ?" an island metaphor ?
[23:42] <emcee> Javi, my brother wants to know if you'll be writing the storyline for jin and sun's baby?
[23:42] <emcee> his favorite was the "in translation" ep
[23:42] <Javi> emcee - sadly, i am leaving the show at the end of this season, so no!
[23:42] <Summer> oh! javi.. will we see more of the smoke monster?
[23:42] <ericb> yeah. smoke monster has me intrigued
[23:44] <emcee> javi, you should leave your mark before you leave lost and kill off Jack
[23:44] <Summer> woah woah woah...
[23:44] <Summer> better NOT kill jack off!
[23:44] <DavidT> as long as Ana Lucia dies, I'm good
[23:44] <ericb> lol
[23:44] <Javi> guys - jack ain't going nowhere!
[23:44] <ericb> no one seems to like ana lucia...but you know what?
[23:44] <Summer> speaking of that... are her teeth real?
[23:44] <Summer> or are they verneer?
[23:44] <ericb> that's more reason to keep her
[23:45] <Javi> summer - they are "vermeer."
[23:45] <DavidT> those are new teeth, Summer - look at her 1st appearance
[23:45] <Summer> javi, eeew.... I knew it.
[23:45] <Javi> summer - actually, i have no idea
[23:45] <DavidT> Isn't it odd that so many of these island folks are killers?
[23:45] <truffula> one more question from me.....are Oceanic and Dharma connected?
[23:46] <Javi> truffula - not that i am aware of.
[23:46] <mav> what about Paik, will he be more involved later?
[23:47] <Javi> mav - paik is involved in a lot of things, but not in the way you might think.
[23:47] <Summer> will we see more of the hatch's around the island?
[23:47] <Summer> aren't there like 6?
[23:48] <Summer> I think the others are moving from hatch to hatch.
[23:48] <Javi> summer - i don't hink we'd have put them there just to ignore them!
[23:47] <Frank> Javi, have you read the elaborate Lost theories posted on Entertainment.com's site lately?
[23:48] <Javi> frank - i try to stay away from speculation!
[23:48] <Frank> Heheh, good policy!
[23:48] <Javi> frank - it helps us all!
[23:48] <Frank> http://www.thecomicsreview.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
[23:49] <Frank> Does the LOST team feel it would be a major blow if someone spoiled the secret? Do they have a "plan B" or "plan C" just in case?
[23:50] <Javi> frank - no one but the creators of the show know ALL the secrets.
[23:49] <Summer> speaking of that... javi, who is your favorite character to write for? :-)
[23:49] <Summer> and why.
[23:50] <Javi> summer - sawyer is the most fun, obviously, but i love witing for sun and jin.
[23:50] <Summer> yes, sawyer's quite the character. I'm kind of disappointed he turned to be such a jerk.
[23:51] <mav> sawyer is a superb character
[23:51] <Summer> but never know.. he might see the errors and change.
[23:51] <Javi> summer - but most people love him because he is a jerk.
[23:51] <Summer> eh...
[23:51] <Javi> everyone on the island has a chance to make themselves better.
[23:51] <yun23> when will the redshirts get another voice ?
[23:51] <Javi> yun - lol! dunno - arzt was pretty cool though.
[23:52] <yun23> till he exploded
[23:53] <mav> Javi, is the history of the black rock important, or is it more the fact that it is just there that is more the issue?
[23:53] <Javi> mav - both.
[23:53] <mav> wow
[23:53] <Javi> look closely at the map for more black rock info
[23:53] <yun23> is hanso involved with the black rocks owners history ?
[23:53] <Javi> there is a MAJOR clue about that in the map.
[23:54] <yun23> magnus hanso..
[23:54] <Frank> Javi, have their ever been discussions for flashbacks on old island inhabitants, like Adam and Eve, or the chained slaves on the Black Rock?
[23:55] <mav> Javi, will there be a flashback for the island - it seems like it needs one
[23:55] <Javi> mav... wow, that would be a challenge.
[23:56] <mav> well, it does have a lot of history I guess - so maybe more than one FB!
[23:57] <Frank> Javi, will the dates on Jin's resume be changed for the DVD?
[23:57] <Javi> frank - i don't think so, it was a mistake and we are gonna live with it!
[23:57] <yun23> will lost explore time warps of anything remotely like that ?
[23:58] <mav> Javi, is the continuity of the show maintained to perfection - or can some things slip in - like the brand new wachine machine in the hatch - mistake or intentional?
[23:59] <Javi> mav - i can't speak about the accidentality of THAT (maybe it came in a resupply drop!) but we are only human, we do make mistakes.
[23:59] <Javi> all right everybody - time for me to go - one more question... anyone?
[00:00] <ericb> what is the meaning of life?
[00:00] <Frank> How is it that you're so good to the fans compared to everyone else on the show!:!?
[00:00] <mav> Apollo - anything in that?
[00:00] <yun23> its been an honour javi
[00:00] <Javi> eric b. try to avoid fatty food, read a good book every now and then and try to get along with people of all races creeds and colors.
[00:00] <truffula> no questions here, just really psyched I got a chance to chat with you....you ROCK!!!

Woah, the bit about finding who drew the map and what happened to him being revealed in this season is cool. Desmond is really unlikely, Kelvin is a possibility. Maybe it was Henry Gale (The real one)? I think the illustrator of the map probably did the wall mural too, they are quite similar in a way. Perhaps (real long-shot but I'd love to see it), Desmond comes back for food or..something..and we get a Desmond flashback on the island showing what happened to Kelvin and how the map got there. Or something. I just loved Desmond.

seems to me like the line about danielle's map not being worth the paper but the ink is a clue that maybe the survivors will put the map under a blacklight and see something new...
ps: yung and islandmaverick, thanks for this... what a cool thread!!!

:Hugglepounce: to you guys, and to Javi for using the word "adamantine," spelled correctly, in chat--I knew the man was a genius. Seriously, short of trapping him in a dark alley with Eko and the Jesus-stick...
:( that he's leaving the show after this season. I hope that doesn't mark a turn for the worse.
Jack lives. Ana Lucia goes one on one with Vincent, or Rose, or someone.
The map being the work of one person is interesting. Everyone seems to agree "Desmond" is a rather dull answer...though I suppose he could have torn off to explore all the places he couldn't reach in 54 minutes as soon as he had another button pusher.
A while back someone had a cap of the overhead shot in The Hunting Party, and speculation that Walt was at the back with a thing on his head and a guard, and Desmond at the front holding a torch. (You couldn't tell, but both were possible.) Perhaps everyone will be appearing when we find the question mark?
Hey guys!
Thanks to those who came by the chat!
Perhaps we can schedule another one.
Javi, said he had loads of fun!
here is a direct link to the transcripts.

Like yung said, I think this was the most LOST fun I've had so far (aside from watchin the show, of course)!!
And I really hope they do another one, cause, yeah, now I have all kinds of good questions too.....I was practically shaking last nite I was so excited "OMFG I'm ACTUALLY in a CHATROOM with JAVI!!!" was all I could think of.
Thanks to mav and yung for posting all this transcript FIERCENESS!!!
And super special THANKS to Yung for gettin me into that chatroom in the first place!!! YOU ROCK, MY MAN!!! :D
Peace,
Truff
um, I do have one more llittle question..(in my best Columbo voice)..
When will Damon do this ? ( not that Javi wasn't enough!)
good job mav !
you even put them all in tags , and we are IN spoilers !
i don't think Javi really gave many spoilers...if any really...
do you guys?

Chris, thanks for setting the chat up at http://www.thecomicsreview.com (http://www.thecomicsreview.com/). It was superbly hosted and nice and relaxed. You could tell Javi was at ease. Good work.
As for your questions....well, I think he gave away more than you think.
It was more a case of the answers he didn't give revealing the odd clue.
And there were some interesting answers relating to the map, the island and the black rock, kind of like clues or half answers to give us some new direction. Namely:
The Island has a history longer than any of us can imagine.
There is a clue to the Black Rock and Hanso tie-in on the map.
Paik is involved in a big way, but not as we might think.
And the top answer, in my mind, is the quote about it being helpful (but not essential) to understand quantum mechanics when trying to appreciate the numbers. That kind of adds a slither of validation to yung23's threads which try and explore the field of quantum mechanics in relation to Lost. Previously, yung had taken some criticism that it had no relevance.
Thanks again Chris.
mav.
Thanks yung for bringing this up and mav for the detailed breakdown. I'm going back to re-read.
Oh, c., I don't think he gave a lot of Spoilers, but he did give a bunch of clues/ideas. I guess it depends on how deeply you search into everything he said. Great transcript though, thanks everyone involved!
Excellent thread.
Well done guys :iloveusig
Plenty of things to think about now.
Ah...Jack...well, I have to put up with him for another season I guess :scared:

[23:20] <partyman> Javi... "Threee Minutes" to what, exactly? *veg*
[23:22] <Javi> partyman - it's not a countdown it's the duration of an event.
WOW...This type of statement make me believe that the countdown timer is also not a countdown but a duration of an event. This would makes the satellite-passing-every-108-minutes theory still valid. That statement is getting me to believe that perhaps there is a 'Stargate' type portal that will close unless the button resets it every 108m.
BTW: Thanks Yung and Mav for doing this it is much appreciated. Knowing you Yung there must have been a thousand other questions you would have liked to have asked that you didn't think of until afterwards. We'll just have to keep a log of all the questions we need to ask, so the next time we can go in guns-a-blazin'! Thanks again guys!

i'm glad he said we will find out the (well one of the) meanings
of the numbers!...thats goona be fun to see....
i wish i would have asked more Lost questions myself actually..

Hey C., I would like to thank you for letting some of our Lost members to kind of hijack your comic chat for Lost questions. Very cool of you and it is much appreciated!
OK, considering this is such a hot thread right now, I'm going to sticky it. Hope I don't lose anyone. ;)
Crandy, thanks for the compliments, i just wish we could have advertised it before hand better...but Javi's schedule is a bit full, so i understand him agreeing to do it just last week(even though we talked about it for months!)
Javi is one cool cat, and i also hope that his leaving the show doesn't hurt its quality, i know some of my favorite episodes are by Javi...but not all of them!
Leuthen....wow..thanks for the sticky!! i am a frequent user of this site but i never post...i'm like the ultimate lurker!
anyway, the chat would not have been as fun without those of you (from here) who came by....

Thanks C. As to reveals--loads of hints. On the door alone, we know
1. One person made it (I'd say popular opinion is running to two or more).
2. That person guessed for many parts, so it may not be accurate. Kind of like asking Danielle stuff.
Oh, and the ink in the black light? As in, when they figure out how to get the blast doors down, Locke has Danielle's maps to try and square them with this map, and more messages appear? Genius! Though it could also mean simply that they're semi-accurate.
3. Who and why revealed this season--that's amazing, I would have expected this to drag out 2 more seasons of slowly finding and deciphering bits.

Indeed! As well it should be! This is the best thread we've had with TPTB in a long time and I love it. Thanks again to everyone who brought it to the rest of us!
Oh, Truff, GREAT avatar! I was thinking the same thing during last weeks epi, "That would make a great avatar!" :)

OH MAN. I'm so jealous, guys. :p It was the one night I didn't go on chat because I had something else to do... warning people, this is what happens when you start to get a tiny bit of a life... you miss out on the GOOD stuff! :D
mav thanks for pulling out the parts that are important about LOST... saved us some wading through the longer transcript. Glad you guys REPRAZENTed us well ;)
BTW, I'm posting this on the numbers forum & www.lostblog.net (http://www.lostblog.net) so that the envy can continue...

Pan, thanks for the thumbs up on the disection of the chat - wasn't sure if it would be something people would be bothered about but the response has been good so glad it was done.
Of course, we have to thank Chris Meede at thecomicsreview.com for tipping-off yung, who then tipped off all those he could asap before going in to chat himself.
As for myself, I apologise to any that I had the opportunity to alert and didn't, but it was 3.30 am for me and I had just been woken up by a noise outside and couldn't get back to sleep so logged on. Soon after, when I got the manic PM from yung about the chat link, I was still in blood-shot vision so I clicked the link and went in. I saw two or three others from Lost-TV in there, so assumed others had been alerted already.
Sorry Pan, and others, for not alerting more people. And to be honest, when I got in, I was so gobsmacked that it was actually happening, it evaporated from my mind that others might not have been alerted. And as I said, I was slightly fazed out by still trying to wake up. Anyway, enough of excusing my selfishness. Next time it happens (which it might...) I will send out the claxon!
Pan, nice post on lostblog.net. The more that know the better!

I think the only person it would surprise me for Ana Lucia to go one on one with is Hurley.
[23:12] <Javi> ...how about this, ana lucia will have a corss with at least one more lost character and who it is will surprise the living heck out of you!
"have a corss"? What's that mean?
"Cross". Just a typo.
you guys did well , Yung seems like he answered more of your questions then any others. I like that he brought up the Black Rock, makes me feel it is a Alvar ancestor buried there from back in the Black Rock day, a long time ago. very cool all of you that were there, it was better that not that many people knew only because it wasnt cluttered and understandable as sometimes happens in chats.

(In Simpson's comic book guy voice): "Best thread ever!!!"
Ana Lucia: Her cross is with....sigh....Claire??? Sigh...
I think the best part about the interview is that he was acting like the answer is totally normal, and nothing you have to be a nuclear physicist to understand. I mean, that wouldn't appeal to 99% of the viewing audience, anyway, so why do something over their heads?
Thanks for the post.

I want to thank all the people who came to the chat we had a great time hosting it for you guys. Also to Javi for being such a great guest and sharing some cool teasers.

Wow, what a great thread. I just read it for the first time and need to go back and do it again to get the significant parts; I think there is a lot to be found. Amazing to have a chance to talk to the person that had a big part in the development of the map. My first impression is that the quantum mechanics answer doesn't mean much, I think he is saying that ones ability to understand it is rooted in keeping an open mind and thinking outside the box.

04-02-06, 01:15 AM
A thought on the cross--maybe it doesn't mean fight, but pre-island connection? As in Desmond or Zeke show up, and Ana Lucia shrieks "YOU!!??!!!"
can someone remind me what "3 minutes" is and what the z3 stuff was about?
3 Minutes is the title of episode 22, the last before the finale. If you click on the spoiler forum (I'm guessing you might have come in through a thread link) the top has stickied threads for all episodes we have titles for.
z3 is a reference to the blast door map--there are coordinates(?), I think x4 y8 z3--don't have it in front of me, but there are screen caps in the blast door map thread in GD.
ETA on quantum mechanics: Conjoined with another quote from TPTB I saw yesterday, about there being a sound science reason for something (the monster specified? don't remember) but it was so obscure and complex that it would come off as pseudo-science if they tried to explain it, I think it means Yung is on the right track. e.g. a redshirt looks at the cloud and says "why that's a bunch of quasiparticles! Let me explain quasiparticles..." (Sorry if I remembered the term wrong, but it's Yung's theory.)

Lostboy, I think a "cross" is just any time a character either knowingly or unknowingly crosses paths with another character in a flashback. It usually happens in the background, which leads you to watch the background instead of the foreground in a lot of scenes. Kind of like Airplane the movie, really.
btw, the Z3 thing was me trying to get any reaction from JAvi regarding quantum numbers..
( i think ours are Z2, isomorphic and symmetric quantum numbers, they MERGE, they unite, they cancel each other out)
& since he never asked what they were...

"Dog of Doom" is quoted by Javi when taling about Vincent.
Did Vincent cause the plane to crash?
Or does vincent cause bad things to happen?
I think there are other speculative threads about this...

"Dog of Doom" is quoted by Javi when taling about Vincent.
Vincent seems pretty important to the storyline. The producers have made strange comments like, "Vincent will be appearing in episode 219 and the finale" (why is Vincent's presence important?). Also; when JJ Abrams was asked, "Tell us a secret of Lost right now!" during a talkshow he replied, "Vincent is female" (whats that got to do with lost?). Maybe they are leading us on, but i 've been thinking for a while that Vincent is an Other-dog or related to the unusual animals surrounding the island.

calling javi..
come out, come out
Javi's announcement:
...two years ago - almost to the day - i was hired on a start-up television series called "lost." the gig was supposed to be two months at staff writer pay to work with a small think-tank in developing the long term arcs of a show that had not only not been picked up to series – the pilot had not been written!
four months later, i sat in the audience at the san diego comic-con, watching "lost" with an audience of three-thousand - stunned by how quickly it had gone from a glimmer in jj abrams and damon lindelof's eyes to one of the best television pilots i have ever seen... and, ultimately, a popular-culture phenomenon.
two incredibly exhausting and eventful years, seven scripts, forty-eight episodes, a shelf-load of awards, several convention appearances, many great friendships, hundreds of messages in "the fuselage," and one hanging hobbit later, the time has come for me to leave the island.
so, come the end of the season, i am on the raft.
the obvious question is - of course - "why?"
the simple truth is my work is done. as television series change and evolve, so do the things they require from the writers and producers in their staffs. i have contributed everything i had to "lost" and now the time has come for other writers to step in and make their own contributions in their own voices.
I pride myself on being honest in this forum and am being completely so when i tell you that this parting is mutually agreed upon, beneficial to everyone involved, and - most importantly - amicable.
yep. amicable. go figure. it actually does happen in hollywood.
how amicable? "lost" and its creators are a huge part of my life, and while we all agree that it is time for me to move on to write and produce other shows (maybe even one of my own), let's just say that i may be the rare castaway who not only gets to leave the island, but also gets an invite to visit on occasion. it's an exciting prospect.
As a founding member of the "lost" writers community, i know for a fact that i am leaving this show a better place than i found it, am proud of the work i have done, and know that my employers feel the same way. the people for whom i have worked the past two years are truly extraordinary - and i leave grateful, fulfilled, happy, and - truly - want nothing more than to see the series to which i have given (and from which i've gotten) so much continue to flourish.
now that we all know this, there's something else you should know...
...i'm still not telling what the monster is!
