OK, I posted this in theories where it most likely doesn't belong, so I thought I'd bring it here and everyone else can join in the fun! This is the "create your own LOST scene" thread.
Mine was inspired by BC's joke-suggestion/theory here:
That's odd because I remember discussion of a project at UC-Davis called P.E.A.N.U.T.B.U.T.T.E.R. involving suggestibility of eyewitness testimony to outside factors such as interviewer prejudice, pain medications, previous incidents of reported alien abduction of the subject and the color of the interviewers tie. I don't remember what the acronym stood for, but I do recall that the researchers were later indicted for fraud for their activities in a bogus campus gambling scam.
Well, that might explain this scene, which I've always found awfully bizarre...
