Maybe the numbers are how many survivors there will be at the end of each season. They'd only have to kill off a few more this season to get to 42.

Pretty ridiculous I know, but hey. Anything could happen, right?

THis has actually been talked about alot in the Numbers Thread. It seems like a cool idea, but when you factor in that the numbers were in place for years before our castaways got to the island, and they've worked on other people like Sam, it somewhat discredits this due to the fact that this because a very self centered theory (self centered in respect to the group of castaways that we all know and love)
