Are you Aussie? If not that comment is a bit on the racist side.....

How in the world do you figure that that comment is racist?

It's not racist, just utterly tasteless.Only non-aussies would make light of one of Australia's darkest hours.Shame,shame,shame.Don't like the accent, then say so.Don't make childish comments.

I don't even know how to begin to respond to your comment.

First of all, you calling the death of a baby by dingoes "one of Australia's darkest hours" is absolutely absurd. It's utterly preposterous. How can you compare that to the World Wars? Or even the recent Race Riots? There are so many terrible incidents in Australia's history; that one incident in 1980 bloody PALES in comparison. Your comparison is tasteless.

Secondly, people make fun of tragedies all the time. I agree it can be vulgar sometimes. But making fun of certain events loses its taboo over time.

1) How many people complain when someone makes jokes about the French surrendering? Being terrorized by the Nazi's wasn't fun for the French, why is it funny for some Americans? This joke comes up everywhere in pop culture, in schools, on the street. It's pretty much not taboo anymore.

2) What about when someone says, "He went all postal on me"? That joke/expression is a reference to a tragedy where a Postal worker killed several of his colleagues. Yet most people have accepted that as meaning "crazy" or "irrational".

3) How about the recent shooting involving Dick Cheney and his lawyer friend? Apparently Dick thought it was a quail. This incident has been made fun of to no end in the media, but Dick and the lawyer aint laughing.

4) What about the Clinton jokes? If what he did was serious enough to get him impeached, then why are we joking about it?

What you need to do is lighten up. Did you write letters to the producers of Seinfield when Elaine said the exact same thing on the show? That's right, she said it right on Prime Time television and thousands of people laughed.

Hmmm. It's amazing how we sometimes provide answers to our own problems.

You know what, I started this thread as a joke. If haters didn't like it, they didn't need to come here and post, including you.

I'm not the one calling people tasteless, childish, even racist. Or telling people shame on them.

A joke is not a joke when it's not funny.

I apologise for MY stupid comments.

But "darkest hour" is relevent. In a small nation, the death of a baby, the resulting media circus and the fact the mother was innocent but went to jail for two decades doesn't exactly make it a feel-good story. It might not be as grand as other nation's miseries but aussies still haven't forgot it.

Once again, i am sorry if i have offended anyone.

Rascist against white people....I like it....I like it....:rolleyez:

Come on it's a fooking joke, you all are so uptight for some reason. Just picture it in your head....

Claire: My Baby!!!

Charlie: hehe Maybe a Dingo ate your baby

....and if you don't think it's funny....then just don't comment

Ok, so the whole rascism against white people thing's been dropped....but now it's TASTELESS!?!? *MSN suprised smiley face*

The dude's right, dingo's don't compare to Japanese invaders.....

Andrew23,

I am so glad that there's one person who actually saw the humour in my joke and the outrageousness of all the hating responses I got.

It blew my mind when people starting calling me racist, then tasteless, then a mod comes and tells me to lighten up. I felt like Adam Sandler when he was on the plane in "Anger Management."

Lol, thanks.

Have nothing intelligent to say? Just take a quote out of context, then smile and nod. Works every time.

...the fact the mother was innocent but went to jail for two decades doesn't exactly make it a feel-good story.

Actually i think you'll find that the evidence was inconclusive, she was only set free because the evidence was re-examined and she wasen't proven guilty. This was because most evidence that could have proven her guilty was lost because of the time. She still could have done it.

Anyway, as soon as i saw this i thought it was funny. I burst out laughing, jeez guys if you can't see the humor you need to lighten-up

Btw, i am Australian

The Original Stupid Comment + Overeactions X Accusations / Defence of Comment = A funny thread for the wrong reasons

Homer Noodleman

Oh man, this is getting out of hand. Now you've gone an done it. I just received this email complaint about this thread:

------------------------------

Dear Mr. Noodleman,

We are writing to complain about a thread called "Maybe a Dingo Ate Your Baby" which is posted in the "Emilie De Ravin - Claire" section of the Lost-TV forums. We cannot believe how tasteless and prejudicial this thread is, and are astonished you allow the villifiaction of an entire innocent species take place without a word of protest.

Why is it a dog like Vincent, which is enslaved by humans and denied its natural rights, glorified while a dingo living in its natural habitat is villified and mocked in a most degrading manner? We demand an end to specism, starting with the locking of that most disgusting thread. Dingoes have feelings too, they suffer when injured and shed dingo tears when abused. We demand you stop the humiliation of the noble dingo and close that thread immediately.

Further, we demand you pressure Disney, ABC and the Producers of Lost to stop the exploitation of Madison, the dog actor that plays Vincent on the show. Further, we demand that a public apology be issued for traumatising Madison, a female dog, by forcing her to play the part of a male oppressor.

Yours,
Camille "Moonbeam" Gleeson,
Executive Director, S.A.S.S.A.F.R.A.S.S.
(Speak Against Sickening Slavery And For Respecting Animal Species Society)

Yikes!Call the authorities and roll out the troops. If i knew defending a dingo's dinner was going to go this far, i wouldn't have bothered.

Now that i've brought the wrath of the S.A.S.S.A.A.F.R.A.S.S.A(close enough)down upon my cowering head, i would once again like to apologise to john1234, the rest of the lost forumees and the "noble dingoes"(tell that to the baby).I too can see the humour, but i didn't think it was laugh out loud funny, though some are more macarbe than i.

P.S- A little out of context, but has S.A.S.S.A.F.R.A.S.S considered enlisting the aid of the show's cast in ending the plight of Vincent/Madison?Every other charity seems to enlist celebrity aid nowdays that it's only natural a cast member should dive in to help,no matter how odd the cause.

I didn't find the whole dingo thing funny *shrug* I will admit that errm...I think it was the second post, calling someone "Racist" does not apply to this thread. Prejudiced? Yes. Racist? No...well I don't think. Anywho didn't think the joke was funny but other people did so there you go. We are allowed to laugh on here ya know people ;)

That was a funny joke
I also hate Claires annoying accent. Actually I hate her too....maybe we will get lucky and she will save Charlies life and die in the process......Three Men and a Baby anyone....more Sawyer/Jin/Hurley jokes :-)

Her accent isn't real Aussie anyways. I think the producers just wanted to create the effect of an Aussie on the island. Come visit us someday, and you'll see that we don't sound anything like Claire.

i laughed because it reminded me of Seinfeld, if you really thought of this as racism then I dont know what to say lol, maybe spending too much time on the internets? In no way, shape or form is this even remotely close to a racist comment/thread
