View Full Version : LIW and boonian's commiseration thread

The coolest character of season 2 has been transformed into a button-pusher. No more kicking ass. No more taking on smokey. No more flaunting God in the face of the island. Just button-pushing.

If you would like to commiserate, please join us by posting.

TPTB, I hope this is very temporary.

I agree, they ruined John Locke, he was the coolest thing ever in Season 1. He had this mysticism about him, cool, confident, all-knowing. Now he is neurotic shambles 2nd guessing everything. What have the writers done to John!

Do you mean Eko?

It looks like Eko and Locke have reversed roles somewhat.

Agreed. You have 2 very cool and very mysterious characters. Why not exploit those traits? Instead, TPTB have basically reduced them to invalids. I hope this is just a calm before the storm, so to speak.

The island is doing what Tony Soprano's mom did to his dad. As Tony put it:

"Dad ran his own crew. He was tough. And she wore him down to a little nub. He was a squeaking little gerbil when he died."

I hear Ekos of the hatch sounds. Eko is an echo of his former self.

Thanks for including me! And you didnt have to push any buttons to do it!

I have already chided Eko in the character threads and have---do you believe it?---suggested that Charlie was the bigger bad-ass! At least Locke freed himself from his splint and hobbled off into exile. One character victory at least. Godspeed Locke! Hope you find your paradise! Or at least explore the island....

Ecko's still a bad ass. He's gonna have to beat the crap out of Locke at some point.

he's gonna beat the crap outta Locke next week, or at least he's gonna try. I don't think this is the end of Eko's badass-ness, not even close.

Or Charlie for not toting Eko's things to the hatch.

Maybe Charlie bouncing off the wall is due to an "incident" with a "Jesus stick"

Hey! Be nice about the previews to those of us who are more enlightened because we aren't blinded by them. ;)

Please.

I'm not a big Charlie fan. But he showed courage twice tonight. Gotta love that (even if he is a dweeb).

Charlie showed signs of redeeming himself as a good character in my eyes tonight. When Vincent brought the Virgin Mary statue to him I thought "No... no more of this drug-addicted Hoobit storyline..." and then the following scene was like a promise from TPTB.

And Locke.

We need more commiserating. Eko is pressing buttons. Dont tell me that that's a promotion! It's...wrong!!!!

To quote Eric Cartman "It's wrong ... and it's wrong."

I don't think this is going to last so I wouldn't worry about it unless season 3 starts with the alarm going off and Eko pushing the button.

From your fingers to TPTB's eyes.

Just wait and see what they do with the character. One minute he's the coolest character in season 2 and the next minute his character is ruined because he's pushing a button? It's been one episode. I'm not saying TPTB aren't going to mess things up, but I think it's a bit early to start wagging fingers over Eko.

I remember saying to Boonian ...that Locke found himself a fellow button pushing dishwasher...Hey look one can wash and one can rinse...knowing Boonian he was already thinking that anyway(as were others) another victim of bad 2nd year writing.

I don't know. I think millions of Lost viewers taught them a lesson. I think TPTB are pulling our leg. I doubt they'll make the same mistake with Eko they made with Locke.

But until they prove it, I'm commiserating.

I dont think that it hurts to send evil vibes out to TPTB that any prolonged Eko button pushing will not fly. Particularly into season 3. Season 2 is done and written. Fine. But no Eko or Locke hatchwork in season 3. None. Zilch. Nada.

I think this is needless panic, guys. For one thing, Locke finally ditched the splint and crutches tonight. There's no reason to assume that Eko will be any more confined to the button.

Hang in there. You're just bein' impatient. :)

I'm actually psyched: I want to see Eko pursue the source of the magnetism, though I'm not assuming it'll be this season.

Has everyone forgotten that they are "saving the world" by pushing the button? Who would you want to save the world every 108 minutes, Eko or Charlie, Michael, Jack, Kate, etc? I don't care what that video in the Pearl hatch said, pushing the button is VERY important.

I hope we can lose the button thing next week. It's been proven the suggestions of what it can do can manipulate the Losties into pushing it. Get Locke outside. Get Ekko outside.

Eventually, doesn't Ekko have to have a dream from Yemmi where he encourages him to be a Christian soldier? A lot of biblical figures went to war. We need the dark heart of Ekko to catch up to his considerable cool and flash the violence every now and then.

"Don't tell me what I can't do!!!"

It is a sad day - Eko the pussy button pusher. Eko has his faith, I have mine. It's gonna get a little boring down there. He doesn't have Desmond's ping pong table, or the old records, or the mojo to keep himself awake. I have faith, that at some point Eko will rewind the recordings, and watch Michael starring in the Texas Chain Saw Murder. Then Eko will become a bad ass again....unless he get too emasculated during the summer hiatus.

Yeah. If changing Aaron's diaper every 108 minutes was considered "saving the world", that doesn't mean I'd want to see the most badass character doing it. :D Button-pushing just seems so ... emasculating. Domestic. Every time Eko pushes the button, he is performing the act of a drone, a peon, a toady.

I doubt he'll be pushing the button for very long. There's no room for redemption in front of a computer doing mindless work.

ok I don't want to get on a rant here, but I keep seeing someone post a reply saying "be patient" for whatever reasons whenever I post about bad writing going on.I'm sorry but bad writing is bad writing. I don't need to wait a few episodes to see if the writings bad. it either is or it isn't. I think alot of people agree that certain characters have fallen prey to the writing blahs this season. :drinky: ok now I feel better.

Oh, I certainly wouldn't argue with you on this point! The writing this season has been extremely disappointing. No way around that fact. We've seen our favorite characters reduced to depthless figures. Even now - the one character that had great potential is being brought down to being a button pushing do-nothing.
*sigh* We can hope that it makes an upswing. :rolleyez:

In the words of EKO, "Praise the Lord!" Can't tell you how thrilled I was to come to the boards this morning to see a positive thread about EKO for a change! Here of late his character threads have been languishing. There have also have been numerous attacks on his character as well as his past & present actions. Personally, I'd been mulling over the idea of starting my own thread hoping to revitalize and regenerate interest. And like many of you have expressed, I've not been very happy about the recent emasculating of EKO by TPTB.

THE SIGHT OF EKO PERCHED ON A SWIVEL CHAIR, BIG, SAVAGE-HANDS POISED OVER A KEYBOARD WITH THAT DEMENTED GRIN ON HIS FACE IS JUST WRONG!

Things are completely out-of-balance. Surely, something is amiss. Like other posters have expressed, I do have faith that the old non-verbal, sullen, brooding and savage teddybear will be back for the finale. For my part, I have also been sending bad vibes and extremely negative energy to those responsible as well as those who have shown disrespect to what was once a great man.
Every little helps, eh?

Eko should go fight the others! Then he could kick some serious butt. I think if him and Locke both became non-button pushers, but still island-answer seekers, and if they were friends, it would be the coolest thing EVER!
