View Full Version : Light in capsule tied to the numbers (purgatory/hell)

If the whole purgatory theory has any validity, the light in the capsule makes perfect sense. Purgatory is a place somewhere between heaven and hell, and in the traditional sense you look down to hell and up to heaven. When you are in purgatory you are given a set of "challenges" to meet in order to prove yourself worthy to get into heaven. So when Locke was on his knees looking at the capsule and saw the light - after making Boone climb into the plane and all but killing him - Locke was, quite literally, looking into hell (hell = fire and brimstone = ligth from the capsule).
This ties into the Numbers episode in that when the numbers were used by anyone their lives went downhill fast. We also saw that the numbers were on the capsule - indicating that the numbers may, in fact, be the code to hell.
So when Locke saw the light, it was just the island telling him that he was closer to going to hell than heaven by failing one of his challenges in purgatory.

purgatory would be valid however the show's writers and just about everyone on this board will say that is has nothing to do with it. So unfortunately that cannot be the case - but i'm w/ u that it could add up to look that way.

Just 5 posts and you write about purgatory?
Man you haven't read any posts before posting this
Aren't you afraid of sounding repetitive ot unoriginal?
What you have to do is search if there is already an open discussion about the topic you want to write before actually posting anything.
It's common sense really, You can't discover the Pacific Ocean a million times, right?

Of course I know about the theory - I was just relating to how the light and the numbers tie into that theory.
And no, I'm not going to waste an hour "researching" other posts to see if something has been written yet.

161 posts you'd think by now you would check your spelling before posting. Chris I liked your idea and tend to agree that the light signified locke doing something that the someone or something wanted done. Kinda like a hug from mom in a sense.

I will agree that IF the purgatory thing was a possibility (it's not, the writers have said so) then your theory makes sense.
However I do have an issue with the above comment you made. I have been here for a while and even I will "waste" time to make sure I am not duplicating a post because it sucks to see duplicates over and over again.

Sorry If you misinterpreted what I wrote.
I didn't mean to be rude at all.
What I meant is that if you come to post is because you want to share your ideas and see if someone else thinks like you, right?
Well, I see like this, if you come into a place where many people is already discussing that idea, the logical thing to do is to join their conversation.
Although this may not sound like the normal thing to do I think it's the polite way of doing things.
"Forgive my apologies".
