The key to getting off the island - speculation

Is it just me, or is the key to getting off the island killing Locke? He is definitely connected to the island in some way (perhaps he "sold his soul" to the island during the plane crash to survive) and that the only way to defeat the island is to kill Locke.

Thoughts?
