View Full Version : + Alex on the radio?

For those of you who missed the preview of next week's new (YEA!!!) episode, you can download it here (http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=2&min=10&orderby=titleA&show=10).

Since it's been broadcast I don't think discussing it would be considered spoiling, so here are a couple observations:

a) The plane is a Beechcraft Model 18 (photo here (http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/Beech/model%2018.htm)).
b) The voice that responds to Boone at the end of the clip sounds a lot like a teenage boy's...Alex?

Any thoughts?

Good observation Coyote! I re-watched the preview a couple of times last night, and tried to place the voice. My guess is if it's not Alex, then it's somebody from the Black Rock(signal tower).

I didn't think the plane would crash into the island while our survivors were there, I thought it was there for a while and Boone finds it. It was strange to see it flying.

i concur, VERY strange/surprising to see it flying. good call on alex although i wonder why he/she would respond to the plane transponder and not dani's broadcast distress call.

Great catch, Coyote. I missed that last "Hello" on the preview last night. Thanks.

Man, I love this show.

Any thoughts?

First thing that comes to mind, was not that it is Alex, thought it could be.

I was thinking of the "Whispers" in the jungle that Sayid and Sawyer heard.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, the whispers have been transcribed and there is a thread in Discussions. Try this link: New infor on the whispering voices (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm2.showMess age?topicID=1767.topic)

My question is this. Who answers a radio signal with "Hello" ? That seems so odd to me. It sounded more like a young boy answering a telephone. Any thoughts?

Sorry, I'm mentally handicapped in the linking department. I try but it doesn't work. The whispering thread is in discussion, page 1.

Wait. So there is a new episode next week?

I thought we had 6 weeks of no new episodes?

1. Thanks for the link to the correct plane. I had to hold my tongue (or, fingers, actually) on another forum when someone, referring to the plane on the preview video, exlaimed that it was a Lockheed L-10E. Yes, Gracie, that's Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan failing at their circumnavigation attempt 67 years after embarking on it.

2. I suppose it could be. Is the preview trying to play it off as being a woman in the "outside world" responding to Boone's distress call? It seemed that way to me, but I was very sleepy.

Coyote, you may be on to something! It did sound like a young voice, if there's such a thing. And, Alex would be around 17, if he was born on the island, and stolen at birth (this is my theory).

Poppycup asks:

Wouldn't someone without radio etiquette/knowledge answer "Hello" if it heard a transmission?

Why would someone be flying such an old-fashioned plane out in the middle of the Pacific?

Coyote1066

I know the answer, and you can too if you want to be spoiled. The spoiler link is here (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm8.showMess ageRange?topicID=402.topic&start=21&stop=37). I would just wait until next week though...I kinda hate knowing.

Well, I don't look at spoilers - but, I did look at the Beechcraft link that you posted. So, we have an outdated plane flying above a tropical island and about ready to crash land. What type of plane does Kate have ? The toy one with the missing propeller ? Do we have a match ?

Coyote1066
03-25-05, 05:50 AM
It's a DC-3/C-47.

So Kate's toy plane is amuch newer one while the one that crashed was pretty old....and moving pretty fast, I guess I never think of old planes going very fast, but I doubt the plane's speend is worth noting.

So in Boone-like fashion he makes a long distance dedication to his mom but forgets to ask for help?

when boone was on th radio telling whoever abut them being "...... the survivors of a crash of oceanic 815..", did the voice respond "there were/are no survivors of oceanic 815". did i hear that right?

Coyote1066

Yes, they responded "there were no survivors".

Curse those misleading promos! *shakes fist*

Honestly, I heard this preview on the radio today ("They thought no one was looking for them....they were wrong") that had me thinking that the plane that crashed was some kind of renegade rescue attempt.

Okay so it's not a sure thing that Alex is or was Ethan, right? I want to believe Ethan is dead, but everyone here seems to think he is definately coming back! GER I'll save that for another thread...but anyway...I didn't quite catch what the transmission person said, but lots of people seem to think it said, "There were no survivors." I think the transmission person was strange, I mean, if someone said they were stranded from a flight I don't think your first reaction would be a straight, "Oh no, they are all dead." Something's fishy...:\
I don't know what to think...

Okay I'm done...

Also if no radio waves can be broad casted off of the island. Per the French womans transmission. Wouldn't that mean it was someone else answering that call. The same people that control the transmission now.

I have now listened to the mp3 of the transmission up at the ABC site several times (link below), and I think it clearly states "WE'RE the survivors of . . ."

Alex is the french lady's missing child. We dont know if the child is a son or a daughter though. Or maybe child was a nickname to something else like a creature or experiment. Maybe Alex is the hatch thing.

Coyote, want to rename the thread?

For those curious enough, there are two threads in Generel Discussions on this topic:

Well, I think it's time for the show to get better audio equipment - the radio transmission should have been a lot clearer if this is a key plot point. It should not take two days for viewers to decipher what the other voice is saying back to Boone. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Edited after reading other threads:

I see all of these phrases listed - which one is it ?

1 - There were no survivors
2 - We're the survivors
3 - Where are the survivors
4 - We are also survivors

LostInWilderness

I just played the mp3 and the voiced sounded to me like it had a slight French accent. I also believe it said "there were no survivors..." I couldn't judge the age, so maybe it is Alex.

Listen closely to the first thing that the voice says before the plane falls off the cliff. he shouts "BOONE!" Now compare boones' voice to the voice in the transmission, they are very similar.

I don't care what any1 says, I believe in the parallel universe theory and the fact that Sawyer is reading A Wrinkle In Time bolsters it.

I had to reply to my own message because I just listened to the link on the website to the audio and it is not the original. Some1 did a hack job of putting their own voice into the audio. If you have it TiVo'd or taped I suggest listening to the original.

The voice clearly yells "BOONE!" before the plane crashes

Hi runloganrun

Maybe the transmission was so hard to understand cause they want to keep Boone with that information until the season finale. The next episode he will still be unable to talk.
The last 2 episodes will be like a parallel of the 2 pilot episodes: A hike to find the others....

Gee aren't we all dying to see that? :)

LoStMyMiNd
04-02-05, 05:26 PM
I thought the voice that yells BOONE just before the plane crashes was Locke's voice. And.....instead of the voice saying hello, I heard it say "no"...."were no survivors of Flight 815". I can still here it in the link without playing it and it was not Boone's voice or anyone's that we know of. But maybe it has been doctored because Locke's voice didn't sound like his true voice either

I've downloaded the ep and it is the same transmission as that preserved in the mp3, which was just equalized differently. To my ears the respondant has a West coast accent (which is why I think some people say it's Boone), but the lilt that confuses "we're" with "there" is a mark of surprise.

Hey, but don't take it from me. I just have a lot of experience transcribing from bad recordings.

My Thoughts:

Are you guessing what comes next or posting spoilers ? If you are talking about spoilers, then please STOP ! I do not read them. Boone appears to die next week - unless they are throwing us a curve ball. If we are not supposed to hear the radio response then why was it closed captioned ? I am really upset with the writers/sound editors at this point.

I'm not an English philologist, just studied classical languages in college, so I cannot be sure which one of the possibilities is the right one.

The voice very clearly says "we're the survivors of flight 815" and the tone is incredulous and made as a statement, like he didn't believe another survivor was on the other end of the transamission
