I believe that whatever landed Desmond in prison was likely orchestrated by Widmore and/or Hanso. I have a hard time believing that Pen would be so stuck on him if he had done something heinous. I think his reference to "lost honor" didn't mean that he had dishonored himself, but that in others' eyes they believed he had done the bad deed and people didn't view him as honorable.

So what is everyone's consensus on Desmond surviving? I really hope that he does, the flashback was amazing and the Penelope storyline seems very intriguing and promising for the show.

Desmond is a true hero in my book. He figured it all out, turned the key and saved the world...again (all the time knowing that he was possibly sacrificing himself). That's a hero.

There is just no way that he is dead.

The producers, I believe, were signalling the direction they are taking the show in Season 3 by placing Penelope's scene at the end of the finale. Her quest to find Desmond will continue next season. And I just don't think that the producers would make us watch her strive to find him if he were already dead. It would just be too painful (and un-suspenseful) to watch.

TPTB said that even though her character is DEAD, Libby will be seen in many flashbacks in S3. So seeing Libby and Desmond together in the coffee shop and her giving Desmond her hubby's boat, makes me think he'll be back too

I hope that what we said in the spoiler tags is correct or pretty accurate. I'll be bummed if Desmond doesn't return for S3 in real time, not only in flashbacks. I'm kind of bummed that Libby is dead, I would've loved to see Desmond "find" her on the island.

ILBL - The snow -- they were monitoring the POLES for magnetic activity. That is why they were in antartica. Penelope knew that the island had a magnetic anomaly or device so they were trying to locate the island by monitoring magnetic activity around the pole. I hope that makes sense.

Alot of people are optimistic our Desmond survived because of the introduction to Penelope's storyline. Let's clean to hope!!

I heard that just now also. I remember them making similar comments before the season 1 finale about Arzt, saying he'd be in season 2 and such, and, then, well......but this time, Damon for one sounded like he just COULDN'T leave that plothole open regarding Desmond's past and his possible future relationship with Penelope.

The podcast info that Snakey & Aggie mentioned is encouraging. Unlike the Arzt character, Desmond has a major plotline potential in light of Penelope and we know she will be back next season. I'm optimistic he will be back -- maybe he won't be right away but eventually!!

The comment is discussing Charlie saying to Claire during the finale, "They aren't back yet" when she asks about Eko and Locke. What do you all think? Further proof Des is still with us? Well said! I must say that I'm very anxious to find out why he was discharged. I know it had something to do with not following orders...but I want to know what the orders were. They must have been very important to land him in the slammer. Possibly something about keeping some sort of Dharma, Hanso, or Widmore military type secret? I dunno, but I'm loving this guy. I didn't really even start liking him until the Finale. The only thing I really liked was his looks and accent. Now that he doesn't act like such a nutter and I'm able to see his story and why he's the way he is, I LOVE him.


This is supposedly a confirmation, which I saw at Lostpedia.com. It says that he's been confirmed to NOT BE DEAD. W00T!

Supposedly they're exploring Libby's backstory, even though she's dead. I can't see them doing that for two characters, though, which, if that spoiler is true, that makes me think even more that he is alive. Exploring both Desmond and Libby from "beyond" would be overkill.

I think you`re right Aggie. I can`t see how they would not explore Libby`s backstory, and like you said, exploring both of them from "beyond" would be too much. Both of the characters seems to me to have unfinished "business" as far as their backstories goes, which I hope means Desmond is still alive :Cowdance:

Welcome Des! Not much new Desmond news - the hiatus will likely prove slow for us until we get towards spoiler season in August. Keep your eyes peeled everyone!! Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I was reading upstairs a few interesting Desmond related threads. One in Polls inquires whether Sarah, Jack's wife, had an affair with Desmond. (he is one of many choices). Being who I am, ;) I could NOT support that theory as our wonderful hero Desmond would surely not be unfaithful to Penelope!!
