View Full Version : Speculation about Claire's baby

Hi, everyone. This is my first post on this forum.
I've watched all the "Lost" episodes.
I think that when the survivors find Claire, she won't be pregnant.
And her baby will be gone.
She won't have any memory of her time away from the other survivors, or of her time with the Others.
And WE will all pull our hair out, as the series gives us a new mystery... where is CLaire's baby.
I think that's possible, because a baby doesn't really fit in the whole situation and it would be an easy way for the producers to avoid this "how do we raise a baby on this island" -thing.

I actually kind of hope this happens, for the simple fact that babies don't make for good TV. However, mysteries do. I think this is a very plausible option.

Kenny : welcome...I get SO into the episode...and the chat...I haven't ever thought of CLAIRE surviving and the baby disappearing. Actually...in the very beginning we all thought the baby would die. Then we thought Claire would, and the baby would survive. But the other way around? hmmm...stick around and keep posting!!

That's a good theory...but maybe she does remember that she had a child but she can't remember what happened to him/her. Like with Danielle, how she asks where Alex is.

I've got another theory about Claire's baby too.
Another thread talks about the island giving the survivors "what they want" subconsciously.
Walt wanted his dog so it showed up. Probably because he is a child and therefore more in touch with his ID or something, the island gives him other things, like polar bears, rolls of the dice that enable him to win at backgammon, etc.
Jack subconsciously wanted to resolve his Daddy issues, so he saw his father walking around the island after he was dead.
Locke wanted his legs so he got them back. Now he knows how to "turn off the rain" as he showed Boone because he understands the secret of the island. Maybe he also traps so many pigs for the survivors to eat because he knows how to wish for them so the island will deliver them.
Charlie got his guitar. Locke wished it. Somehow, he knows how to "talk" to the island to get what he asks for. Didn't he get Walt's dog back? The dog whistle thing was probably just a cover-up to explain how he got the dog to come back.
So what about Claire? Her baby wasn't kicking at first, then a day later, started kicking again.
The baby was actually dead after the plane crash but then the island replaced the dead fetus with a living one it created.
The Others want the baby because they want to study it to see what an infant "created" by the Island would be like.
The Others are the people living under that metal plate in the jungle Locke and Boone found.
It was no accident that Locke's flashlight hit the metal plate - he wished for the Island to show him where Claire had been taken.

What I love about this forum: Smart People.
Hawkmistress: never thought about the things appearing because the castaways wish for them. Hmmmmm. Good idea.

" She won't have any memory of her time away from the other survivors, or of her time with the Others. "
Good call, KennySe -- and with your first post, too. :-)

I don't know that I agree with the statement made about Claire's baby dying after the plane crash and being replaced by another fetus from the island. There is no other word for that but preposterous.

when Claire was found by locke and boone, could anyone tell if she was still pregnant?
Do you think Locke knew Claire was going to be there? Because from my experience people can't hear dog whistles :p
I mean it could've been Claire heard them walking, yelling, or it could've been coincedence, but im not sure....
KennySe- good job :D

Everyone else is saying that she's not pregnant anymore, but I'm quite sure that I see the black buldge where her stomach is.

I agree that Claire's baby is an important part of the plot, so there's no way they're letting it die or letting Claire die.
I don't think the hatch leads to where the others are hiding hiding because Locke or Boone would have seen one of them coming out of it at some point.
Has anyone thought about the polar bears more? If walt is unintentionally making them appear then why did they have to shoot one early on in the season before he had seen the comic book? Maybe Ethan had seen the comic book?

Maybe, 3rod, because the bears are real and Walt isnt "conjuring" them up.
Yeah, theres no way were gonna get much info from Clare. Ethan or whoever wouldnt just release Claire when she has that much crucial information, without drugging her or erasing her memory or s/thing.
I'm surprised that no one has discussed the psychic--- and how he said that no one else must raise the baby. We all know he knew this flight was going down, and purposely made her get on THIS flight. Why? And how is this going to play into the plot? Ideas? I do agree that Claire is no longer pregnant and will probably reveal what the psychic said. Did she ever mention that to anyone on the island? Maybe she will have lost her memory and Charlie will have the diary-- they'll have to use the diary for clues about the psychic and black rock... OH it's too exciting!
Also, does anyone buy into the "sickness" of the island? What if Locke has the sickness and maybe Claire got it from her little adventure. Maybe that's why Locke seemed to be surprised to see her come out of the woods. He also thought that Ethan seemed OK. What if those with the sickness don't notice anything's wrong with them or other sickness carriers?
Thoughts? I'm addicted!

She could still be swollen from the birth. I still looked pregnant for a month after I had my son.
In another forum, there's speculation that Ethan is Alex. Have there been any discussions about that here?

The thing with Claire's baby and The Others wanting the baby is very reminiscent of "Rosemary's Baby", don't you think??? CREEPY!!

woah! i just had a thought...
you know how Danielle wouldn't answer Sayid when he asked what gender Alex is. well maybe it's because Alex was stolen when Danielle was pregnant with him/her and then returned (just like Claire) and hence NEVER KNEW the sex of her child! now that's evil...and would certainly help to drive you mad...

Reviving to add link to drabauer's most excellent Psychology of the Characters and Psychic Events Theories Index (http://www.swedishpoet.com/lostpsych.html) for those who wondered, earlier in the thread, about no one having discussed the psychic.
And for those speculating about Claire's pregnancy, there's the Is she still pregnant? (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm28.showMes sage?topicID=34.topic) thread in her forum.
