Okay, I just got the all clear on starting this thread. Let's see how it does.
Well, Scott is 815 and I have had a “British Crew!” title in our siggie for a while now so I thought I’d take a chance with starting a club (Scott had the idea but he was too scared to start the thread :p).
So this thread and club in general is basically about celebrating and practising British stuff. This can be anything from; boasting about England winning the World Cup in ’66 (until someone from Brazil comes and slaps the sass out of our posts :p), discussing our Royal family, drinking tea, or even better – drinking beer and watching football! The most important thing is here is to have fun, joke around and enjoy the community.
Let me just make it clear that no prejudice of any sort will be tolerated in this thread. EVERYONE is welcome and you can even covert to Britishism if you wish! (I’m not sure how Scott and I will go about the conversion but we’ll think of something. ;))
Fingers crossed for this thread getting a decent response. :)
ETA, 07/09.06:
We have new allies! The Cluckers and the Brit Crew have combined to make the Brit Cluckers! Together, with our crumpet eating, beer drinking and patriotic clucking we are an even better bunch!

Anyone can convert but of course a few slight changes need to be made to the person.
1. Your 3 main meal are (in order), Breakfast (or brekkie), Dinner (yes thats dinner at dinnertime 12.oo noon), Tea (at teatime 5 or 6pm)
2. Buddies are now your friends or mates. Do not refer to them as buddies. They will think your weird.
3. Color is now spelt colour
4. Your alcohol cossumption must double.
5. Soccor will be known as Football or footie!!!
TheTempest
06-04-06, 08:00 PM
Maybe you should give us all landmark names..
Like...

Now those are some good ideas. Could I trust you to come up with the names yourselves? Nicknames would be best if they were suited to your personality or had a British twist to your username. Tempy's is easy, if we saw that in the form of grafiti on a bus stop it would be TEMPAZ 2k6! :p

There will be no needles for Dharmit as a reward for giving to the needy! She shall receive immediate initiation into Britishism! The British Empire recognises this sort of giving. ;)
Haha this thread is actually working!

Oh that reminds me,thank you is now obsolete.
Cheers now does not only apply when drinking. Infact try to use it as much as possible. Usages include "Cheers mate", "Cheers for that man" and " Nice one, cheers".
Or jazz it up by throwing in a "ta" instead, such as "Ta very much".
You'll never use thank you again.
Oh and you dont ask someone for something you say "sort me out". Ie. "Sort me out a smoke lad", "Youre gf has a hot mate?? Sort me out!!"

Moaning about the weather is a good one. If it's too cold (which is almost all of the time), you complain about how all the other countries get the sun and then go on to rant about how you want to move to Spain...
Then it gets hot and you complain because you're not used to it and you're sunburnt.

True story. When I was in grade school they decided to introduce soccer to our gym classes. I suppose they thought they were expanding our horizons or something. Anyways, attached as us Yanks are to our opposable thumbs, the notion of kicking a ball rather than throwing it was quite alien to us.
The result was we actually couldn't control where it would go when we kicked it, particularily if members of the other team were in the vicinity interfering with our kicking efforts. Sooner or later this situation always led to a massive group of us clustered about the ball wildly kicking as we tried to get the damn thing to go somewhere.
It wasn't too long before we figured out that kicking the opposing players in the shins was actually the winning strategy. So, we gave up kicking at the ball and just gleefully kicked each other. After a couple of gym sessions our teachers noticed half of the male population of the school was limping around, and that was the end of soccer in our gym classes.

I listen to a lot of their rally/spirit/motivation songs, and I remember them always saying "Oi" a lot. Cheers!

As a 'brit' I feel it my duty to post on this rather splendid thread. I presume I gain automatic membership as a life long Englishman. I'm thinking my nick name will be the British Lion, though I must confess I'm a football man, not a rugger man.
Whilst here and on the subject of ol' blighty, I must enlighten you to the fact that approximately 0.1% of Englsh men and women speak how you plucky old Americans would expect. I can't blame you for thinking so, as every English person in a US movie speaks as such. This is of course when they're not playing the villain. (Americas favourite English part!)
Another general misconception that I must clear up is that English people don't have bad teeth! I'm not sure where this all started, for the latest generation I think I'll just blame Austin Powers.
If only we still ruled the World we could have these misgivings 'seen to'.
Anywho, this leaves me a little more room just to shout about our favourable chances in the World Cup. Starts this Friday!!! *Releases a small bit of wee* ...apologies.
COME ON ENGLAND! COME ON ENGLAND!

all my Canadian friends strongly deny they've ever heard a Canadian say, 'oot and aboot' -- however, I did see a news story based in BC and there was a Mountie - big and bold in his red coat and Mountie hat - and he offered a line something like, "...we were aboot to make an arrest...," and I mean, there was no mistaking - he said 'ah-boot' - so there, Canadian friends

POTUSA is a Seattle band. Very active in the community. Back in 97 they played a benefit for the Northwest AIDS Aliance called "Care To Dance" in drag, billing themselves as "The First Ladies OF the United States of America". A friend of mine was there and hshe said they rocked the house proper.
They broke up for a while back in, I think 99. Chris Bellew said he wanted to move on to other projects. Right about the same time, within a couple of months, another Seattle band, Soundgarden broke up because singer Chris Cornell wanted to do other things. So the wag in the Seattle music scene was that the town's 2 biggest current bands broke up at the same time for the same reason: Chris quit.
I recall remarking "Thank God there's nobody named 'Chris' in Pearl Jam."
What do you guys think of the ban on the st georges cross

Is it me or did Last of The Summer Wine always just feature a group of pensioners sliding down a hill in a bathtub?

I loved Ricky Gervais' cameo on The Simpsons this year. You guys get The Simpsons over there? Talk about classic.

I'll admit, there are times I watch episodes strictly out of tradition. Still, so much better than most of the crap on t.v. these days. Except that bloody thrilling show Lost!

Lucky for us in America Sr., we get Rossanne in syndication like four times a day on different channels. Like nails on a chalkboard...

In the Family Entertainment genre I always liked As Time Goes By up until it started taking itself too seriously. The renewed courtship, the rekindling of an old romantic spark was interesting. Once they got married the show went downhill, IMO. Rest in peace, Geoffrey Palmer.
My local PBS station sometimes shows Are You Being Served?. That was some great situation comedy.

Monty Python is one of the funniest TV comedy shows EVER
I rember when I was just a lass of 8 and I would sneak up late and watch Monty Python. Did not understand any of it, but I became obssesed with British Comedy from then on out.

ahhh more british thoughts on the subject: "The presence of a body of well-instructed men, who have not to labor for their daily bread, is important to a degree which cannot be overestimated; as all high intellectual work is carried on by them, and on such work material progress of all kinds mainly depends, not to mention other and higher advantages."
