Why did Locke act like Desmond was his best friend in the whole world in the finale?

Locke:

Oh Desmond! So very nice to meet you again! Oh by the way, thanks for leaving me to press the button, I am really enjoying that! Thanks Again!

Desmond:

Glad you liked pressing the button, just trying to help out brotha!

The first thing I would do would be to punch Desmond right in the nose. Am I missing something here?

Locke thought it was his destiny, at least until he and Eko discovered the Pearl. I can't see any reason why he would be angry at Desmond. At that moment, he probably feels sorry for Desmond, who spent three years pressing the button, which Locke believes (again, at that moment) to be meaningless.

It's a shared empathy...he knows how Desmond feels...all that wasted time (or percieved wasted time)...to follow ones destiny to no avail.
