This hiatus is driving me crazy, 120 days until S3!
I'm getting Veclempt!
Talk amongst yourselves: The smoke monster is neither smoke, nor a monster. Discuss..

Yea, I figured that would happen, but what can I say, I'm losin' my marbles!:rolleyes4
I think I found one...oh, wait, that's a peanut.
But tell me, why do you think the monster isn't smoke or a monster? Or was that just some BS you made up?
orangemen07
06-07-06, 04:26 AM
Part bs, but it didn't eat Eko, so the only crime its committed in my eyes is against the environment(ripping out trees). Plus smoke doesn't have pictures of stuff flashing around in it.
:bs:
EDIT: I just got your joke too! Something tells me they wont come back into the picture until October 4th:cry:
I'm pretty sure it's a given that it's not just smoke.
But they did see it before Locke was grabbed in the season finale, and when they threw the "Din-O-Mite" down the hole smoke did pop out the other end and fly off.
So, let's say the smoke is the monster, what's in the hole? Razors or something? How else would it have shredded the pilot and spit him back out into the trees?
orangemen07
06-07-06, 04:39 AM
Unless...
that was a different monster:eek:!
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN...
Two monsters? That's just too much to comprehend!
Although, I have always liked the idea of a black smokie and a white smokie.
orangemen07
06-07-06, 04:47 AM
"Ebony and Ivory, live together in perfect harmony..."
another beatles reference! I think we've had another breakthrough Cranky!
There was more than one Beatles reference?
Oh, I forgot, Lost has referred to just about EVERYTHING.

Well, I think we should change the name of this thread to The orangemen/Cranky chat room: noone else allowed! It's been good buddy, but I'm tired, I'll see ya tomorrow:Cheers:

Maybe the monter is just bewithed coffee grinds
At this point in time the monster could be anything from air pollution incarnate to molecular intelligent organisms to bad gas.

Gregg Nations was asked if he knew what Damon meant when he said we'd "seen the Monster"...
Yes, I know what they meant. They are kind of devilish to put that hint out there like that, aren't they? I can give you a further hint: they are referring to an espisode after "The 23rd Psalm." That was episode 10, so it's basically in the second half of the season. Good luck finding it. And enjoy rewatching the episodes.
That rules out a few things, which gets us closer...
That rules out a few things
But does it really?
Richardstone
06-07-06, 09:28 PM
But does it really?
Yeah, absolutely, figure out what episodes some things are in (such as Kate's Black Horse) and you can say yes it could be or no it definitely is'nt...
He basically narrowed it right down to Season 2 Episodes 11 - 23, it was somewhere in there...
As with everything in LOST, it's not irrefutable, but that's what I took from his comment...
Her horse was pre-11, but I know you're just using it as an example. Still, a shadow moving the background could be the monster. Or Dave. Or Fenry for all we know. Perhaps the Hurley Bird. Was there smoke inside one of those containers in the pile laying out in the jungle? Was the monster hiding in Michael's hair?
Where, O where, was the monster?
orangemen07
06-08-06, 01:32 AM
Get this: COCAINE is the monster!!!!
Just TPTB incorporating a little PSA into their show. I think that is a respectable decision on their part.

:welcome:
But on a lighter note, I'd like to formally welcome Richardstone,Without Dane, and of course Journey89, whom we so rudely ignored in post #14.
Now to actually discuss something so's not to be a nothing thread.
Where were we anyway...?
:wizard: I'll cast some spells instead.
:rotfl:
Oh, yes, Richardstone's comment on what the monster might also be or where it might also have been seen.

Interesting about that clarification regarding the podcast. Cranky you're definitely correct that it doesn't narrow it down much at all. But, I do find it interesting that its something concrete enough they can point out when it is/isn't visible. (i.e. some people saying "the memories are the monster!")
I like this thread. I feel like I can spread my wings truly for the first time.
So would we be the wind beneath those wings?
orangemen07
06-08-06, 03:41 AM
Okay guys, get ready for this, I'm actually going to be serious for a moment.
:scratchchWhen did the medical hatch come into the picture, because I always found it odd that there was an "escape hatch" there in claire flashback, but it was gone (along with its door) when she and kate went back. Maybe there doing more than just psychological experiments in the Dharma Initiative...
Awww schucks, we actually have to have meaningful conversations now
:sadwalk:
It's ok, organemen07, it's all :bs: meaningful conversation.
Wait, what "escape hatch" I thought the door she saw in her flashback was the same one she saw in the present.
orangemen07
06-08-06, 03:45 AM
no, when Ethan is walking her back to aaron's room, there was a door labeled Escape Hatch on the right wall, but it was gone when Kate went back.
EDIT::sleepzzz:
Without Dane
06-08-06, 03:53 AM
I think I have to rewatch before I comment. I thought the escape hatch was there both times.
Ohhh, that door. Hmm. Couldn't just be an error. Perhaps the angles were wrong and you couldn't see it.
Dude! One of my slices of cheese was wrapped inside out! There was no way to open it!
orangemen07
06-08-06, 03:56 AM
Maybe I just thought it wasnt there because Kate didn't investigate it. I'm 99% sure it wasn't though.
EDIT: Ahhh! Damn Cheese!
I know. Luckily the cheese packet had an escape hatch, so I got the cheese out. Although upon another inspection...I couldn't find the hatch.
Maybe The Others have OCD and can only enter through the entrance and exit through the exit...can't pack up and leave through the front door. What are you going to do? Make an escape hatch!

I thought it was there too, just hard too see because of the camera angle (I'm talking about the Escape Hatch).
You know, Doletrain, wants you start posting in this thread you can't leave, right? We can't afford you to tell the others about us.
In lighter news: this thread is like the general discussion of the general discussion forum. It's a bit weird.

Hey, this is an exclusive thread to be in. By July, we're gunna need a bouncer, I guarentee it!
Cranky, we rock at staring threads, I think we should go into business.
Then launder millions of dollars, lie to our employees, help out our friends with some inside trading, and file for bankruptcy while we're on jets to Mexico.
Hmm, all we need now is Blackhawk or Sals to really liven up the place. They probably have better threads to visit, though.

I swear the cast of Windfall couldn't get any bigger! My god, it's confusing. Here's just a portion of the cast:
Angelina Jolie's Lips
Christina Reechi
Captain Gordon from Lost
Oprah Winfrey
Sir Sean Connory
Jessica Simspon
The Anorexic Olsen Twin
Bette Davis' Eyes
The Grim Reaper
Wanda Sykes
Sean Penn Once Again Playing An Autistic Man Cause That’s All He’s Good At
Tom Cruise and Xenu
The cast of Laguna Beach
Pope Benedict
NOT Keanue Reeves
A Cute Kitten
Prince
The Hanson Brothers
Alex Trebek
Chuck Norris
That Slutty Chick from Desperate Housewives
Tom Hanks
Jay-Z
President Bush
A Nun with a Chainsaw
A very drunk Courtney Love
And a special guest appearance by Shakira’s Hips.

...Chuck Norris...
That settles it, I'm seeing it.
And bumping a thread is bringing a thread back to the top of the first page by posting in it. It's usually used for threads, like Locke's Sock Drawer, that are a few pages back.

Finally, I think we're the only ones in this thread who liked the hobbit.
My take on Windfall? I liked the ending better than where it started. It didn't delve into their lives enough, they gave us 30 flat characters and wanted us to completely understand what all of them were going through in the first 10 minutes. I don't even know any of their names.
And the cliche "you don't know me" dark, mysterious, ex-convict character ot on my nerves.
ETA- But I think compulsion will keep me watching it.

Without Dane
06-09-06, 05:27 AM
Agreed. They didn't get into their lives much at all. And a handful of the storylines were just absurd... the russian girl... the convinct... the "baby blackmail." But overall it was okay. Good for Luke Perry, haha.
