View Full Version : Another Libby triviality...there were 23 of you?

I noticed during last night's doubleheader that when Michael says to Libby "I thought you said that there were 23 of you?", Libby does not reply "There were," but instead says "They were." I checked Spooky's transcript and it says "there" but after rewatching the episode I am 99% sure that she does in fact say "they." What this means if anything, I have no idea. I just found it terribly interesting, is all.

Also, in ...And Found she uses Fenry's "trust issues" line and appears to know Michaels name before the other tailies (well, it was told to Bernard).

This is GROUNDBREAKING. It changes EVERYTHING.

I never said it was, zeek. Triviality is in the threads title. And it does greatly change the meaning of what she said, at any rate.

And being that it is such an apparently trivial point, Mods feel free to merge with the episode discussion or one of the Libby threads.

So does no one believe that she said they rather than there, that there's simply no significance in phrasing her comment in such an exclusionary manner, that it doesn't matter because she's belly-up, that it's so trivial it's laughable or am I simply hated that much? Because idjut that I am I actually think this means something.

I wondered that too after the first time I heard it last night, but they played that segment again during the recap before ...And Lost and she says they. Tilting at windmills, perhaps.

The transcript that translators received have her saying "there were".

At least that is the phrase used for the translation into Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and German... I haven check other translations though...

I wish I could go back and watch it with closed captioning. The product of an overactive imagination probably. But it was the new Penelope photo that got me thinking and looking for all of this. Could it be that it was changed to they for the rebroadcast? Maybe this is just my own and very private NMM.

I think more to the point is where did all the tailies go, here is a countdown, and the numbers don't add up.

Started with 23.

3 people were taken the first night

Which left 20

9 more were taken a few days in.

Which left 11.

If we count the guy with the broken leg who died, thats 1 more.

which left 10.

Nathan was killed by Goodwin, and Goodwin was killed by Ana-L, thats 2.

which left 8.

Cindy was taken by the others in the journey back to losties camp.

which left 7.

I only saw, Eko, Ana-L, Libby, Bernhard. Which is 4. Where and when did 3 other tailies go missing??????

UK: I think you are missing the 3 that died from injuries in between the first night and when Donald died (the guy with the broken leg). A really good reference is Sledgeweb's body count:
http://lost.cubit.net/count.php

(You'll notice he starts out with 22 and not 23, because one was Goodwin, who wasn't a true tailee, he was a spy... but that is amoot point because he was killed anyway, so it would have canceled that number out).

On the transcript, sorry, I heard "there" also.

Valiant, LPU, most valiant. NMM mimicry aside, I just don't know that there's any "they're there." :D

But I admit, its been known to get it wrong too. :)

Closed captioning is not accurate. As I recall, she only refers to them on occasion. However, spooky is as accurate as accurate gets. ;)

I trust spooky implicitly and refer to her transcripts all of the time. I'm honestly wondering if it wasn't changed for the rebroadcast, though. Maybe I'll go ask Gregg Nations at the lage and see how soundly they laugh me out of the room!
