Mods, please dont merge this thread with the NFL thread yet, since I dont think anyone reads it anymore...I found it on page 9 a few days ago.

Hey everyone, its football season soon, and I was wondering if anyone wanted to do fantasy football. We could start a league for fun.

PM or post here if you are interested!

Okay, so far, the tentative list is:

OMG its LFG

I think it would be fun. We can set up a free league on Yahoo or Espn or something...have a live draft...i have run them before...

come on guys!

Mr. Cluck
07-17-06, 11:04 PM
Not to be picky, but I only do yahoo.

vonnegut
07-17-06, 11:04 PM
If it's free, I can be persuaded...

ETA: I'm Yahoo, too

SpidermanHouston
07-17-06, 11:20 PM
l will play if there's at least 8 people playing. I prefer Yahoo also. And I don't care about the live draft. That takes too much time and everyone would have to be available during the live draft so I would just prefer an auto-draft.

OMG its LFG
07-18-06, 01:19 AM
i actually like yahoo better too, but i was trying to be flexible. On yahoo, if people dont show up for live draft the comp picks for you, but i dont care. Auto draft is just as good. If we get the four people here so far, me, von, spider and cluck, we might be able to get six more, and have ten.

vonnegut

Hell, count me in.

Just dont' depend on me.

I can't even show up on time to the Lost:Survivor game, so....

OMG its LFG
07-18-06, 05:41 PM
Ten or 12...as many as we can get...16 and 20 are too much though, you end up with crappy players

i forgot how much I love football season

vonnegut
07-18-06, 08:33 PM
When would this begin?

OMG its LFG
07-18-06, 08:34 PM
when the football season starts officially, but we would pick teams whenever....then sit around and wait.

OMG its LFG
07-18-06, 08:35 PM
von, do you know what fantasy football is?

vonnegut
07-18-06, 08:46 PM
Kind of.

You pick players, and every week you "play" some of them and if they do things they get points added or taken away, or something like that.

A bunch of the guys at work play it and talk about it constantly. But I've never done it.

SpidermanHouston
07-18-06, 08:46 PM
You should just go ahead and create the league on Yahoo and just let people join till you have around 10.

do we want any special scoring or anything?

When I play, I also have two extra starting positions that are RB/WR and WR/TE or something like that. Can you add those two positions and set the bench players to the maximum capacity? I like to have a deep bench. 6 bench players doesn't seem like enough especially when the bye weeks come along. I think the scoring is all right.

SpidermanHouston

Yeah, defensive players are cool. It can make a difference in a game even though they don't get too many fantasy points. I don't mind. This way I could draft Mario Williams.

OMG its LFG
07-19-06, 08:12 PM

SpidermanHouston
07-19-06, 08:22 PM
No, I can adjust my Pre-Draft Player Rankings and put Mario Williams high on my list. The auto-draft drafts your players based on your Pre-Draft Player Rankings and availability. It doesn't guarantee that I will get him.

No, I want to be fair and let other people have great players like Dominick Davis, Andre Johnson, Eric Moulds and the Texans defense. Carr and Williams is more than enough.

BTW: This thread should never be merged with the NFL thread. Since some NFL fans don't really care about fantasy talk. It would be like combining the Lost Expierence forum with the Lost General Discussion forum.

We don't have players yet. Until we have 10 or 12 players and sometime next month, there will be an auto-draft in which the computer automatically selects players based on your predraft rankings and needs. If you really want Corey Dillon, you would have to go the Draft Central link on top of the page and adjust your pre-draft player rankings. In your rankings you can put him high on your list to have a better chance of your team drafting him.

OMG its LFG
07-21-06, 05:45 PM

There are a lot of positions set up. You should eliminate a WR and probably one of the flex positions. With defensive players in there, our rosters are going to be huge.

IMO, what actually sucks more than autodrafts is team defenses. Good lord could there be more of a crapshoot? Oh, right. That comes from using individual defensive players, too. Bleah. LOL.

Yeah, yahoo doesn't do a good job of ranking defensive players for autodraft. I also dropped all of mine and picked up better ones. But you don't have to use Yahoo's predraft rankings. You could have put them in the order you wanted them. I just didn't do that with defensive players. But I did change my top 50 players rankings. I did put Peyton Manning at #1 on my list since I knew everyone would draft a running back first since that's what Yahoo's preranking autodraft will draft first. I dropped most of my bench for other players also but overall it's not that much of an improvement since with 12 teams in the league, all the superstars are on everyone's starting lineup.

In a way, I don't like having Peyton Manning on my fantasy team either since the Texans play him twice and is in the same division so I really want him to fail. But the only way I will trade him is if someone gives me 3 quality offensive players for him.

I guess IRL put Randy Moss high in his list because Yahoo doesn't rank him that high. Marshall2u Panthers drafted almost all of the Carolina Panthers players. He's going to have a tough week when the Panthers have their bye week.

This is my first time in fatasy football, so I have a lot to learn. I am a big Panthers fan (first) and a Lions fan (second). I also am sentimental, so I picked for reasons other than raw numbers. But! Carolina does have a very solid team this year and I feel good about having a few of their players on my team. I just thought it was funny that you got most of the starting Carolina Panthers lineup. Carolina does have a very good team and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the Super Bowl. But if Carolina happens to have a bad game then your whole fantasy team is going to have a bad game. And yes Carolina's bye week will be tough for you, you will have to do a lot of substituting that week. I would probably pick up a better backup QB right now for their bye week. I see you have Detriot's McCown as your backup. I think there are better QBs available right now as free agents.

Fancy Monkey, you gave me a dud when you traded Warrick Dunn to me. Although he is probably getting the same amount of points as Chris Chambers. My running backs suck. It sucks when each of the two running backs (Travis Henry and Mike Bell) I had on my bench had more points than my starting three combined.

That torn ACL may just have locked up the #1 seed for me. Of course, I'd feel a lot better if that meant anything in this league...

Yeah, I didn't watch the game. I saw the final score this morning and I thought for sure Peyton Manning had a good game. I look at my fantasy team and see that Peyton Manning only had 11 points. One TD pass??!! My two reserve QBs , David Carr and Jason Campbell each had more points. And my running backs still sucked. I'm going to drop to sixth or seventh place but I guess it doesn't matter since only the last 3 weeks really count and I'm not in danger of missing the playoffs. Although it means that I will be playing one of the top 3 teams in the first round. Hopefully Manning has saved his TD passes for the last 3 weeks.

In the football draft, which is live this Saturday at 12:30 pm central/1:30 pm eastern/10:30 am pacific, the draft order is randomly selected about 30 minutes before the draft. Once the draft starts, each player has 90 seconds to make each pick. There will be 15 rounds. I made the mistake of not doing any practice drafts before this one. I violated all of the rules I have for yahoo leagues. Retarded 2nd round pick when I should have grabbed a WR or RB. Then seeing all the good WR's get drafted. Eh, I'll make the most of it but luckily I have other teams in the event this one totally busts.

Week One: Highs and Lows

Locke's Legs ran for 130 points on Sunday. Plus, Anquan Boldin and Todd Heap haven't even played yet (they'll play in the Monday night games tonight). This team may prove to be a juggernaut!

Spidey's Texans had 5 starters score a cumulative 6 points on Sunday of week one. Or, maybe I should say weak one.

That's it for now cuz everyone else was average.

FrodoFraggins

My team ridiculously overachieved. I probably won't score over 100 points in a week from here on out! I almost benched palmer for Romo after week 1.

BTW: I'm willing to trade any players if it makes sense. But If you ask for gates/palmer I kind of want to make it a deal for a stud of some sorts, ie. WR1 or high RB2.

Not bad for the 25th and 36th picks, especially since the two guys that I drafted before them, Shaun Alexander and Marvin Harrison, turned out to be big busts for me.

I mean, not even Censored could have predicted that Tom Brady and Randy Moss would be having the type of season that they've been having.

i recommend TE Greg Olsen of DA BEARs!

here is why

the bears do not have a true #1 receiver and i do not know if Hester qualifies as a #2 receiver. greg olsen will be jay cutler's #1 target. the teams are going to be so worried about stopping forte and hester that olsen will find the middle of the field. he is a big guy who can break tackles. i highly recommend him.

super sleeper: WR earl bennet. you probably wont pick him up until mid season, but thats when you will need to. also of the bears, once teams catch onto olsen, he is cutler's next target (and former vanderbilt buddy) and he is poised for a breakout year. they will hook up for huge success like they did in college

my two cents

See, yoyo, I read that differently. No true #1 WR means a good TE will get bottled up and not see the ball as much. My 3 cents. :D

Football is the fantasy sport with the least "upkeep:" You only need to adjust your roster like once per week, if you choose.

Fantasy Football creates interest in other games due to their fantsy impact on your game/league.

Don't cost nuthin'.

Just wondering...

I never play Fantasy Football because every Sunday during the season (and the week leading up to it), I'm so totally wrapped up in my real-life team that I've always thought keeping a fantasy team would be a distraction. I especially don't want to be rooting for a player in my fantasy team when he's playing against my real team, or if he's a factor in my team's division or even its conference.

As a season ticket holder in that same team, soup, do you find playing fantasy any kind of distraction to the real thing at all, or does it really just add to the football fun?

I play every year with multiple teams but even if it is my starting Fantasy QB playing the Panthers I would never root for him to have a good game. The Panthers trump Fantasy football but the rest of it makes it more enjoyable.

Well my rule is that my team comes first before anything else. Its a little hard when u play in a league that is for money but for free ones like this there shouldn't be any problem.

I still route for my team against fantasy players in my pay league. I am a die hard.

TheBigCat

I learned something the hard way playing fantasy soccer last year. The site I play on works it so that you are in two competitions simultaneously. There are cumulative-score leagues which you enter with you friends and there is a head-to-head league that each player's team is automatically entered into.

The head-to-head league I was in I was the only Yank. 13 English, 4 Scots, 2 Irish and me, IIRC. They put flags by your names is how I know this. By Christmas I was 3rd place in the league and all these people had to be wondering just who this Yank was that was doing so well. But my error was that I was too sentimental to the team that I favor in the Premier League, that being Arsenal. They only allow you to 3 players from any one team and I kept my 3 Arsenal players on my team at all times, even when that team was underperforming and my Arsenal players were doing crappy.

In the end I wound up finishing 17th, which in a real league would have been one place above relegation.

Oh and in the cumulative league KoS won, I was second and island maverick came in third, so I don't feel too badly, being able to hold my own in competition against those two heavyweights. Made me want to run up Old Glory in celebration just because I didn't finish dead last. :D

I have no problem separating my love of the Pats from my fantasy teams. I end up having so many temas that sometimes what is good for one is bad for another. Reality comes first. Drafting Brady #1 helps. :)

I have a new problem: I may have a job lined up. If so, I may miss the draft, due to the afternoon start time on a Saturday. I will set myself up for autodraft, though (which I abhor, but oh well.)
