I found this over at tv.com. Pretty much everything here is old news, but I thought the stuff about J.J. Abrams was worth mentioning. Sorry if this is already been posted somewhere else.

"JJ may leave the show by the end of next season"?

I couldn't tell he was present at all in the last season! WTF?

I sense a pattern developing:

Season 1 - JJ is involved, the writing is great, and LOST soars to #1.

Season 2 - JJ isn't involved, the writing sucked, and LOST gets snubbed at the Emmies.

Season 3 - JJ is allegedly coming back, who knows about the writing, who knows what'll happen at all in S3.

Season 4 - JJ is allegedly going to be gone, writing may suffer or improve depending on S3, Who the hell knows what's going on that this point! We're all frickin LOST! :ImLost:

I may be a fool, but in spite of everything, I'm holding on to a teensy, tiny hope that TPTB can get it together and give us a good season.....okay a subatomic size hope.

^ I'm with you guys in that I'm trying not to make assumptions about S3, let alone S4. I'm holding out for a while, since I was really not happy halfway through last season, but felt that they pulled through in the last few episodes (and Fenry juiced up the volume a bit, too).

I was very disappointed by the news of JJ's absence at the start of last season, but he's a starter, not a finisher. Now that I know more about him I realize that this was always the way it was inevitably going to turn out. He's the prototypical absentee father concerning his creative endeavors.
Hopefully they can make it work, with or without him.

I agree. I have hope. Loved Season I... once I got in on DVD, I became obsessed. Season 2 starts, and its love/hate (but, come on, this is the first time fans even have the chance to criticize)... once I get those Season 2s and watch them straight through over a few days instead of the better part of a year, I think I'm gonna realize the logic and integrity of the the season as a whole. Can't wait for Oct. 4.

Like you, now that I know more about him, this doesn't really surprise me all that much. However, there is the issue of credibility, or at least I'd like to think so. What do I mean? OK, he started Alias and then left. After he left, the show went downhill and is now cancelled. OK, fine. Then he starts LOST. It's great in S1. It's success leads him to bigger and better things (MI:III?) and he neglects yet another hit show that he's started. Personal note - I don't blame JJ for MI:III's suckiness, rather Tom Cruise. From what I've heard, JJ did a great job.

Now he's coming back in a possible attempt to revive LOST. Hell, there's a lot of money to be made if he can re-direct it toward it's original roots. Fine. But then we hear that he's allegedly leaving again, possibly permanently, at the end of S3? WTF?

From a TV show standpoint, this is where credibility comes into question. The guy obviously has talent. He knows what the hell he's doing.......I think. Anyway, why would any television studio put stock in him if he shows a pattern of leaving once the series is a hit? His credibility is shot IMHO. Surely the boardroom conversation can't go, "Hey, let's pour a ton of money in JJ's direction, have him come up with an off the charts hit, and maybe he'll be around to finish it." What the hell kind of thinking is that? Oh yeah, it's Hollywood. It just goes to show they don't give a shit about the fans, it's all about the money. Not only is his credibility shot IMHO, but at that point he's nothing more than a studio pimp selling his skills to the highest bidder.

Hopefully they can make it work, with or without him.

Honestly, I hope they can make it work without him. In reality, I don't think they can, especially if they're leaving things to Damon et al. Maybe it's just me but it really sucks that JJ starts stuff like this and doesn't see it through the end. That's not very professional IMHO but I guess Hollywood doesn't see it that way. I guess it is all about the money. Make a name for yourself and then see how much money you can sell it for.

JJ, you should really be ashamed.

In my opinion, the movie industry is seriously lacking in originality these days and yet Lost has proven that there are still stories out there that haven't been told (as opposed to making a movie out of whatever old, crappy TV show is the most popular this month, just to make money). JJ Abrams is able to create that originality and I actually like the idea of someone like him contributing to the area of show business that is most in need of the talents he posesses. Plus, movie-making seems to fit his start and stop creative style and does not bind him to long-term creative restraints (i.e. "we cannot do that on the show because it will mess up what we want to do in 3 years"). He can do one project and move on to another without dissappointing fans or leaving his brainchild in someone elses hands to finish.
However, I do hate the idea of him abandoning the best TV show ever at such a crucial time. I for one am going to do my best to enjoy the fact that he is coming back next season and not try to get ahead of myself by skipping to the depression factor that is sure to kick in when he actually leaves the show for good. I know it's dificult, but thinking about him leaving will only make it harder to enjoy the blessing of having him back for Season 3.

Wow, Leuthen, why don't you just tell us how you really feel?

I thought he was holding back, personally. ;)

Seriously, you've said everything that I could say about the subject Leuthen, but better.

Wow, Leuthen, why don't you just tell us how you really feel?

How long ya got? ;) Just kidding. Seriously though, the whole JJ issue just irritates the hell out of me. It's a pattern he's developing and I don't like it at all. I know the guy has talent and I have no problem with him selling that talent to the highest bidder. However, there's a bit of personal responsibility that comes along with that. Especially to the fans. We're the ones that make or break these guys. If we don't watch the shows, they tank. When we go the opposite direction (I mean, look around ;)), then TPTB behind the shows get noticed even more. It's like they're just using us as a springboard for their own careers.

Oh, H4P, I was but I've ranted about JJ all season long and even had "bJJb" as my subnic for awhile. Oh, bJJb = Bring JJ Back.

^ I believe I posted in that thread a qhile back. I'm suprised I haven't heard anything from KF2 about JJ's return. He was pretty vocal about it last season.
