View Full Version : The Official Comiccon HYPE/Discussion Thread

Sooooo, we all know that SOMETHING is gonna go down at comiccon involving the ARG, and judging from that recent EW article, its probably gonna be REALLY FIERCE!!! :blinkie:
What I've done here is made a thread for us to HYPE and try to guess what's gonna go down on the 23rd at Comiccon, and then discuss it once it happens (and this can be the thread where those that are there can report to us LIVE ;))
As most of you are aware, the LTV summer hiatus awards are coming up soon, and with a category for BEST WEBMAZE PREDICTION I thought this thread would help out in that regard.
So I offer my prediction right here and now.
What if Damon and Carlton's "Big Stance" against Hanso has something to do with them BUSTING OUT THE VALENZETTI EQUATION BOOK WITH COPIES ON SALE RIGHT THERE AND THEN?!?!?!?!
:blinkie: :hyper: :blinkie: :hyper: :blinkie:
Wouldn't that just be AWESOME!!! :D
I mean, Hyperion has a website for a book that they're NOT selling??? This would be too perfect of a marketing idea for them to pass up. RABID LOST fans at convention+ARG+Book Release=$$$ How fast would YOU snag that book?!?!? :D
I'd be like http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Smilies/flash.gif on that action!! :D
Now have at it folks!! :)
Peace,

Cool idea truff!! :)
My idea for ComiCon is a little more sedate. I always had a big picture of Dr. Mittlewerk making a public appearance to bust on Damon and Carlton for defaming THF thru Lost.
And suddenly--Stage left. Who makes a dramatic entrance, possibly in a wheelchair ala Captain Christopher Pike??
None other than Alvar Hanso... possibly liberated by Mr Fixer and members of Persephone (Yes, I think its a group of people).
And Old man Alvar begins to break out the truth about Herr Doktor Walks Like an Ape, and all of the horrible things he has done to Alvars beloved Foundation.
Or not-- What do I know???

Truff - I think that is very likely. I mean, yeah, they have the website. And based on the EW article, the SOMETHING BIG will involve the "real world" - sounds like a book release to me. They can't keep the mystery of "what is this equation?" for forever. And, it makes sense, if we believe that the package Darla had for Rachel was a copy of the book, or something. Rachel could have given it to TPTB as a way of getting the message out.
I think that is very interesting. And who knows what that book will be like??!! I am very very excited about ComicCon!
Now, you lucky people that are going, don't forget about us losers that can't be there - do all you can to get pics, video, whatever of all the action!

On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Experience#Timeline, it states "
Future Clue - 22 July 2006 Co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producers Bryan Burk and Carlton Cuse will be speaking at Comic-Con in San Diego where they will give details about the Experience, as confirmed by the Official Lost Podcast, hosted by Damon and Carlton. Some speculate that this will begin part three of the three part Experience"
I post this because I have seen that Lost stuff will be on the 22nd or 23rd so we can be on the lookout both days :)

I have a much more "sedate" theory than what you have, Frosty:
We know from the post-Finale podcast that The Hanso Foundation will be at least mentioned at ComiCon. This brings up the interesting role that THF has had on the show, as the backer of this mysterious initiative. Now, the ARG has given us the THF propaganda site, complete with Persephone/Rachel telling us what's REALLY going on. However, what did Fenry tell us in the Finale of Season 2? "We're the good guys."
Obviously, the show makes the Dharma people seem not exactly good at times. Thus, as the ARG began, THF started airing ads during the show casting the organization in a better light, showing what it is "really" about. In a way, it reminds me Season 4 of 24, where Fox and the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) reached an agreement where CAIR ads aired during commercials differentiating between the terrorist depiction on the show and real law-abiding American Muslims.
Damon and Carlton may be creators of this show in the ARG world as well, but it's still shown on ABC in the ARG world. And for these ads to air during the show, ABC would have to come to terms with THF.
Therefore, I think that at ComiCon, Damon and Carlton will issue an APOLOGY to The Hanso Foundation for its portrayal on the show. Will it be a heartfelt apology, or forced by ABC? I don't know yet. Either way, I think Mittlewerk will be there with Damon and Carlton as they apologize.
:Cowdance:
I really think you guys have some well thought out predictions. As far as where we are in the game, they would all be very logical, yet imaginitive events.
Here is where I run into problems...
---truffsta What would actually be IN the Valenzetti Book? They would have to include a real prediction as to the ending of the world, which would be very strange indeed. On top of that, they would have to include 100's of pages of filler stuff. That would be quite extensive work for a prop that perhaps hundreds of people would absolutely freak out over. No doubt fierce, those are the issues that I keep thinking about regarding the book. Having said all of that, I really think the arc is heading towards the unveiling of that book.
Aggie,
I like your ideas as well. The ONLY problem I foresee there is the ability of Damon and Carlton to act out the scene. Although, I think whoever does DJ Dan does an incredible job (Javi?) so maybe they can pull it off. I hope someone gets it all on film......
I am going to go way out on a limb and predict the following: (not all my own ideas, mostly ripped from other posters)
Carlton and Damon show up to applause.
They thank the audience and then Damon says something like this.
"Thank you all very much for the support and for watching the show...we are very excited about the upcoming third season, it should be a real doozy. We are all overwhelmed by the popularity and intensity of our fans, especially all the kids over at Lost TV. However, we feel it is time that we must come clean with you as the audience. The events on the show that we have been claiming to be "fiction" are all actually based on real events and real characters. (GASP) At first we were asked to keep thier identities secret, and to claim their story was made up. But in light of recent events having to do with Alvar Hanso and the real Hanso Foundation, we feel it is our duty to get the truth out there."
ENTER Mittlewerk stage left:
" I had a feeling you little weasels would try to pull something like this. I must commend you on your efforts Mr Cuse and Mr Lindelof. Very believable, but I am afraid your lies have gone too far. You see, ladies and gentlemen, decades ago, a legend, a hero, a pioneer, a man by the name of Alvar Hanso created the Hanso Foundation in order to save the human race. At first succeeding on the micro-level helping community by community, Alvar decided to step up his research to the macro level....culminating in research that would one day save the world from destroying itself. You see...."
Damon " Thats some mother clucking bullbork right there. What about Persephone, what about ROT, what about Rachel, what about DJ Dan....the truth is out there Mittlewerk, and the people have seen it!"
Mittlewerk "Oh really Mr Lindelof? Have they? Why dont we just ask Rachel herself? Rachel, come on out here...."
Enter Rachel.....looking drugged...... (TBC)
What if Damon and Carlton's "Big Stance" against Hanso has something to do with them BUSTING OUT THE VALENZETTI EQUATION BOOK WITH COPIES ON SALE RIGHT THERE AND THEN?!?!?!?!
Wouldn't that just be AWESOME!!!
NOOOOO !!!!!!!
:D
Seriously I understand now this is not an ARG but a way to sell derivate products , but it WOULD BE at least interesting if there were CLUES in what they sell !!!
Anyway I'm sceptical a book on a mathematical equation would make it top charts , well , if they did not hire stephen hawking that is :p
My idea for ComiCon is a little more sedate. I always had a big picture of Dr. Mittlewerk making a public appearance to bust on Damon and Carlton for defaming THF thru Lost.
Hehe . That's more like it .
And suddenly--Stage left. Who makes a dramatic entrance, possibly in a wheelchair ala Captain Christopher Pike??
None other than Alvar Hanso... possibly liberated by Mr Fixer and members of Persephone (Yes, I think its a group of people).
Nah , remember there is still ACT 3 ;)
... it reminds me Season 4 of 24, where Fox and the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) reached an agreement where CAIR ads aired during commercials differentiating between the terrorist depiction on the show and real law-abiding American Muslims.
LOL Aggie , they did ? *

Yeah That too . :)
Now what do I think ? Nothing , I really don't care , apart from the 'First ACT' I had NO FUN playing , they got to make it real big ( and less videoish ) for me to get in again ;)
* Remember I'm muslim myself so this stuff kinda makes me uuh laugh .

I agree that the book itself won't make it to the real world...and more than likely, not into the ARG either. way too much cost to write the book. But I do think that it will make an "appearance", in that someone will get a copy, and present us with excerpts.
I also think personally, that the equation itself is probably NOT in the book. I think the book will probably chronicle what led up to the U.N. enlisting Valenzetti to create the equation and deal with Valnezetti's work...or speculations about it...without ever actually giving the equation or it's answer. Otherwise, Troupe would have known the answer to the equation and would have given it in the interviews for Bad Twin, since the book was no longer available. Also, we've been given hints by GG on Rachels blog that Troupe was inaccurate in his writing...
As to what will happen...no clue...I'm hoping for a big unveil that unequivocally ties TLE to the show. But I think it'll end up being an appearance by Rachel and/or Mittelwerk...of course, according to GG, Valenzetti is still alive, so...

Hey webmazers!! :) Just peeking my head in here as I do occasionally. I'm not at all up on the maze, just have heard a few snippets as I pass by. I'm supremely curious about Comicon and what's going to happen there (and of course jealous of Pan and sculpey for going...dang, I should have planned to pop down to SD...)
At the risk of digging up a whole old controversy, how will nonmazers ever know/find out/understand wtf happens and what it means? Do you think it will even be possible for it to make sense if you don't follow the game?
I'm going to spend a little more time to try to have a 10% knowledge base of the ARG, but ARGggh, I actually don't know if I will really ever get that into it or get it...
I have wondered why there is really nothing in GD or even Lostaways talking about Comicon but now I find it is here! Seems like a lot of people on this site will never know about this.

That's a good question. And one of the prrofs, I believe, that it won't be anything too earth shattering. They run a fine line with the ARG/Show, so it has to be something that apeals to everyone. Whatever happens that is HUGE to the ARG, I think, will happen online. I think that any characters that show will have made appearances, or have been mentioned, in the show.
I like Aggie's original thought about Micheal and Walt, the "real" ones who had characters based on them, showing up for a Q&A. A Mittlewerk appearance is possible, as he has popped up in a commercial...possibly introducing the replacement for MacIntyre.
I agree that the book would be cool, but quite an undertaking. Predictions about the end of the world abound, but usually with a philosphical text. So, it could be a book ABOUT the equation. That was my understanding of Troupe's book. He doesn't strike me as a mathematician, so his book could have the equation, but be discussed in layman's terms.
I WANNA SEE JOOP!!!
ETA: Thanks, Aggie, for the clarification. Sorry, 3-Putt!
How about a DJ Dan live broadcast from Comiccon where he interviews RB from an unknown location in Europe and give major scoop about AHanso's background story.

Just for clarification, G, it was 3-Putt who thought that Michael/Walt would show up for a Q&A. I just said I thought the characters on Lost could be based on real ARG-world people.

A brief Hanso Foundation press conference (scripted, with no questions, of course) announcing the re-launch of their webiste with greater securty measures might make sense.

I think that's very possible; they'll need greater security measures on the site. But based on the Mittlewerk "spirited debate" ad, I could also see the site relaunching with greater DISCLOSURE of what THF is doing. I mean, the grandiose statements that were there before, with little concrete information to show for it, could be picked apart by Persephone easily. If they really want "spirited debate", they have to disprove some of the allegations against it, and by doing so give a greater picture of what THF is "really" about. And greater security will allow for them to give this clearer picture without Persephone "ruining" it by changing those texts to her point of view.

You know...I was just going to post something about Comic-Con when I saw this thread. I'm totally pumped up about this because I will be there taking pictures and (hopefully) getting audio. I'll need some help with that last part later, but anyways.....
I know that Damon and Carlton will have the panel on Saturday...but when did they say that something would go down Sunday too? Not trying to discredit anyone....just trying to find out so I know I have a real reason to go on "Kid's Day".

Of course! Don't really know how...but we'll get to that when the time comes. The audio is something totally different. I'm using just a regular tape recorder...so if I can get it on here and have someone host it, I'll do it. If not, I can always just make a transcript of the audio and post it.
ETA: Just to wonder...should the people that are going to Comic-Con from the board meet up somewhere in particular, so we can make sure the whole thing is being covered? I know I haven't met anyone on here before, and would love to. Just an idea to throw out there.

this is a blurb from Saturdays schedule from the Comic-Con website:
10:30-12:00 Lost: Season 3— You won't want to miss this panel with Jorge Garcia (Hugo "Hurley" Reyes) and Daniel Dae Kim (Jin-Soo Kwon) from the cast of ABC's hit show Lost as they are joined by co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producers Bryan Burk and Carlton Cuse to discuss the new season of Lost. They'll preview excerpts from the Lost Season 2 DVD box set, take questions from the audience, and perhaps even offer some surprises! Room 20
i sooooooooo wish i could be there!
Here is what could happen at ComiCon.
Lindelof and Cuse are speaking in front of a packed room:
Lindelof: "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you the real-life people that the characters Michael and Walt were based upon."
[out walks a man and his son]
Carlton Cuse: "This is Frank Richards and his son Milt. They have an incredible story to tell you. It is going to seem very familiar..."
_________
In that same vein, is it possible that the "real-life" person (that the Kate character is based upon) is destined to escape the island at the end of season 3 ? ( 4 ? 5 ? ) What would the tenacious Kate do if she were at large in the world ? We know she wouldn't go to the authorities. She avoids them like the plague. Would she pursue THF like a bulldog ? Suppose her mother didn't die while she (the real Kate ) was on the island ? Suppose, after escaping the island, she gets one last visit with her mother before her mother's death ? And she is told the horrible truth (whatever that is). "Your real father was _________ ."
In other words, is the Kate character based on the real experiences of Rachel Blake ? Is Rachel being bankrolled by Lindelof and Cuse ? Was Wayne her true father or someone else ?
(Yeah, I know this doesn't jive exactly with what we know about "Kate", but remember Kate is fictional and may be embellished and details changed to protect Rachel.)
How else could Lindelof and Cuse have found out the details of what has happened on the island ? Michael was missing and never knew about most of what happened in season 2, but Kate is always in the middle of everything and is reasonably one of the few survivors who could piece the whole story together for Lindelof and Cuse.
Plus, there are those freckles...
Driver: "Not on camera, Miss Blake, unless you want them to know who you REALLY are…"

It doesn't make much sense for them to let something huge happen and not have a way to show it to everyone. So there's gotta be something in addition to that they're doing to broadcast it to all of us internet people....

Well, in the Official Lost Podcast that was broadcast right after the season finale, Damon and Carlton said that there would be a podcast from Comic-Con. I'm guessing it will be an edited version of the panel discussion. Who knows how long it will take them to produce it, but that's one way they'll be getting the information out. Hopefully this will also have the added benefit of bringing some more people on Lost-TV into TLE, since I'm sure there is a subset here who listen to the Official Podcast but don't play the game.

So is she actually implicating Damon and crew in this? What's with the yelling?
BellyOfDesire just called me from inside the panel. Rachel interrupted the panel with Daman & Carlton. She said: "It's all real." "Alvar Hanso is real." "What about Joop?" and "To learn more go to HansoExposed.com (http://hansoexposed.com/)." Go now!

OK.... YOU GUYS, I've just had the most harrowing time EVER past 2 days... AWFUL... I never got on the plane to San Diego. They TOTALLY screwed up my flight, and I am steamed as hell, because they got me on too late for the LOST stuff at CC, so I decided not to go. But no one wants to hear me whine... I will do so later...
I'm posting because I just talked to sculpey on the phone from the Comic Con floor, and he has given me some detailed stuff from what the panel was like. I'm going to post them in the spoilers section. RB (well, JS) was there, but I don't think it was that revealing.

But it sounds like the spoilers are not OVERLY exciting, at least not the ones sculpey told me... though some might be of mild interest to some. KF2's friend seems to have told him something sort of more interesting frm the DVD party, so we'll see if that pans out, I just added to his thread in spoilers. Here's my post:

here's a transcript of what went down...
ETA: for archival sake, with many thanks to TLEC:
11:12am (West Coast Time Zone) BellyOfDesire just called me from inside the panel. Rachel interrupted the panel with Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse. Rachel Blake was sitting on the front row during the Q&A with Damon & Carlton. Nobody seemed to notice her because her back was to everyone. People were lined up at a mic asking the producers questions. Suddenly, Rachel interrupts, yelling out with something along the lines of (this rough from both bellyOfdesire & Andy. Both have audio that they will send later.)
Rachel: Don't be cute. Tell us what you know about the Hanso Foundation.
(Crowd erupts into applause.)
Lindelof: The Hanso Foundation is uh..a philanthropic organization that we have co-opted for the purposes of Lost (?) with the orientation films and uh...
Rachel: Those films are real! We deserve the truth.
Lindelof: (unintelligible)...we're writers...
Rachel: You're liars! You're promoting them as some force for good and they're not!
Lindelof: Look, uh, you know how Dan Brown uses Opus Dei in The DaVinci Code...
Rachel: Okay, so, since you claim not to know, How about I fill you in. They claim to have a monkey named Joop, a 105 year old orangutan. How can you (write about Iceland? (obscured audio)) Do you know anything... (Lindelof and Cuse lean to one another to confer privately) Stop...stop that! (Something about Africa). How do you explain the deaths of Hugh McIntyre and Darla Taft?
Lindelof: (we can't answer) your questions, we have no connection...
Rachel: I'm sure they wanted me to ask these questions.
Lindelof: We have no connection...
Rachel: That's a lie! They bought ads during your show. They're putting money in ABC's pockets to prove it's a great philanthropic organization?!
Lindelof: (Maybe...maybe you need to ask...)
Rachel: Stop it! You're protecting him. You're protecting a very real, very dangerous organization.
Lindelof: It's not real! It's a television show! There is no Alvar Hanso! (Editor's note: this was pretty surreal as it reminded me of the Shatner SNL sketch with "Get a life!", especially since many people were not familiar with TLE)
Rachel: It is real! The Hanso Foundation is real! The Dharma Initiative is real! Thomas Verner Mittlework is real and what he's doing right now, in Sri Lanka, he's doing terrible things, that's real. Where is Alvar Hanso?
Lindelof: He's an actor.
Cuse: He's in a window in our TV show.
Rachel: Alvar Hanso is real and I am* living proof of that and my name is Rachel Blake and I am real! (Crowd roars into applause) if you want the truth, you will go to hansoexposed.com! (Rachel turns to face crowd and shows her shirt with www.hansoexposed.com) (Obscured audio) (She turns to face stage again) you have blood on your hands! You have blood on your hands and YOU DISGUST ME!

I don't think they said the foundation itself wasn't real. But that they co-opted the name for their own use. I am, however confused as to why they said Alvar wasn't real.
Unless, of course, they were playing the angle that they thought Rachel was just a deranged fan, and believed Alvar from the show to be a real person.

Did you see Speaker's post that his agent CC also had trouble getting to Comic Con because of missing a flight. Pandora, is there something I am not aware of, are you CC or Speaker's agent?!
This is his words exactly:
"17. Poor CC couldn't make it due to plane screw-ups, but she got some spoilery words via phone:..."
Still, it doesn't make sense to me.
I completely agree. Ever since I listened to the audio from ComiCon, this "inconsistency" has been rattling around in my brain. I have been trying to figure out (to no avail) just how they are going to steer this back around into something that makes sense.
At this point, I am prepared to say that we can no longer call these things inconsistencies.
How can ALL of these statements be true ---
1. According to the TINAG rule, Rachel Blake and Thomas Mittelwerk are real persons in our world.
2. Rachel Blake stated at ComiCon that Alvar Hanso is a real person. The Hanso Foundation website (prior to its shutdown) claimed that Alvar Hanso is their founder.
3. At ComiCon, Lindelof and Cuse stated that THF was real but that Alvar Hanso was someone they made up. If that is true, then who was THF named after ? Who is it that Mittelwerk and others have continually referred to as Alvar Hanso if this person never existed in any form prior to Lindelof and Cuse making him up out of whole cloth for their TV show ?
Either Cuse and Lindelof went off-script and pulled a horrendous gaffe or (and I guess this is still possible) they have further surprises in store for us that will explain away these things. (I am very skeptical that this can be done at this point.)
This gaffe, IMHO, is not an "inconsistency". It is a 3-foot-wide crack in the foundation of this game.

3-PUTT.........................
I am sure you recall the original Hanso Foundation website reported that Alvar Hanso appeared at the United Nations in 1968 and gave a speech. In my opinion, there is no getting around that. It would be a matter of public record. Therefore, Alvar Hanso has to be "real."
The Hanso Foundation has been upset about the "fictional" TV show LOST and its slanderous attack on the Hanso Foundation and all of the good work they are doing.
I can't imagine Carlton & Damon committing such a major gaffe, yet I can't imagine a way to make the show fiction but the plane crash and death of Gary Troup real....and the Foundation real but its founder Alvar Hanso fiction.
My brain is going to explode.
they've made so many goofs with this ARG, I think saying he doesnt exist is just one more of them.
see you in the next life
07-24-06, 06:35 PM
hiya snakey...............
Surely Damon & Carlton couldn't screw up whether in the game Alvar Hanso is real or not. Please tell me they couldn't do that.
DarthKitty
07-24-06, 06:41 PM
My brain already did explode a loooong time ago. I think they probably have something else in store. So far there haven't been too many mishaps, especially major ones. But, then again, they were live and maybe got nervous playing this out in front of an audience and totally screwed up. It was kind of funny when he said Alvar was just some guy in a window on the show :).
ETA: I didn't follow as thoroughly through the second act so there could have been major mistakes I don't know about.
They are keeping to the idea that Lost is fiction, just like Hugh on Kimmel did. It doesnt make sense since where would the writer of said fiction be getting his ideas if he didnt know about the real Hanso and Dharma deal. It's never going to make sense so just enjoy playing if that's your choice. How could Rachel be in hiding yet show up at comic con wearing a t shirt with a hidden site printed on it no less? Where did she get it made up and where did she find the time, lol! I realized this weekend that (imo) it does take away from the seriousness of the show, it's just too stupid, I'll play along but I dont want to invest so much time and energy anymore, it's been too much of a let down with the contradictions and false starts to reveals we think will be so cool, then they never come.
leleana
07-24-06, 06:57 PM
Actually, the kind of shirt she's wearing can be done at home. If you have the blank white shirt, and the letters, you can just iron them on. I've seen my sister do it very quickly.
Secondly, I think she's going into hiding now. She obviously has to, after what she did at comic con, you'd think that'd get Mittelwerks attention.
I am a bit confused at what Damon/Carlton decided to say, but I'll wait and see if it all explains itself later.
see you in the next life
07-24-06, 07:20 PM
snakey, I know what you mean......At this point, I am continuing to follow along in order to see the "cool tie-in to the show." According to spoilers from ComiCon, they are shooting a sequence for the game that will tie-in to the beginning of Season 3. I am waiting for this to see if those of us that said the game would be important (blurring the lines between the show and the game) for the mythology of the show are going to end up being right.
Who knows.....so far, the game has been much like the show......more questions and very few answers.
Thomas Hobbes
07-24-06, 07:58 PM
Here is the full video of Rachel Blake at ComicCon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvVJNYZ5PuQ
Oh I'll still follow but I wont be disappointed anymore because I have lowered expectations. I read about the vids for the tie-in, that will be something. As far as them saying time on the isalnd isnt the same or hinting at it, when they changed the glyph meaning from 'cause to die' to underworld, that actually made sense. The underworld is another dimension of life, so in another dimension time could be anything or nothing at all.

For me the major gaping hole in the ARG fabric has been the Bad Twin/ Gary Troup material. With some patient thought, most things can be reasonably explained by comparing our reality to ARG reality.
The big problem... The statement that Gary Troup was aboard flight 815 and was killed. That put a "provable" element into the ARG reality. It directly connected the fictional TV show to the reality.
It would have been much easier to swallow had that link not been made.
Now, if Mittlewerk takes the Helgus Antonius to Craphole Island, as many are speculating he will from the info in the Spider Protocol memo, they are going to have to explain Flight 815. Either it didn't crash because it is a fictional reference (negated by the reference to Troup dying in the crash), or 815 would have had to crash elsewhere, or it crashed on Craphole but there were no survivors, or the survivors were rescued in the intervening 2 years between show time and ARG time.
It would have been alot simpler for the two realities to have said that Gary Troup went into hiding (ala Salman Rushdie) after recieving death threats from an anonymous party over the publication of Bad Twin.
Had it not been for the Troup reference, the whole thing can be explained away by Lost being a fictional TV show in both realities.
And, I wonder if Damon and Carlton started with an in-game response to Rachel, then back-pedaled and began answering OOG just to give us something to chew on....

you know, I've toyed with the idea that Alvar Hanso was the one that supplied TPTB with the information for the TV show Lost...that may also explain why they said he was just a character on TV...as a feeble attempt to keep any heat from him...of course, the people that would be affected by it would already know he's real so that doesn't really make sense either...
Sorry if this has been posted before.
