View Full Version : Comicon Panel Report

Not sure if there's already a thread on this, but this is what was discussed/whatnot at the LOST panel:
- Season 2 DVD will feature new Dharma video for a station whos name is cut out from the video (video shown at panel), but the intro logo of the Video was of Pearl.
- Kate will 'choose her man' by episode 4 of next season and we'll finally get to see some hot Kate action! :D
- 'Smokey' is not a cloud of nanites.
- The name of the first Episode of Season 3 will be "A Tale of Two Cities"
- They're still in the process of writing the First Episode of Season 3.
- They're going back to film some footage for the 'end' of the Lost Experience. So expect a nice show tie in at the end of the web game.
- Rose & Bernard are not involved with Dharma in any way
- Desmond will be returning next season.
- Any theory/spoiler containing anything about CLONES is false. They even went as far to say that you will never hear the word "CLONE" in any episode.
- They would not confirm or deny the existence of an underwater hatch (so take that as a yes)
- When asked about season the timeframe, and how season 1 spanned ~40 days and season 2 spanned ~25 days, they gave a response of how timeframes would be hard to estimate because what seems like a day to the island MAY OR MAY NOT be long or shorter than in the real world.
- The Egyptian Hieroglyphics roughly translated to "Underworld". Granted they could have several meanings, that’s the meaning the writers were aiming for.
- Vincent is still on the island. They said Michael should have negotiated harder
- They indirectly acknowledged the tie in with The Wizard of OZ and said there will probably be more.
- When asked about how characters on the islands all had fathers who were in positions of power or wealthy (Locke, Jack, Sun, Kate, etc., etc.) they said they couldn't really get into that but told the person asking that he was "asking the right question."
- When asked about the significance of ending the training videos with "Namaste", it was explained that Dharma is a company that would use their money to further man kind and try to develop things for the good of man kind and that’s why the videos were ended with this wish of good fortune(?). Said it doesn't really have any significance.
- When asked about how in the Episode where Hurley attempts to track the history of the numbers, and the guy at the mental hospital asks "did you open the box?" and did he refer to Pandora’s Box, they explained that the meaning of the numbers and what they do would all be explained by the end of Season 3.
- When asked about how many seasons we can expect from the show, they said it's hard to estimate that because the show will continue as long as ABC wants it to. It was discussed originally that the show may only run four to five seasons then have a movie to wrap it all up, but if the show is still going strong in five seasons the network execs may just keep on trucking along. They expressed their desire for it to end after season four ("if everyone here could just stop watching after season 4, then buy the season 4 DVDs that would be great"). So it's hard to say how many more seasons of Lost there may be.
- In the middle of Questions, a lady who went by the name of "Rachel Blake" got up and started yelling at the panel about how they should be ashamed about helping the Hanso foundation. Basically she was an actress who was part of the Lost Experience. The URL she yelled at the end of her question before she was escorted out by security was http://hansoexposed.com (http://hansoexposed.com/).
- They explained that the statue of the foot was put there to give prespective on how much history the island has and that next season we'll probably be exploring more of the islands history and that some flashbacks will take place on the island.
We were actually shown the TV spot for Season 3, but it was really just a montage of the characters saying "I was a doctor", "I was a millionaire", "A Con Man" and so on, with the voice going "Find yourself this season on Lost". Not too much revealed there.
The only BIG thing that interested myself was the new Dharma Training Video. The logo was that of the Pearl, but it was an different video. It explained that there were three phases to their mission, which were to observe, analyze and report the data they collect regarding the 'activities on the island'.
This is all I can remember off hand. I'll post this in the spoilers section for now and update it as I recall more items that were discussed at the Panel.
Discuss!

Thanks for the news.
- Any theory/spoiler containing anything about CLONES is false.
Whoa. I don't often visit the spoiler forum, and I don't know if you guys had already known that for a long time from previous spoilers, but for me it is a big revelation.
- When asked about season the timeframe, and how season 1 spanned ~40 days and season 2 spanned ~25 days, they gave a response of how timeframes would be hard to estimate because what seems like a day to the island may be long or shorter than in the real world.
I'm surprised that they said that. Not surprised that it could be the case in the story, just surprised that they said that.
- When asked about how characters on the islands all had fathers who were in positions of power or wealthy (Locke, Jack, Sun, Kate, etc., etc.) they said they couldn't really get into that but told the person asking that he was "asking the right question."
Kate's father powerful or wealthy? Did I miss something about either Sam Austen or Wayne?
They expressed their desire for it to end after season four ("if everyone here could just stop watching after season 4, then buy the season 4 DVDs that would be great").
I think it would be great too. I'm willing to do exactly that. Don't ruin the whole thing by overstretching it.

This bit really interested me. Without getting too involved, could the losties be being held as "hostages" on the island?
Why did they have to play the 'the time may pass differently island' card? Not only would that twist be a complete suspension of disbelief but it would actually be TOO sci-fi and a little childish/immature IMHO. Please don't bring the whole 'altering time' thing into this already complex equation. It'll cheapen the show. I don't think they'd EVER actually do it, but mentioning it keeps the theorists talking...over...and over...and over...

Now this is the stuff worth gold, IMO! Great job WndrBr3d!
A couple points of interest for me are the following....
- When asked about season the timeframe, and how season 1 spanned ~40 days and season 2 spanned ~25 days, they gave a response of how timeframes would be hard to estimate because what seems like a day to the island may be long or shorter than in the real world.
- The Egyptian Hieroglyphics roughly translated to "Underworld". Granted they could have several meanings, that’s the meaning the writers were aiming for.
First the time element. This seems almost like a time stands still kind of thing.
The hieroglyphics are really weird. "Underworld" could translate to many things, IMO.
The Wizard of Oz tie-in was great, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
The father figure element has been explored highly on this forum, and this is something that looks promising for who could be behind all this.
- When asked about how in the Episode where Hurley attempts to track the history of the numbers, and the guy at the mental hospital asks "did you open the box?" and did he refer to Pandora’s Box, they explained that the meaning of the numbers and what they do would all be explained by the end of Season 3.
This will open up a Pandora's box once it does get revealed. I hope TPTB do this up right.
Thanks again for your input, WndrBr3d!

Thanks! I put someof this stuff from sculpey in the other thread, but some of this is new also. Wanted to mention the 13 two minute mini-episodes of "The Lost Diaries" they were promoting too, which are of major character like Kate or Sawyer finding a videotape recorder and recording their thoughts, Blair Witch style.
When asked about how in the Episode where Hurley attempts to track the history of the numbers, and the guy at the mental hospital asks "did you open the box?" and did he refer to Pandora’s Box, they explained that the meaning of the numbers and what they do would all be explained by the end of Season 3.
Wow, this one was really interesting to me (aside from the fact that I got a little shoutout... LOL). So they are now saying they WILL explain the numbers? That's huge!
With "underworld", for the Lost Experience folks...
I guess this is why RB calls herself Persephone?
- Any theory/spoiler containing anything about CLONES is false. They even went as far to say that you will never hear the word "CLONE" in any episode.
shbl's gonna be crushed! Damn.

Wow, thanks for the update WB! I'll need a few to process all of this new info, and please post anything else you can remember (we're really hungry here in Spoilers these days).

I honestly don't know what to make of these spoilers. And I'm not talking about solving Lost's mysteries, I'm talking about Season 3 in general. While the general consensus seems to be that Season 1 was better than Season 2, I think the jury is still out on Season 2. So many questions were asked, and it seems like a lot of them will be answered in Season 3, only I pray that we will like the answers. Personally, I'm not a fan of the whole "time standing still" idea(although I'm still open to it if it is well done) and the promise of mind blowing revelations is both a curse and a blessing. If those revelations are good, then the series will remain the best on TV, but if they are sub par, the whole series will suffer as a result.
Even if I don't like the revelations, I know I'm going to follow the mystery to its end, but for now, I'm just hoping that Damon, JJ and Carlton know what the *bleep* they're doing.
Edit: "something will happen that will effectively fry peoples brains" -Carlton Cuse
Check out http://tv.ign.com/articles/720/720495p1.html for a few things not mentioned in the original post.
Second Edit: I hate the phrase "jumped the shark". Please don't ever, ever use that phrase in any thread on this board, I beg you. I really hope it was the author of the article who used that phrase and not Damon, or I might just stop watching the show...seriously... what a stupid *bleep*ing saying.
Third Edit: Sorry about the bleeps, but sometimes I need my full range of expression while still keeping the post PG-13.
Fourth Edit: Sorry about all the edits, and the numbering of the edits, I seriously don't know what possessed me to do that. Almost as annoying as the phrase "jumped the shark."
Fifth Edit:
Your post totally jumped the shark, dude. Too many edits. I guess I deserved that ... damn it, I did it again.

I think the LOST Experience woman part is funny and a nice tie-in lol. It would be great to have a last season, then a movie to end it all...a good way to end things I think. As long as it's not stretched out and stretched out to the point of annoyance. All good things must come to an end at some point.

wow. The panel acknowledging the "parents of power" being on the right track is huge. Like someone posted earlier, maybe they are being held hostage. The further glimpses of the outside world might be the Others (or whoever made them crash) using the children as bait to coerce the parents to some end (perhaps bringing down DHARMA, Hanso, etc. if the Others really are the good guys.
On another note, I wonder if the mini-eps will be good. haha, the characters stumbling upon a video camera couldn't be further from what I imagined.

^ I hope the island isn't radical therapy for rich kids. (Think Fincher's "The Game"... although that was a great movie).

- The Egyptian Hieroglyphics roughly translated to "Underworld". Granted they could have several meanings, that’s the meaning the writers were aiming for.I think we can all assume now that Walt and Daddy will be back (as if any of us thought they wouldn't) and now we know how they will deal with Walt's inevitable growth spurt
I thought the hieroglyphics were already confirmed to mean "cause to die" by several sources, that is strange

Couple new things but mostly a summary of what they said at the panel:
http://spoilerfix.com/images/new.gif 07/22 - Among the revelations to come: Viewers will learn more about Desmond and Penny, why Locke was paralyzed, why Libby was in the asylum, and why the island has healing powers. Source: Sci Fi Wire (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/)
http://spoilerfix.com/images/new.gif 07/22 - The smoke monster is definitely not made of nanobots. Kate will "make her choice" in the first six episodes of the season. Her choice is presumably between Sawyer and Jack. The word "clone" will never be heard on the show. The Powers That Be all but confirmed Libby will be appearing in flashbacks, most logically Desmond's or Hurley's. If you're asking about daddy issues, you're asking the right questions. Strong implication that an underwater hatch might exist and that it might be explored this season. The producers say the hieroglyphics on the timer translate to "underworld". Did you not watch the end of season 2? The incident that brought down flight 815 was not planned. It was caused by Desmond's decision to follow Kelvin. He didn't get back to the button in time and it caused the crash. The timing was a coincidence.

Your last sentence says it all. It could've been a coincidence, and that goes both ways.
KF2, with all the threads here on Quantum Physics, the time warp wouldnt be a surprise to some of us.
Why would anyone assume Kate's choice would be between Sawyer and Jack only? Fenry is in the house!

The season 2 finale was nowhere near that definitive. There's still no completely conclusive evidence that the Losties weren't brought there intentionally, that kelvin's ripped pants weren't a ploy to get Desmond out of the hatch at that moment in the time, or that the actual coincidence was that Desmond didn't stop the timer at the same time that the plane was planned to crash on the island anyway (see clayseason1's 'Paik's Plan' thread). http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21825

Desmond was begging to be let out of the hatch. Kelvin didn't need to rip his survival pants as a ruse to get Desmond to follow him out into the jungle. If Kelvin wanted the timer to run out just let Desmond out the door. No ploy needed.

One additional key spolier (vague as it is) from the Comic con - Per AICN is as follows
There will be a major revelation midway through the season that Lindelof said will either blow you away or make you say the show has jumped the shark.
I would have to assume this is the revelation of who "him" is - Any other ideas?

It's still possible that the reason they went off course and started heading toward the island in the first place was because the Others wanted them there. Desmond's failure to press the button could have easily just made their landing on the island less smooth than originally planned.
Merging with the ComicCon spoiler thread. Please continue there. Thanks.
- The name of the first Episode of Season 3 will be "A Tale of Two Cities"
- They're still in the process of writing the First Episode of Season 3.
Seeing as how I am a HUGE Charles Dickens fan, and that A Tale of Two Cities is my second fav Dickens book, thought I would give a shout out on this one. The cities in the book were London and Paris. In Lost, the cities seem to be Sydney and Los Angeles, but London and Paris could be the places. And if so, that seems to bode well for a Desmond-Pene Season opener.
Forgot the mention the part where DL said JJ will be back to co-write an episode, and may possibly direct an episode this season. That was the best news I heard at the panel.

Hmm...they didn't say we wouldn't hear the word "Doppleganger" or "Human Duplicate" ......
A disappointed fan asked if they were surprised that they didn't get an Emmy nod for Best Drama. Lindelof said, "We were disappointed and a little bit surprised. We're very proud of season 2. Was it a different show than season 1? Absolutely, and season 3 will be different than both." Lindelof also asked why "Battlestar Galactica" was also overlooked by the Emmy's to much applause. "I think that tells you something about what the tastes are," said Lindelof. "We don't write the show to get Emmys, we write it because it's cool and we want you guys to like it."
So, basically complete denial. Nice to see how you handle an Emmy snub, Damon. "We don't write the show to get Emmy's, we write it like crap because we think it's better that way!"

No want wants to admit that their precious baby is a little $h!t when it hits the terrible 2's. But they grow out of it. And I hope the show does as well.
With that mindframe I don't see how they could. If you listen to the podcasts you know what I mean. It seems like they don't take - anything - seriously. Sometimes they talk about the twists they introduce like it's a game, like it means nothing, or like it's totally awesome and mindblowing when it's just predictable and boring. Oh well, I'll be watching anyway.

Even their excuses aren't very good, creatively speaking. :rolleyez:
It's all about the writing. Evidently the same idiots responsible for the writing in S2 were also tagged to write the "We don't write the show for the Emmy's" speachs. As much as things change, the more they stay the same.
