I think we need a bitterness check in here.

Threads sink or swim on their merits, by the way. If you start a thread about nothing, and no one wants to jump on board and make it something, you may just have to build a bridge. And get over it.

I think that it's a bit rude to unload some petty greivances in what is a thread about good birthday wishes to a poster that we all love, that has helped me at least, and I'm sure many other people, and I think that he deserves a WHOLE THREAD, ALL FOR HIM, for us to wish him happy birthday and tell him how much we love him.

If such a thread didn't have merit, and wasn't important, it wouldn't last very long on the Lostaways page 1, would it?

Let me say, TPTP, that you are very, very appreciated here, that the majority of us enjoy your posts, enjoy your help, we love you, and we wish you much happiness on your birthday. :Cheers:

We have threads - what are you eating right now? What song are you listeing to?

If I created a new thread - What did you eat 2 hours ago? or What song were you listeing to 45 minutes ago - they would be locked or merged (as well they should be) as duplicates.

The other night, I wanted to prove a point when I created a thread and waited to see if it would get locked because the thread (like many on this site) was about nothing, However, I stated it as such which was a no no. I would just like to see consistency in the rules in creating threads on this site. There are too many threads and 99% of the ones locked should be. I am just pointing out that there are a lot of other threads that are no better and should also be locked.

However, I have no issue with TPTP personally - and I appreciate his support & guidance for what is my favorite thread - NMM so I do extend a him a Happy Happy Birthday!:Cheers:
Just about every "regular" poster here has a birthday thread devoted to them. That's partially why the Lostaways forum exists, to promote a feeling of "community" amongst its posters. Try a boolian search for "birthday" in the titles here in Lostaways....know what you'll find? About 66+ threads relating to various members, myself included. I've even started a few of those myself.

Yes, if you created threads titled as those that you mentioned above, they would be most likely locked or merged very quickly. The difference, the birthday threads have a purpose whereas threads such as those you mentioned above have none. They are what we consider "post-whore" threads and they'll be dealt with accordingly.

I apologize if you don't agree with the reasoning behind why we allow the many birthday threads we have here. They serve their purpose though. They are part of the community interacting. If you don't like it, then I suggest you find a forum that conforms to you what you consider "acceptable".

As long as they're done, here, within our guidelines, we don't have a problem with them at all. And considering I'm one who has the authority to have an actual worthwhile opinion on this, I suggest you take these words to heart.

The birthday threads stay. Period. End of conversation.

Well, I had a huge, elaborate celebration in the works, involving the ritual sacrifice of six veterans, but even the best plans fall apart sometimes (damn, why do I always screw everything up?).

So I guess all I have to give you is my post (and hey-- I use my posts sparingly, you know). All crap aside... I'm glad that you ever happened on this site, and grateful for all that you've done for a place we all enjoy so much. I happy that you put up with me, even when I'm being impossible and exasperating, and thankful that I've had a chance in the past year to get to know you.

Come August 1st, I'll get back to blaming you for the extreme heat and humidity we've had around here, for my car breaking down, for keeping J.K. Rowling from writing more Harry Potter books, for Mad Cow Disease outbreaks, for lostpigeon's spelling and grammar, and for the insanely long hiatus we're slogging our way through-- if only you'd let Damon and Carlton out of your basement, none of this would be happening.
