THE BEGINNING

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Webmaze%20Pics/Apollo%20Candy/thebeginning1.jpg

Never in his wildest dreams could M. David Benson have imagined how this moment would change everything. It was 1964. He had just delivered, from the back of his beat-to-the-bolts 1958 Jeep FC-150, the very first crate of Apollo Bars to San Fransisco's legendary J. Pickersweet's Five and Dime.

Benson knew this was the moment of truth. If Pickersweet like what you had to sell, profit and prosperity would most certainly follow. But if he took issue with your product...
Benson held his breath as Pickersweet bit into the impossibly rich, unimaginably creamy Apollo Bar. A full, heart-wrenching ten seconds passed.

And then the miraculous happened.

Pickersweet's mustache curled up above a grin that stretched from ear to ear. The Apollo Bar had landed in the Golden Gate City.

THE MAN

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Webmaze%20Pics/Apollo%20Candy/theman1.jpg

Born in 1938, M. David Benson is the child of Nils Christer Benson, son of Oskar Benson, founder of Scandinavia's revered Benson Chocolatiers.
Some would say Benson was a child of strife. His grandfather, Oskar Benson was a man of tradition. Upon learning of his son's engagement to a woman well below his station, Oskar turned his back on Nils, cutting him from the family inheritance. Leaving Norway with his pregnant wife, Elli, Nils established a new life in the U.S., joining the U.S. Marine Corps in December of 1941. Sadly, however, Nils Benson lost his life on Omaha Beach just a few short years later.

Like many immigrants, the widowed Elli Benson felt a strong sense of patriotism for her adopted country. Her husband had dies defending America, and M. David Benson was raised to cherish his homeland.
M. David Benson served America in the Korean War, and recounts the moment when he, too, discovered that chocolate ran through his veins:
"The six of us were pinned down - scared witless. I knew we'd be lost if we didn't come together. So, I rifled through my pack and found it -- the Benson Chocolate Bar mom had sent. They were expensive. She was poor. But once a month, like clockwork, and even with death staring us in the eye, not a one of us could deny the smile on his face. It was dead midnight, but for that sweet moment, as we ate that Benson Bar, the sun came up for us all".

It was in that foxhole that M. David Benson first envisioned the Apollo Bar. Less than two years later, that vision had become a reality. And, the rest, as they say, is history.

THE COMPANY

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Webmaze%20Pics/Apollo%20Candy/thecompany1.jpg

Starting with only the milk chocolate recipe given to him by his grandfather, Oskar Benson, M. David Benson began the Apollo Candy Company in 1962, out of a one-room factory in San Fransisco's legendary Cow Hollow district. By 1964, Benson had perfected the recipe for his affordable, yet exceptionally delicious, Apollo Bars, and began distributing them citywide. By 1968, the fledgling company had secured distribution outlets nationwide.

Sadly, in the early 1970s, the Apollo Candy Company fell into dire straits. However, due to the considerable financial intervention of Alvar Hanso, founder of the worldwide philanthropic organization, The Hanso Foundation, the company was saved from bankruptcy...and infused with new life. Today, the Apollo Candy Company is alove and well as the private purveyor of chocolates for Alvar Hanso and his many companies.

THE JEEP

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Webmaze%20Pics/Apollo%20Candy/thejeep1.jpg

Once he'd perfected the Apollo Bar's recipe, M. David Benson found himself in a predicament: he's spent all but his last cent on starting the company...which left him no means to travel and hawk his sensational new chocolates.

The short of it? He needed a truck, and fast.

But, how? And which truck? This was no small decision. Choosing a distribution vehicle was about more than just getting a box of Apollo Bars from here to there. Whatever Benson chose to drive, he knew it would forever be associated with the Apollo Candy Company. It would represent his family, and the image of the company he was trying to lift off the ground -- for good or ill.

Luckily, fortune smiled on Benson once again. A close friend had just moved to the Big Apple and had no more need for his 1958 Jeep FC-150 Truck. It was beaten up, dirty, looked like it had no business rolling on city streets, but Benson took one look at that jeep and knew it was the perfect truck -- not only was it affordable, it was a vehicle as rugged and durable as the Amreican spirit.

600,000 miles and 44 years later, Benson still prefers his Jeep FC-150 to other vehicles in his fleet. As he's been known to boast, "Apollo himself would gladly give up both horse and chariot for a chance to ride in my Jeep FC-150!"

THE APOLLO BAR

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Webmaze%20Pics/Apollo%20Candy/theapollobar1.jpg

After his tour ended, Benson knew what he had to do. He would bring the Benson Bar to America, but with a change. He would make it affordable, but with no sacrifice to quality, so that every American, regardless of class, creed, or station could come together through the simple delight of the world's richest, creamiest milk chocolate.

Bringing this proposal to his grandfather, a man he barely knew, Benson was devastated to learn Benson Chocolatiers had gone under, the brand sold to a British candy manufacturer. However, Oskar Benson had a surprise for his grandson. Having missed out on his childhood, hoping only to reconnect after so many regretful years, Oskar Benson offered his grandson the most valuable of family secrets: the original, secret recipe for Benson Milk Chocolate.

Working from this recipe, it was only a matter of time before M. David Benson concocted the recipe for the "The Apollo Bar", a confection fit for the Greek god of light himself.

I'll probably live to regret this but... there is something on the Apollo bar itself in the lower right hand corner of the page that is unwrapped. Crappy work compy monitor doesn't have resolution enough to make out what it says. Doesn't look like Apollo to me though...

I think all this just makes the fact that Apollo bars don't come in DHARMA branded wrappers make perfect sense, they still come in DHARMA tins but obviously Alvar has a soft spot for this candy...

Why are there always Apollo bars? THF owns the Apollo Candy Co.

Simple....

Murky Majare

Clicking on the wrapper of the candy itself on the main page, changes it to an unwrapped(ish) version, then a broken one, then back to normal.

EDIT:
Noticed that each time I open the page and click on the wrapper, it "breaks" so that one piece is under the 'the company' tag, but after going to another apollo page and back to the main page, it now centers under a yellow star above it.

I'm sittin here playin around with the candy bar pics yal posted, and am making a little progress....

The spaces/exact number of letters in the url is hard to tell, but at first I felt almost certain that the e was the last letter (ie - __e.com) but now I'm not so sure. I am, however, certain that e is one of the letters.
I offer this comparison:

whine.com was created way back in 1995, and leads to a blank page with a "nothing to see here".

where.com leads to a page with a lot of pictures on it... It was created eons ago in 1994, but was last updated earlier today. Haven't found anything lost'ish related though

Are we certain that the picture of the kid eating the bar reads 'wh... .com' (with space for 2-3 more letters) ?

A few other sites seems insistent on it being a very long word/sentence.

DeathMountain
08-08-06, 11:26 PM
It looks like in the empty space after "wh" you could fit a round letter like "o", "c", "a" or another "e". (Don't think that was addressed. I'm kinda out of it tonight so I may be making obvious observations.)

Rocky Raccoon
08-08-06, 11:29 PM

I'm not good at making screenshots or anything like that, but I think the candybar-unwrapped/broken in the two versions have their shadows and bulks a bit differently.

So, I was wondering if someone could post screenshots of both and work with all four images to decipher its meaning?

I mean, why go through all the trouble of programming this difference if it is for no use?

Are we certain that the picture of the kid eating the bar reads 'wh... .com' (with space for 2-3 more letters) ?

I was totally incorrect in my earlier post about the number of letters in the url. I edited my post and took out the erroneous information.
My best guess as of right now would be:

wh(o, e, or a) ? e _ h _ e.com

I will now ramble.
The lower-case letters of the alphabet can be separated into a few groups, some in more than one group at a time, based on dimensions.
a, c, e, o - the round group. All of them are basically the same size. b, d, g, p, and q also fit into this group, but their stems make them stick out. Their height is greater than the first four.
b, d, f, h, i, k, l, t - letters that stick UP. "j" also fits here with its similarity to "i", but it also belongs in the next group.
g, j, p, q, y - letters that stick DOWN.
n, u, v, x, z - not much about these sticks out. They're just ordinary letters.
m, w - letters that stick OUT. Their width is greater than other letters.
f, i, j, l, r, t - skinny letters, basically. These letters got nothing to eat as children.
Why do I sound so serious!?
Moving on, I think I see a "ph" on the part under the gold wrapper. I'm pretty sure about the "h", not so much the "p".
Minus the spaces, it might be w h o/e/c _ p h _ _ . c o m

Just a random thought here.....

I was under the impression that this url would probably have something to do with chocolate or candy....
But what about APOLLO....not the candy, the GOD.
I was brainstorming with my brother and he said "weren't yal talkin about a Persephone before? It might be some sort of Greek Gods name..."

Just food for thought ;)

Heh... interresting sidenote.

Leto, the Titan and mother of Apollo (and his twin sister Artemis) was hunted by Hera, and Leto hid on an island which Hera could not see/find and gave birth to the two children there.

Interresting when compared to the theories about our island being invisible to God even, (and mere mortals), and with the statue of that ancient four toed whatnot (a Titan perhaps?)

I know this is not really related to clues, but I will just say that TPTB could make a TON of money if they released the last few glyphs via a "golden ticket" like process and actually sold these candy bars. Just reading this thread I need to go find some chocolate to kill the craving. :D

Have a (candy) barcode in front of me right now, and it has zeroes in it, and having checked several other barcodes, they appear to all have 12 digits (plus a control value), and our apollo bar code is only 6, so there might be another half out there somewhere...

... or it might be a red herring.

At any rate... if done correctly, the bars are grouped and each represents a number between 0 and 9. (and visa versa).
(With 12 digits we would have an ip address, but alas, we only have six digits).

I'm not giving up on this candy bar url just yet.

I've looked at this thing for some time now (despite internet connection problems I'm having) and I *think* I may be on to something....

I said before, what I'm workin with is something close to this:

whe _ e. _ _ _ e.com

Yep. Just like stophanso.rachelblake.com, I think its a split url. Not one long word (and I could be TOTALLY wrong about this too :p)

The reason I think this is cause I was lookin at the size of the lettering and the spacing, and between the last letter I can identify (the e) and the following character doesn't leave enough space for another letter.
So I compared that general area with that which we know is .com and it really looks like a . goes where I put it above.

Again, I could just be goin blind from staring at this for so long ;)

It doesn't look like ".com" at the end, at least not to me. More like "ev_" perhaps? However, I think the process of enlarging may only end up distorting what might be there.

ETA: Yeah, ignore the blurred letters, as something with the resizing/rotating has distorted the original. It could certainly be ".com"... Here's a better shot:

CONFIDENTIAL MEMORANDUM

Apollo Candy

FROM: G. Downs

Date: July 21, 2004

RE: Test Study

Dr. Hackett,

Initial research shows release of the psychotropic compound to be
a success. The acid and flavoring agents of the beverage disguise the
taste. More tests are necessary to reach optimum viral spread. My superiors are eager for you to join our effort, once you have extricated
yourself from your current situationn.

Well, Vanda, now that you mention WhoIs....

I've been trying to get an IP address for this site so I can Reverse IP it like I did with rachelblake.com to find hansoexposed.com to see what else is there.
I went to a translator site (that I cant find anymore for some reason) and got the IP for this site finally. However, it was that of thehansofoundation.org - and apollocandy.com does NOT show up on a Reverse IP query for it - which means they figured out how to hide the sites from us after we found hansoexposed.com a month early.

On the site, it gives reasons for needing the OBS car video survillance, and the LAST ONE was:
Have you ever been in a car accident and needed evidence of the incident?
Hmmmmm. Maybe John Locke is in a wheelchair due to this, OR MICHAEL knew who hit him. The examples all show a Mercedes driving. A Merceds is a car a Widmore could afford. I know it wasn't a Mercedes that hit Michael, but perhaps the car that hit him, and Locke, was equipped with the OBS, and maybe the car was driven by Penny Widmore's alcoholic boyfirend, Desmond. May be grabbing at straws here and this probably belongs in another forum, but it is nevertheless an odd coicidence (did I mention I LOVE them) Jeez, I wish someone was in the chat room.

ANOTHER COINCIDENCE perhaps.
Since this thread is about apollo chocolate though, I'll get back on track and assume, this is why Henry Gale asked Locke and Jack if they had any milk. Everyone knows milk chocolate is the best :-)

ETA
I found this segment of the interview to be the most interesting. This is a direct quote from Jim Meigs and is unedited
JAMES MEIGS: No, we, we didn't come to any conclusions in advance. In fact, you know, there are certain things that conspiracy theorists claim that aren't completely beyond the pale, such as the idea that maybe a US military plane actually shot down the jet - Flight 93 - over Shanksville, Pennsylvania. I mean that's not a bizarre thing to wonder about, and if there is evidence that might support that, that's an important thing to look into. So, we went into it with an open mind. But when we traced these facts back to the source, they evaporated. They fell apart. I mean in the case of Shanksville, a lot of websites talk about a mysterious white plane that was seen circling the wreckage, and there's debate as to whether it was an unmarked Air Force plane or it had some kind of electro-magnetic device which would have forced the plane down. Well, we located the plane, talked to the pilot. It was just an ordinary commercial flight that happened to be on approach to a nearby airport. The FAA asked it to go in and confirm that a plane had crashed there, and it did that, and they went on their way

There's a link in the apollocandy.com swf to http://www.apollocandy.com/apollo_UK.swf (http://www.apollocandy.com/apollo_UK.swf) (doesn't exist yet) next to the link to http://www.apollocandy.com/apolloUS.swf (http://www.apollocandy.com/apolloUS.swf) which was activated today. So I think there will be a UK distribution at some point in the future.

Well the WhoIs for this site is finally showing results that let me do a reverse IP check. Unfortunately they didn't give the result I was hoping for (more new sites). All I found was that this site is on the same server as THF, RB, etc.

So either the site on the bar isn't set up yet, or there is no site on the bar. (I think there is a site, but just not online yet...we'll find out in a few weeks ;))

Truff, I was just wondering.....what about:
djdan.am & retrieversoftruth.com

Are these also on the same server. I don't know how to look-up djdan.am, but I did check the retrieversoftruth site on whois.com (http://whois.com/EasyDomainSearch.aspx?isavailable=no) and this is what I found:
Domain Name: RETREIVERSOFTRUTH.COM
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: NS72.WORLDNIC.COM
Name Server: NS71.WORLDNIC.COM
Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
EPP Status: clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 08-Aug-2006
Creation Date: 07-Jun-2006
Expiration Date: 07-Jun-2007

Is ROT on the same server as the other sites? I really don't understand this stuff, but it looks like a second server. I could not get all the info I can for sites like rachelblake.com. This message was toward the bottom.
The IP address from which you have visited the Network Solutions Registrar WHOIS
database is contained within a list of IP addresses that may have failed
to abide by Network Solutions' WHOIS policy. Failure to abide by this policy can
adversely impact our systems and servers, preventing the processing of
other WHOIS requests

Just an observation...but the ROT site has a creation date of June 7, 2006. Does this mean we can't use the creation date of a site in order to help figure out whether it might or might not be in game?

I may move these posts over to the RoT thread....but....
The RoT site is hosted along with several other verizon sites, including richerdeeperbroader.com and broadbandstories.com

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/truffula/Webmaze%20Pics/RoT%20site/RoTreverseIP1.jpg

Alot of the in-game sites were created in a 2 week block in April, but as you noticed, this isn't always the case. In this example, ABC likely paid Verizon to host the RoT site with the other new Verizon ad sites, and allow little things to be hidden on RDB and BBstories.
A little Reverse IPing and WhoIs lookups will help us tell what sites are in-game and which are not as far as namesake sites go (non public sites like flickr and myspace).

Now as far as DJ Dan's site, for some reason I can't get an IP, but the WhoIs record shows the site hosted on Media Temple's servers, which is an indication that the site is in-game:

May be grabbing at straws here and this probably belongs in another forum, but it is nevertheless an odd coicidence (did I mention I LOVE them)

Although, at the bottom of the page, there is a pic of 4 people from popular mechanics. one is editor in chief Jim Meigs . When I googled Jim Meigs, I got THIS:
http://www.onthemedia.org/transcripts/transcripts_022505_truth.html

Does this mean that my original finding (wherearewe.com) could eventually be game fodder??? Like I said, I don't play the game and apologize to Truff and Pan and ALL of you who have devoted the whole summer to this game. It peaked my interest AFTER I read BAD TWIN, and found the character of Mandrake Wig to be the most intriguing. I just think the interview with Jim Meigs entitled The PLANE truth, and the remarks about electromagnetism bringing down the the plane over the Pentagon (sort of a dHARMA SHAPED BUILDING) JUST SEEM TOO COINCIDENTAL TO ME. If the next step in the game goes in another direction, I'll never post in the webmaze forum again.
Truff, you're my Mandrake Wig , and your opinion is valued.
Thanks for your time all!

hmm, I was checking out the "the man" section and the expiry date of the chocolate bar is oct 23 06. could that be a code for somthing eg. glyph? or is it a date for something? lost episode perhaps? I'm also wondering, if hanso can make ranch dip that doesn't expire, unrefrigirated, for 3 months (or whatever the amount of time is) how can he not make an unexpirable chocolate bar?

The text is Lorem Ipsum

Lorem ipsum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In publishing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Publishing) and graphic design (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphic_design), lorem ipsum (or simply lipsum) is standard placeholder text (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placeholder_text) used to demonstrate the graphic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics) elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typeface), typography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typography), and layout (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layout). Lipsum also serves as placeholder text in mock-ups of visual design projects before the actual words are inserted into the finished product. When used in this manner, lipsum is also called greeking.
Although using "lorem ipsum" often arouses curiosity due to its resemblance to classical Latin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin), it is not intended to have broader meaning. Where text is visible in a document, people tend to focus on the textual content rather than upon overall presentation, so publishers use lorem ipsum when displaying a typeface or design in order to direct the focus to presentation. "Lorem ipsum" is also said to approximate a typical distribution of letters in English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language), which helps to shift the focus to presentation.
The most common lorem ipsum text reads as follows:

At this point it seems unlikely to be in-game simply because it appears to be a sub-domain of an already established web presence - saturation.com. That could be to throw us off for now, but also it could be a coincidence. Guess we'll find out!

I plan on being in philly on 9/9, and on a side note Pats cheesesteaks are way overratted. They are better than the steaks at most other places in the area, but i've been watching the quality of the food being served there go down for a few years now. Don't get me wrong, they ARE good, i just wouldn't build it up to what the "word of mouth" has built them up to.

10 years ago, there wasn't a better cheesesteak on the planet, its really a sad thing.

Bored, decided to go back to apollocandy.com. The pictures that are floated in on top of the candy bars have changed. On "The Beginning" page, the cake is now a strawberry shortcake-like thing. On "The Company" page, the hot air balloon is different. And on "The Apollo Bar" page, the melted chocolate is different.

I have no idea what this means/whether it means anything. Is it possible that "cake," "balloon," and "chocolate" need to be entered somewhere? I tried sublymonal.com, but I didn't get anything. It seems really strange to me that they would bother to replace those pictures with ones representing the same concepts, but slightly different.

Any thoughts?

I already posted a small theory here about the expiry date. to refresh memories, my idea was that the "expiry date" was actually the valinzetti equasion's answer. remember, the bar only says "enjoy before 10/23/06" no mention of expiration. hey if hanso can make ranch dip that doesn't go bad in months, why not a chocolate bar?

In regards to the above, I haven't seen this mentioned in this thread, but the Apollo Bar that Kate eats in "Adrift" has an expiration date of Oct. 23, 2004. Here's a screencap:

More fodder for theories that propose some kind of weird time shift is going on or that Lost is a fictionalization of the ARG. . .

So I noticed that the apollo candy company is a subsidiary of the hanso group, not the hanso foundation, so I put in www.thehansogroup.com (http://www.thehansogroup.com) and got the shutdown page. After searching some of the threads here, it seems that thehansogroup.com was the pre-TLE hanso site. My question is has thehansogroup.com pointers to thf.org for a while now, or is this something new?

Yeah, I haven't really been to the site since the last update with new release locations, but now it seems like you can pick which view you want to see of the bar on the main page (wrapped, semi-unwrapped, or broken). I'm not sure if that's new or not. Also, there is the UK Distribution button that was mentioned before. All I'm getting with that is Loading . . . though. :)

It's been that way. I was able to slowly unwrap the candy bar last week. The new pictures and the UK Distribution button has been there for a few days...all it does currently is say "loading." As far as I can tell, and from comments on other sites, nothing has changed yet. Truff said something about a subdomain or mirrored website.
Could be a subdomain of either thelostexperience.com OR apollocandy.com where it shows up. Many are thinkin because "Grendel" reversed the logo for TLE.com on the mainpage that the subdomain would be a mirror of one of the two names, giving the following:
ecneirepxetsoleht.thelostexperience.com
-or-
ydnacollopa.apollocandy.com
He might be onto something...keep an eye out.

UPDATE.

UK Distribution button now active.

Text as follows:

Back in 1964, when that very first, sinfully scrumptious Apollo Bar planted a 10,000-watt smile on J. Pickersweet's face, could M. David Benson have possibly imagined his brilliant confection would one day be available worldwide?

The Apollo Candy Company is proud to announce the Apollo Bar, the world's most delectable chocolate sensation, is now available, for the first time ever, in the UK!!!

How can I get one, you ask?

It's easy! We're giving them away! While supplies last, simply go to your nearest Forbidden Planet store (from Thurs 24th August) and say the daily code. Trust us! Your tummy will thank you.

Thursday's code is "Alvar Hanso".
Good eating, UK!!

Wow, I sure have missed a lot today. That's what I get for sleeping late.

Anywho, it's been speculated that the web address that is hidden under the Apollo candybar wrapper is www.whereisalvar.com. I think it was determined that that domain was owned by the same people that own some of the other domains in th game (correct me if I'm wrong). However, that address has been blank...until now.

Now there is a password login.

Anyone have any clues as to what that could be? Or do you think that we going to get the password from one of the Apollo bar givaways?

You are correct, Duality :)
in this post (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=889202&postcount=170) LostEmissary found that whereishere.com, which Truff thought was the URL from the candy bar, seems to be part of an established web presence, and not in game.

Truff did earlier say here (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=874031&postcount=86) that he doubted whereisalvar.com was in game due to the relatively recent date it was registered, but it certainly appears to be in game, although technically I think someone could set up those redirects to THF.org and persephone.thehansofoundation.org themselves.

although technically I think someone could set up those redirects to THF.org and persephone.thehansofoundation.org themselves.

Without getting too technical, not really, because they are not redirects. The whereisalvar.com domain resolves to the same IP address as thf.org so it has to be that server which is serving up the login box. No real way to fake that.

The game developers have been requiring a login into the new sites before they go live, I would guess so that they can test them for a few days before the let everyone else in. This one will probably follow the same pattern.

But all three changed, the cake, the balloon and the.... vortex thing, so it could be something...

You know, soon after I originally posted my finding about the picture changes, I thought the same thing. Something like. . .the guy at the design firm who was supposed to create the photos dropped the ball, and they were rushing to get the website up, so they just used some stock images until the real images were complete. If you'll all remember correctly, apollocandy.com went live days after it should have as it was (if we assume that it should have gone live in concordance with the release of the magazine).

Furthermore, all three images now do have an official connection to the site - the cake has the Apollo logo, so does the balloon, and the melting chocolate has a corner of the actual chocolate bar (you can see fragments of the letters on the piece of chocolate).

At this point, I'm thinking it's meaningless, beyond those who would like to complain about the ARG. (Not me!)

I don't know what does it, or why it does it, but sometimes it will appear one way, and the others it will appear the "new" way. I noticed that there were two different angles the bar could appear at the very first time I was browsing around the site. The very first time I went there it was the "original" way, but after clicking around the site a bit, it was the "new" way/angle. Either way, it's not something that's been updated recently. Not that it's not necessarily significant in any way, but it's not something new.

'Lost': Grab an Apollo bar

The third season of Lost is so close, you can practically taste it. In fact, you can taste it -- in the form of a complimentary Apollo bar. Below, find the complete press release from “The Apollo Candy Company, a subsidiary of The Hanso Group.” (We’ve redacted the contact phone number until we’re absolutely sure it’s part of the game.) Knowing what you now know, would you willingly bite into any air-dropped, Hatch-stored, Hanso-affiliated foodstuff?
Also, let’s begin a running tally of everyone who’s enjoyed the “out-of-this-world” taste of an Apollo: We can assume Hurley ate one (though I believe we only saw him eat one in a hallucination), and Kate devoured one in a long, very deliberate mini-sequence, shortly after the discovery of the Hatch. Are her horsey hallucinations somehow connected to Apollo consumption? Is the “out-of-this-world” thing a clue to an alien thread? (I sure hope not.) Also: Am I hungry? Yes. Not quite hungry enough to consume edible schwag, but certainly hungry enough to raid the breakroom Swiss Miss box. Back soon…
(See the complete release after the jump...)

COMING TO A GALAXY NEAR YOU: “APOLLO BAR,”
THE CHOCOLATE BAR THAT’S OUT OF THIS WORLD
Free Apollo Bars to Be Distributed for a Limited Time
In Select Locations Across the U.S., U.K., Australia And Asia
What once was lost, now is found… Apollo Bar, the scrumptious chocolate bar developed in the 1960s by M. David Benson, has been enjoyed by generations of consumers. For those who’ve yet to taste Mr. Benson’s bars, your opportunity to “discover what’s inside” awaits. Beginning Wednesday, August 23, free Apollo Bars will be distributed while supplies last in select locations throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Asia. The Apollo Bar is manufactured and distributed by the Apollo Candy Company, a subsidiary of The Hanso Group.
“Chocolate has been my life’s passion, and I am thrilled to be able to share my passion with people all over the world,” said Mr. Benson. “Once people taste my chocolate bar, I think they‘ll be hooked. I’d like to thank Mr. Alvar Hanso and the good folks at The Hanso Foundation for making this possible.”
Mr. Benson, founder of the “Apollo Candy Company,” distributed the first Apollo Bars in San Francisco, CA in 1964. The bars grew in popularity and were circulating across the United States by 1968 before the company fell into dire straits in the early seventies. However, due to the considerable financial intervention of Alvar Hanso, founder of the worldwide philanthropic organization, The Hanso Foundation, the company was saved from bankruptcy and infused with new life. Today, the Apollo Company is alive and well as the private purveyor of chocolates for Alvar Hanso and his many companies.
From August 23 through September, the Apollo Candy Company will distribute free Apollo Bars in cities throughout the U.S., including New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Chicago. For a complete list of dates and locations where people can get their free Apollo bar, and for more information on the Apollo Candy Company, please visit our website at www.apollocandy.com (http://www.apollocandy.com).
