I'm going to Times Square. I'll be there early with my laptop and digital camera. I'll scout out for the closest WiFi hotspot beforehand (the nearest one I can think of to the ABC studio off the top of my head is actually the McDonald's around the corner). I'll be looking for two possibilities:

1) A glyph on the big LED screen on the face of the ABC Studio building, or
2) A glyph inside the Apollo Bar.

If anyone else has any ideas about where else I should look, let me know.

If there are glyphs on the actual candy bar wrapper, then there probably are different ones on each of the stops.

Glyphs are announced publically really fast after they are found, and it would be kinda "boring" for those with a late date for the truck to stop by... at least glyph-wise.

Now having caught up on the DJ Dan stuff, it seems to me that there are going to be two separate Times Square events. One on Monday (superglyph) and one on Sept. 6 (Apollo Bar giveaway). To be honest, I'm down with the Apollo Bar hunt, but unless I can get a more specific idea of when the superglyph is going to be shown (again, likely on a giant LED screen), I'm not sure I want to sit in Times Square all day waiting. If they release more specific information about Monday, I'd be happy to do the same as I mentioned above.

Not much has made sense lately. For example, it didn't really make sense that Rachel was able to hide glyphs on wristbands worn by the creators and actors at comicon, but it happened.

If they set up a date in Atlanta...I will soooooo be there, but everywhere else is unfortunately just too far away. :(

So, this is really messed up, they also took down times and more exact locations at a lot of these places. I could imagine it being a messed up affair.

So here's my next question:

I guess they will give away candy bars to EVERYONE at some of these massive places? Surely, tons of people will take them that have no clue what TLE is, everyone loves free chocolate. WTF???? They should password protect it like the free Aus Bad Twin books. What if they run out by the time real players get there, because lots of random people take them, and just throw out the wrappers. I just had an odd in-game thought(which proves I've been at this too long) but I thought I'd share. Operating for a moment on the theory that this is real I've actualy thought that it makes sense for the evil minds at hanso to switch, particularly move up the dates if they'd gotten word our friend mel the medicore sign language dude was trying to warn us off so he wouldn't have time and means to do so.

Disclaimer I'm totally sane and following my little moment a far reasonable explanation is that in additioning to adding dates they may have chosen places that were more public and condusive to large scale distributtion as there were concerns with some locations(ie folks getting into the Bar and grill
but the first theory is much more fun :)

I don't care what the web site says. I'm gonna be at the Philly site on the date that was originally advertised.

I am truely hoping that Apollo bars will be there.
I will add the new dates and Guest list in the am when I am less mad and a tad bit more sober.
When signing up for cities that have more than 1 date or time please specify when you will be attending so that your Lost-TV friends can look for you.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am in the Minneapolis area, so I will totally be going to the State Fair to snag a bar. I mean, when you have a booth at the MN State Fair, everyone has to give away something. That's half the fun of the Fair - all the free stuff. So they will have tons and tons of those bars available. I was going to go anyways - now I have a really good reason!

I really hope these are dates in addition to the other dates. It doesn't make sense to make up dates, set venues, and everything, and then be like "Yeah, we won't be at your place that day - scratch that..."


ETA: I will probably be going on the 24th early in the morning. That is the day kids get in cheap. I've been looking on the MN State Fair website, and I can't figure out where they are going to be at the fair, or when. So, I will have to go by that too.

Sean, I disagree, this is much different than flyers. Not everyone is going to take a flyer (most people take and throw out)... but who would turn down free chocolate at a mall, regardless of whether you've heard what it's for? If they dont' give any times for these events and hand out to everyone, I guarantee that the large majority of TLE players that will go will leave empty handed. You're talking about how it *should* be, but in actuality, we know this ARG is not going to break the bank with the budget on the Apollo promotion alone.

Someone over at TLEC found out that you need to make reservations in advance to attend the ESPN event. Turns out it's a Fantasy Football Draft event (ugh). I'm thinking that these two crowds don't exactly mesh well, so I'm thinking that it's not going to be exactly related, but perhaps just in the same bar at the same time, in another location (seems like that place is pretty big). In any case, the page for the Fantasy Football event is here:

Again, I seriously doubt we would have to register for this event to get a candy bar, taking away space for people who are into Fantasy Football, but I reserved a spot just in case.

They haven't given a password for the US distribution dates, but if they ask for one, at this point I'd guess the password is "Acura."

Well, I'm glad to see that the original Sept. 6 date for ABC Studios in Times Square is back on. I'll definitely be there. My sister and I are also planning to attend the event at the Summerstage on Thursday (the 24th).

As for the other 2 NYC events, it's highly unlikely I'll manage to make it to the ESPN thing at Park Avenue Country Club, especially considering the fact that it seems TPTB only gave us about a day's notice on that one. (Nothing like waiting 'til the last minute, eh?) :rolleyez: Plus, I'll be working tomorrow, unfortunately. I might be able to see if someone I know in the City could check it out for me, but it's doubtful.

And as far as the NYC 1/2 Marathon goes, that's on Sunday, so theoretically, there shouldn't be a problem for me to make another trip into Manhattan on the 27th. The only thing is, I looked up some information on that marathon the other day; it covers a wide area, which begs the question: exactly where is the giveaway taking place? The starting point? The finishing point? I'm not wasting my time walking around aimlessly hoping that I know where to look.

hi guys - i just left the park ave country club ESPN event. there's a huge crowd there for the ESPN thing but the security told me that they cancelled the candy bar thing. they said that there was some confusion with the website and they weren't giving them out.

then i talked to another security guard and he knew that the candy bars were some kind of Lost thing. he said that Lost donated candy bars to the event and they put them in the gift bags for the attendees. I told him I was on the list (totally true, by the way) and he said there were over 500 people there and that the gift bags were long gone.

ok well now you can really say the bitch is back. Met up with Jeff and jis girlfriend, Dharma chick from Fuselage as well as Bunky and Crimson Rabbit also from Fuselage (who is so fast smelling BS I couldnt believe it), we waited on line till about 6pm. It was a big bogus BS event. we had reservations, asked about 10 different people working there in one capacity or another, no one knew anything about any candy at all. Ok, so I go up to a guy who looks all antsy (I'm being nice) and he has an all access pass around his neck tell him it's a promo for lost yada yada, he loves Lost, he goes in to find out something. He comes back tells us to get out of line and go to the side, now since we have reservations this doesnt sound right. Rabbit said this guy is jerking us around from the get go, the ESPN guy tells us this bs about he will get the bars for us, but that we have to find the clues to find the bars, then he says he's just kidding after he saw how we were looking at him. He looked at my face and says I'm not being nice, he was just going to get bars for everyone but not me, he thinks he's a comedian. He tells us there was a problem and there are no bars and some more crap he thought he was so witty. A bit later he comes with an ABC rep, Monica something, she says the website was giving out wrong info and we would have to go back and find out from the website ( one of us asked you mean the ABC site?) she said yes, more about these websites give out false information. I am saying oh no this was an official Lost website and it was even on the noon news on ABC about the candy giveaway. She has the cojones to shrug her shoulders and say well it's Lost, what do you expect. Everyone thought she was nice but I just thought she was so ill informed and condescending, I thought she was actually going to say ,it is what it si, thankfully she didnt. Jeff was funny tho, he saud well lets get on line again, we asked one of the many many security people there if we could get back in front and they saw what was going on, knew we were the first people there (not that it mattered) and let us in after checking that we were on the list, I didnt even use my reservation 'cause Jeff had plus 5 on his. I told that Monica that this isnt good PR we are fans that all post on line and know th egame etc. You shouldnt do that to fans. I really feel think they couldnt have cared less about us and just wanted us to go away. That ABC rep telling us to go back to our computers to see where the bars were, she made it seem like they were somewhere that if we went online we would get the clues. I had to outright ask her is this giveaway happening tonite somewhere and then she finally said no. She really thought we'd run off to the nearest computer and just leave. It's funny because one of us works nearby and said she would go back to her job to check online too, we are such good fans to even think of that. We went in I immediately take a Coke Zero (that was being promo'd) into my bag they had food no seats and no AC. I wasnt going to keep standing so wanted to go to a bar to chill and have a draft. Jeff saw the guy who found the Times Square Glyph, Marcus Allen Cooper so we talked to him. We wound up losing Jeffef and His girl, they walked off, we looked but maybe they left. Anyways by this time Crimson Rabbit left without me even knowing it, he never even came him into the venue. He was, rightly so, angry at the ESPN guy, he knew immediately there was no giveaway while the rest of us held out hope. So I'm home now and still wondering why they did that to us fans, as if our time isnt worth anything. I met some nice people that was about it, we are supposed to meet up tomorrow at Central Park but I just aint feeling it now. oh this too, the ABC woman said something about the site (she didnt even know this came from Apollocandy.com) was hacked and false info was released. Implying it was an ABC f&%$* up, that is why I got mad, they didnt own up to what happened at all. I have to chillax, but that's the story . I wonder what happened to Jeffef, I thought he would have been here before me. Check ITE and Fuselage to hear the others, I know we are going to complain to ABC about it, they need to get it together, maybe tomorrow's will be better, I hope so.

I asked the guy who posted the candy pic to lostpedia, and he said it was from that one "insider" (employee of the ARG or ABC promotion probably) who got a hold of the candy bars before they were distributed (of course he wishes to remain unnamed). That's how it ended up there so fast. The other people who have pics up at Apollo Candy seem to be from the UK so far.

PS: I wonder if the "golden" bars will be special clues to where Alvar is going? After all, that's the name of the site...

That's a good point, LE... I was wondering why there was no US people on WhereIsAlvar. Because even if you were some random nonplayer person who got a free candy bar, you'd think you'd be curious about the URL and login and try it out even if you had no idea what it was for. Your scenario makes more sense.

The fact that nobody who went there spotted a bar leads me to believe there were none in the first place. The person who talked to a security guard or event organizer or whatever and claimed that bars were put into gift bags or something may have been talking about some other kind of candy - not apollo bars. That could be where the confusion is coming from.

I just think that with all the the TLE fans that would have been hanging around last night, somehow at least a few of them would have gotten ahold of a bar or at least a wrapper at some point, but I have yet to see anyone claim to have even seen an apollo bar there.

OK, as Vee posted earlier, the DC/Tyson's tomorrow is associated with the blood drive 11-4 tomorrow on 2nd floor across from the Gap in the Fairfax Comm Center.

I called and found out more info. It is sponsored by ABC 7/WTOP, and there are "free ABC giveaways", so I suspected it was a gift after you donate, but I just called up a rep of INOVA and she said that the promotional people said nothing to her except that they would be handing out candy (so it doesn't sound like you HAVE to give blood... but I could be wrong). Big surprise, poor communication again!

Either way, I am going to be ready to roll up my sleeve myself tomorrow and donate (you have to register to do that). :) Actually, since I'm a doc and have done phlebotomy/blood draw volunteering in the past, I called them up to see if they need volunteers; if they do and they let me, I may be drawing some of your blood! :D (do we have a vampire smilie? :*[ )

For the Seattle/Redmond location at Marymoor park. After looking around online I came across the fact that tonight at the park a local radio station (KJR-FM)and the local ABC channel (Komo) are having a pre-season premier of two shows at Mcnair field at Marymoor Park tonight at 8:30.

I was just being sarcastic because it seems like nothing is allowed in GD anymore. So these "forbidden" threads get moved to spinoffs or spoilers. GD was very active and fun last Summer. There was a lot of threads in GD last Summer around this time that were hyping the new upcoming season. This included a thread discussing the season two posters and magazine ads, and threads discussing season 2 previews and commercials. Many people that normally don't go to spoilers enjoyed these threads and made GD very active. But now everything gets moved and all GD is left with is the nonmetallic metals thread. So now people that normally don't go in LE won't even now about these Apollo bars.

I was just being sarcastic because it seems like nothing is allowed in GD anymore. So these "forbidden" threads get moved to spinoffs or spoilers. GD was very active and fun last Summer. There was a lot of threads in GD last Summer around this time that were hyping the new upcoming season. This included a thread discussing the season two posters and magazine ads, and threads discussing season 2 previews and commercials. Many people that normally don't go to spoilers enjoyed these threads and made GD very active. But now everything gets moved and all GD is left with is the nonmetallic metals thread. So now people that normally don't go in LE won't even now about these Apollo bars.

Word from NYC about tonights giveaway:

Marcus from TLEC said... I'm still catching up, but the NYC distribution is over... the were only hired to do it til 8:30pm, so since they weren't allowed to give them out to people AT the concert... The lead girl went the route of a good promotions manager and moved the workers to a high traffic area where they could distribute the bars. She was not informed of the meaning of the bars ONLY to give them out. I talked to her later when they were finishing @ 8:30. The gave out most of what they had for today, but there's a bunch in somebody's car for Sunday all over the marathon route.

Hi, Pandora! I'm in New Market VA hoping to get to the mall around 11-ish tomorrow. I can't give blood due to several health conditions and I don't think any of my kids meet the minimum age requirement on giving blood, so they are going to have some very steamed people on their hands if you have to give blood to get the Apollo bar.

Vee, not sure if I updated the last thing I heard in this thread yet... but I talked to the blood drive lady (head coordinator, her name is Teri), and she is pretty sure that it won't be a give-blood-only incentive, for just those reasons you said. Hopefully we will both get em. I'll be wearing a red dress tomorrow. Maybe there with sculpey, may be there with some other people from other forums, not positive yet. Also may go back to volunteer in the afternoon.

Ok... well showed up at Marymoor park. Like I suspected the Apollo bars were supposed to be handed out at the Komo/KJRFM event at the park... yep... supposed to be...

they told us as we arrived that they were delayed and they were expecting them shortly... then about 7:50 pm or so, they announced they had good and bad news...

The bad news of course was that they were not going to be arriving at all for the event. Apparently according to the information given, they had not arrived at any of the events that day.

The good news they were taking names and contact information to get people who came apollo bars when and if they got ahold of them.

Now whether or not we'll ever see any of them, who knows...

I'd suspect 1/3 or so of the people at the event were there solely for the apollo bars... hehhe

Oh yeah and Hello to any of the people that made it out there. I was the guy in the tan pants with the blue hoodie.

Just back from the NYC event myself with 4 Apollo bars, no gold oracle (or whatever). I got there around 6:30, and saw a guy inside the venue opening a bar. I asked where he got it and he pointed outside the venue near the exit. There were 8 or so twenty somethings wearing Apollo t-shirts and holding bags of bars (I think they were just getting their instructions at the time I accosted them). They gave me the four bars without objection (there were three of us), but warned me not to eat them in the venue. I went into the venue to watch the performers, and when I left at about 8:45, they were no longer at their earlier position near the exit, nor anywhere around that I could see.

I just got back from Tysons with two Apollo bars. Things went incredibly smoothly at the event today. I met the devoted fans of the delightful VeeAyetheCPA family; the lovely Pandora X; a very nice lurker; Jonas I believe it, was from TLEC (he's the guy that made the incredible connections map) and someone from the Fuselage. Everyone had a very good time and I'd like to thank everyone from the local ABC affiliate for their courtesy and professionalism. We're a cultured city and we do things right here ;)

sculpey and I had a lot of fun!! Met Vee and her lovely family, also... plus all those other people... about 100 people there... and as sculp said, for once, the event went VERY smoothly. Everyone was civil and knew what they were handing out... when it was noon, they gave out bars to everyone in line, and me and sculpey got 2 each, plus a bunch of other freebies from WTOP/ABC. Then sculpey & I went out for sushi... all in all a great day... Looking forward to seeing Vee's pictures....

I went back to try and donate blood later, and ended up meeting 3 random TLE fans who missed the giveaway, because they thought they would give them out after donating blood, which they were on their way to anyway. I felt bad for them because they seemed like nice kids that drove a long way, so I gave them one of my bars. I will probably put the other bar up for "pay it forward/group sharing" on Miss Meg's Apollo Candy page (linked from front page of TLEC)... so I will be barless and not get to eat any of the candy. :( Tell me how it tastes, John! And I will see you guys there again for the Acura/ESPN thing on the 7th...

PS: Terminal, why the heck didn't you tell any of us you would be there? You also didn't add yourself to the 4815162342 list...

PPS: Yeah, I saw the ebay auction a while ago... a little irritating to see people profiteering, but I guess if there are people willing to pay for that, then who am I to complain...

Glad your event was well planned, how refreshing. It is great to meet people at these things, that was the only good thing about the one I went to.
