Sigh...flub, why do you continue linking to your blog?

I wish it was my blog but alas it is not. I link to that site becuase it normally has the latest Lost spoilers before other sites, plus I can get the feeds on RSS/Atom Newsreader to keep me up to date, rather that looking for spoilers across multiple Lost forums and sites. By getting feeds as soon as the author publish something I get notified immediatly and can publish here.

Thanks Angelica, I've no idea why this person is hounding or attacking me. I just come here like most people to catch up on spoilers of a show I love. I also like to help bring new spoilers to the forums attention.

The solution is easy though. Just post "source to come soon" and then edit your original post to include it. Honestly, the biggest deal here is the amount of times you've been formally warned by Leuthen about your posts. So again, I wouldn't have even tried to post it until you had a source considering your run-ins with the mods. I try to help out beforehand, because I'm a lot easier to deal with than them (and I can't ban). Nobody cares who posts what when. It's not a contest (we just had one of those, and this ain't it). The main criteria for a good spoiler is its reliability.

But as far as the site goes that you use, I think it would be fine to put "source coming soon", and then just update it. They did post the full source and article on that site pretty soon after you posted that. I just would've gone back and edited my original post.

Also, just so you know, we're not so concerned about your spoilers in particular being authentic. We're concerned with the others who aren't as reliable taking your lead as a new example. This board would become mayhem.

Hurley, that wasn't what I was aggravated with. I am one of those...'sort-of' regulars that don't really hop on everyday, but are here a few times a week and posting. The inbetween of a regular and a lurker I guess you could put it. Anywho, it was not about Flub's posting where he got the info, it was about the fact that this guy jumped on him about a BLOG. I mean, I know things can get tense but eeesh...telling him "I'm gonna check the IP Address" over a blog?....It had nothing to do with how Flub does his posting, but someone pitching a fit because he thought that the source was in fact his blog. :rolleyez:

I mean, I'm not gonna get into the whole "This is how you post a spoiler, and this is not how you post one" because I don't go hunting for spoilers so I'll never post one, therefore, I have no need to know the rules about them (even though I do), but once again, my aggravation was not caused by that. It's not the blog that matters, it's the spoiler, whether the source is credible, and is it true or not. I have read that.."Phantom pictures" thing, and think that it should be at least outlined in bold as an example of what not to do...although I'm sure that there are PLENTY of other examples as well.

Oh by all means...if they're anything like ArtistFormerlyKnown who makes stuff up just to get attention (AKA Troll), then yes..be indignant and borderline hateful...I'm not much for feelings on here..it's an internet forum. 99% chance is, I'll never meet any of you in person, so why should I worry about my feelings on here? Here's the deal...

The veterans are a bit nutso. They are skeptical, militant at times, at times mocking. But they are justified in this (yes, even LFG). As I said before, spoilers is an area that is CONSTANTLY being tested. Those of us that frequent it... well, let's just say that our patience has already been tested time and time again.

The relative newbies to the forum (note the diff between newbies and n00bs), or those that fluctuate between lurker and regular, are not always cognizant of the type of s--- that goes down in here. I agree that it is always best to be polite, but as it has been noticed, sometimes there are the trolls that just abuse us and every lurker that views this forum. So understand if we are a bit edgy.

To those that post spoilers: we appreciate you - those that post SPOILERS not FOILERS. Now, to understand this, you have to understand exactly what a Foiler is (in my understanding). In the most common definition, a Foiler is someone who knowingly comes to the board, and makes up some fake "spoiler" info with the sole purpose of throwing us all in a tizzy over something that isn't real. As I'm sure Leuthen will inform anyone, this is VERY VERY not-done, he will have you banned out of hand. HOWEVER, there are those foilers who aren't QUITE as intentional... such as, those who read something from a pre-described Foiler in some other medium (such as another Lost message-board), and re-post that information as a genuine spoiler.
Here's where it gets tricky. Because SOME of those sources (such as the famous secretagentman) have been recognized as legit. So there can't be quite a hard-and-fast RULE about this.
However, whenever you "re-post" a spoiler, either from a known source like secretagentman, or a blog like the one flub frequents, or TheMisfit, you run into dangerous territory. If it is not from a legit source such as actual media (newspaper, legit e-magazine, ABC, etc.), there is always the possiblity that is the work of a Foiler (of the original definition).

And THIS, flub and any others that find themselves in this situation, is why you will run into such criticism. No one is "jealous" of whoever FINDS the legit info-- god knows I'm not. It's just that we've ALL had our chains yanked SO many times, we have a very, very, very, very, VERY hard time believing anything that does not CLEARLY come from a reputable source.

Now, I'm not saying that EVERY source has to be straight from ABC. There are several people that leak info under-cover, some have been met with immediate skepticism and have proven true over time.

The point is, there is the foiler who makes up fake info for their own sick amusement, and there is the "innocent" foiler who posts things they believe are good, but do not have the sources to back it up, and so they unwittingly aid the original "evil" Foiler.

Flub, I am one of your fans and I have adored the spoilers you have brought to this forum, this summer. I've just seen you come under attack a lot, and I understand WHY, and I wanted to tell you maybe why this is happening.

I want every liar exposed, banned and burned in effigy. I hate being lied to. I hate the word "foiler", it's just too cutesy. A fake spoiler is a dam lie!

But, not every fake spoiler is posted by a liar. Some are posted by gullible newbs (not noob) and some highly skeptical vets have been tricked into believing a boatload of crap. These people do not deserve to be treated like Bumpy or Tivo.

We have a rule here on the forum, No Personal Attacks. When Tivo was posting as Shhhh, one of his tricks was taunting someone into attacking him and then calling for them to be banned. Don't fall into that trap.

Perfectly stated. It's usually pretty easy anyway just to tear down the bad spoilers using nothing but their own content. Personal attacks aren't really necessary to be effective.

I think reading through the "history of the forum" I have a much better understanding of why some comments were made to me about sources and links, and I now fully understand and accept where these people are coming from.

I will try my upmost best to provide as many links/info as possible when posting spoilers in the future and I'll listen to criticism a little better.
