"xxxxxxxxxx, as a surname, does not exist in this database, because it is not among the top 55,000 most common names in the US."
I could've guessed as much. I don't ever run into anyone with my surname.

D'oh.
I thought I had it...
I didn't expect it to be that popular though, I thought it was more of a UK-based surname.

Mine isn't even in the top 55,000
Its very heavy Latvian. No one can pronounce it and I've never seen anyone with the same last name other than my relatives.
ETA-my mom's maiden name isn't in it either, top that!

Mine isn't in it either. I'm half African so it's a hard one to pronounce and, like ijta, I've never heard of anyone but my relations with the same name.

Mine didn't make it.
Funny stuff. Mine is #8024, which is ridiculous since I've never met anyone with my last name other than family. However, my mother's maiden name is #1.

Neither my father's last name nor my mother's maiden name exist in this database--however, there's a city in France of the former and there's a coat of arms from the 16th Century for latter name.
Another funny thing is that even though neither name is in the database, you can find books, works of art, antique posters, wedding announcements, opinion columns, etc. by using google.

My maiden name 31,838, married name 162.
I never met anyone with my last name, even Portuguese people say it's rare, though it's a name of a town that was a Moorish stronghold. I only know me, my father and his wife who have it.
I'm not in the database, I kinda figured that.

I'm not in the database, I kinda figured that. I got the German last name, but the other half of my blood is Portuguese. Their side's last name is Ferrera (sp?), which I guess is like "Smith" over there.
XXXXXXX, as a surname, does not exist in this database, because it is not among the top 55,000 most common names in the US.
Thought so. :rolleyez:

Well, I expected to and now do, race on over to the, 'let me spell that for you,' group - I have the experience of having my phone number dialed up by someone who has my last name and is in the Portland area on business - a man, like many of us, who will always pick up and go through a local phone book to see if there is one of us in town. Last time it turned out to be a grandson of my father's evil step mother. (my dad was robbed, big time) -- anyway, when the guy figures out what camp I'm in, he becomes hesitant. I speak quickly to advise him that any of the old enmity that existed between the family, my father decided to forgive and forget -- a very long time ago and only the limitations of his physical condition kept him from driving back home or going to Michigan to look up family and mend fences. The guy audibly sighed and offered the prayer, "Oh, Thank God!" -- then I advise the true story of me confronting my dad two years before his death, on the very subject. He talked about her and maybe going to see her family and uhm .... well, I saw an opening and trusted my sneaky psychologist skills and pushed it. 'Dad, you know, I couldn't even remember her first name and I'll wager even you don't remember her maiden name. I only really remember her accent, her squeaky voice and that YOU really only detested her' .... and that is when he prayed "Oh God ... the anger and futility I allowed for so long, I wish I could tell her I'm sorry but it's too late, Oh God Forgive me."
We forgave each other (am hoping this gave dad any little bit of forgiveness still on the ledger) and promised to keep in touch, I reminded him, he had to have a reliable number listed in the phone book.
we both laughed
am now hoping someone steps in with a topper -

Well, it seems mine is #3869 in the country... But I agree with Leuthen, isolate it to the Virginia/North Carolina Appalachian region, and it will go up considerably. There is a large concentration of Scots/Irish in that area.

My married name isn't on the list, not that I'm surprised. No one can ever spell it or say it right. My favorite is when we put in our name in at a restaurant. It's always, can you spell that? If we do spell it, they don't get it close it right when they call our names. We just always tell then to spell it like it sounds.

I did this on MySpace just the other day....and it's still, 14209 in the USA! Gotta love those "mis-translated off the boat" irish names...
Mine is 3401, and my boyfriend's is 270.
If my sister and I both change our last names, our paternal (extended) family is done for. My last name is a mis-translation of the German word for "art".

I suppose I could always hyphenate any presumptive kid's last name (although I don't really want any). I do have to keep my last name professionally... at least.
