Re-watching Alvar's video in the webmaze, it struck me that I don't think that Mittelwerk is talking about just the small Sri-Lankan tests.

I think that the Hanso Foundation (ie Mittelwerk, since Alvar is missing) considers that the Dharma Initiative failed because the island's transmission stopped broadcasting the numbers.

In order to prevent the end of all humanity, they are now taking drastic action. I think that the Sri-Lankan tests are a fore-runner to a global-scale release of the virus. Their aim is to wipe out 30% of the world's population, thereby changing one of the vital numbers, and saving the rest of the world.

Unbeknownst to them however, Dharma is still alive and kicking, and trying other, less drastic ways to save the world.

Watch the video again. What do you think ?

What if the numbers did change and the hanso foundation are unaware of that? After all Danielle change the transmition... What if the original variables are not the ones we know (4815162342) and the DHARMA Initiative actually succeded in chaging the variables? Imaging what kind of a huge mistake Mittlewerk is about to make! The question is does he know that?

I'm sure Mittelwerk sees it as an inevitable but necessary loss, but I'm rooting for Dharma. Yay, go Fenry, go !

My only concern here timeline wise is if Hugh McIntyre and Sayid were both telling the truth:

Jimmy Kimmel Live interview: Hugh McIntyre says that the Dharma Initiative was ended in 1987.
Lost Pilot: Sayid counts Danielle's transmission as being operational for 16 years and 5 months. With the plane crashing in September 2004, that would mean that Danielle changed the transmission in April 1988, AFTER the Dharma Initiative ended according to Hugh.

Again, either Hugh could have lied or Sayid could have gotten the improptu math wrong. But it's possible both could be right.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Sacrificing 30% of the population will alter the numbers and save humanity. I like it.
