Libby?

Just finished watching season 2 again and I'm still confused with the direction they were going with the Libby character.

She claims to be a clinical psychologist but then we see that really spooky image of her in the psyche ward where Hurley was. And then we never learn anything more about her and then shes dead.

My best guess is that the writers were planning on really building up a story with her and hurleyand then found out that wasnt going to return for season 3 so they just decided to kill her off and drop the whole storyline.

Any input would be appreciated.

Jos, I'm hoping Aaron's Mum is right. We'll find out more from flashbacks. But, as you mention, since she's been killed off, we'll never know enough. Seeing her in Desmond's or Hurley's flashbacks doesn't let us delve into her mind and motives.

I'm not so sure that she had intended to not return. It think it was partly the contract issues since she was starting a new show and also the publicity around the DUI.

I'm with TP on this one --- clearly they had some direction they were going with her. I don't know if the DUI figured in to it as it had to have with Michelle Rodriguez -- her contract on another show probably jiggered it.

Yeah, I heard on some spoiler website that they couldn't find a good reason to keep her on the show - apparently her storyline wasn't relevant/interesting enough. However they said that you will figure out her whole storyline through the flashbacks of the other characters.

That being said, I just watched the special features of Season 2 and they were having this huge goodbye session for her on the last episode, which leaves me to wonder whether she will be brought back.

I'm with Warthawg. I think Libby got sacrificed so to the Michelle Rodriguez fiasco--deniability, you know? "Oh no, we didn't axe Ana Lucía because MR screwed up, we nixed both characters because they had run their course."

Of course, their deniability is as poorly written as the season, so...

Yes, they would have a hard time (discrimination suit) getting rid of Michelle and keeping Cynthia.
I also heard that LOST powers that be helped her get that part in the new show that wasn't picked up.

Interestingly, I think Libby's character may show up quite a bit in flashbacks. She may be a central character.

In addition to appearing in Desmond's and Hurley's past, she appears behind Eko at the airport during his conversation with the "miracle Malkin girl, Charlotte". I also suspect this is Libby behind Bernard at the restaurant when he proposed to Rose.

I'd like other people's opinion about this. In Further Instructions, Eddie and Locke pass by a girl on the pot farm. We only see the back of her but she is called "Lizzy", another nickname for Elizabeth, as is Libby. Does anyone else think that this could be Libby. The Lizzy girl has dark hair like the Libby from Santa Rosa.

I believe that Lizzy says hello to Locke but the voice is not clear
