Sun pushes herself into a player role. She makes deals. She lies and deceives. She gets it on with another guy. She stands up to male counterparts. She shoots an evil Other in self-defense.
Kate meanwhile doesnt even struggle against what is I know a large crowd of enemy others. She lets Sawyer do all the heavy resistance. She is angriest when confronting Sawyer about his ass-watching and is moderately confrontational re inquiring about Jack. Big deal to all that. Kate! Is your fate to have more cafe latte al fresco or do you plan to wallop someone?
Sun is right now all there and more. Let's see more toughness, now that she is probably a marked woman.

I liked Sun in this episode! Not the sleeping-with-another-man part, but how she acted around Sayid and Jin. And there was one part where she just looked plain EVIL! Like should could kill someone with only a thought. It made me laugh! And I really would like to see her stand up to Jin some more. He's starting to be a jerk again...

I'm definitely liking Sun now too. She's got that toughness, and I liked how the woman said "No you won't, I know you Sun." PPPFFFTT...apparently not. LOL
The whole episode made a point of showing us Sun is not the fragile, timid creature we thought, the shattered glass ballerina was great symbolism.
She was one of the weakest characters before, a perpetual victim, now we see she's not so sweet and capable of hurting people to protect herself. The new Sun is very interesting and complex.

Erm... some of us have been saying Sun wasn't the sweet young thing she made herself out to be for a long time.
The signs... not mentioning to Jin her dad was a gangster and allowing him to get drawn into all of that, her plan to ditch Jin at the airport would have resulted in Jin being at the bottom of Seoul harbor wearing concrete boots when her daddy found out, and her endless lurking around eavesdropping on people's conversations in season one when they thought she couldn't speak English.

I know that you were way ahead of this Homer. What we have here though is the writers catching up to you by drawing Sun out of the shade and out of the garden. In island politics, she no longer needs Kate to help her concoct a plan of poison. She no longer needs identification as a pawn of her power family. Jin, as a symbol of that family, must rely on her. But she was not just the power broker between Jin and Sayid---she was a driving force. What I ask is that she just not disappear back into the shadows and the dirt. Let's see the writers carry an active Sun to a fighting persona and/or conclusion.

I also think she is the most likely person to have given the key to the gun case to Shannon. She had been lurking around in the background when Kate told Jack about the key and what was inside the case. Plus, Kate never would have given a second thought to her being around Jack while Kate went to get him the soup (hmmm... soup again... ).
Why she would want Locke offed is a mystery though.

Gotta love that look. Sun is definaltly a strong woman. Kudos to Yunjin for the great acting.

And there was one part where she just looked plain EVIL!
Young Sun lying to her father knowing that the maid would be fired, reminded me of an old movie - "The Bad Seed". If they are on the island as punnishment for "the lies they told" (as Sun questions in season 1), then I have a feeling Sun is in for quite a ride.
In island politics, she no longer needs Kate to help her concoct a plan of poison.
Maybe she never needed Kate to help her concoct a plan. Maybe she just needed a "patsy" to take the fall if her plan went south.
eta: Maybe Sun (at the time of the raft launch) was beginning to suspect she was pregnant. Maybe she knew that (time-wise) Jin would know he couldn't be the father. She couldn't risk him leaving and returning weeks or months later to find a pregnant wife and no way for her to lie out of the situation. Maybe she was just trying to keep him around so they could do the nasty?......and thereby creating the opportunity for Jin to be the father.
I also wonder if (as a child) she broke the glass ballerina by accident or on purpose. Maybe the maid said or did something Sun didn't like and she created a situation that would get her fired....maybe.....
I wouldn't go that far, Kate didn't need any help doing her dirty little deed. I think she used Sun's dilemma, and I don't really think Sun would have thought of that herself. She's lied to cover up her deeds, but so far her dark side has not been aggressive.
She may have given the key to Shannon, she's so meek, so quiet it's easy to overlook her as a potential threat. But I can't see why she'd give it to her, unless it has something to do with a strong sense of justice, and she believed Locke caused Boones death.
Shw could be some secret agent working with some high authority. Maybe that's why the plane crashed. Some authority wants information on the others and they have sent Sun into do it. If that's the case, she's doing a great job so far.

I really want to post a comment. Hopefully, I'll be back later today.
