View Full Version : Benry's name
I'm not convinced we still know his whole name. Linus is a first name, so when he introduced himself to Jack as "Benjamin Linus" he may merely have told Jack his first and middle names. But then again, Linus could be his last name.

Seriously.
Ben Linas was a good friend of mine. Fenry Gale, you are no Ben Linas! He's a doctor in Boston with a lovely wife and (two?) kids. Anyone else know Ben?
Rock on!
I started a thread on this that got moved, but I'll say it again, I think he said "Benjamin Linus" and he still hasn't told his last name.

And I'm moving this one to Ben's forum.
Gotta love the mods for being consistent. Here we are right back in Character Purgatory just like Desmond's boat returns to the island. ;)

Threads merged.
That said, I think Linus probably is his last name, volney. My reason for thinking this is TPTB have literary/mythological/historic references scattered all over the place in LOST. Linus would be in keeping with this as Linus (Linos) is a figure from Greek mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_%28mythology%29) as the son of Apollo (ring a bell?).

I've proposed elsewhere that his last name is an homage to Linus Pauling. Google him. :)
Yeah, there's a lot of "Linus" references that could be relevant. (Linus Wiki listing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus)).
Considering the title of one of the episodes later this season, the Linus Pauling reference could very well become important.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.....the reference that is.

The Benjamin part could certainly be an homage to B.F. Skinner, considering that Sawyer was in a Skinner box.

V- I hope it makes you feel better that I logged in to check out this thread and found it easily.
The second pope meaning of Linus attracted me, because of all the catholocism on the show, but it turns out there is little info on the second pope. However, his feast day is Sept 23, day after the plane crash, the day they first attacked the tallies.

Dont forget it has bibical implications too as well, Ben -meaning son, Jamin- right hand. He is a right hand man to whoever is Mr. Big of the island.

Good one, snakey!
I sometimes work for a search company and note that there have recently been some searches for Ben Linus, by the way.

an anagram thread on Ben, although come to think of it, isn't there an official anagram thread somewhere too?
Daniel did some anagrams in the B.e.n.r.y.g.a.l.e. thread, but I was thinking more of a different name coming out of it, doesnt seem likely. I do love to read them tho, the crazier the better.

I like that Benry---Benjamin Linus---carries names pertaining to sons in both biblical and mythological contexts. If Benry takes up an instrument though, I bet that he will be plucking a line of strings leading to his demise. If the writers are serious about naming, then it may be so. Plus, I say this primarily to get a rise out of Vonne, as she devotes herself to the strangest heroes. :rolleyez:

Benjamin means son of the south, or son of the right hand.
Then Leuthen, you said Linus is Appollo's son's name.
Two names meaning son.
